I recently bought Dholakia Black, NTSU, and Neffa Ifrika. I like them and all, but I’m curious. What makes the snuffs smell like a farm?
Ever been in a country tobacco barn? That barnyard aroma is just that. Sure, it reminds one of fertilizer, but it’s also what fresh tobacco smells like. The ones you mentioned struke me as the least processed snuffs I know.

The barnyard scent is caused by microbes.

Well, NTSU is remarkably similar to cow dung, for whatever reason. Maybe it has cow shit in it for all I know? Good snuff in its own weird way though.

It all depends on the way the snuff is produced. Depending on the pH ( acidity) of the tobacco the fermentation by microorganisms will produce ammonia or not. High pH (alkalinity) favors the production of ammonia. Jaap Bes.

Another Dholakia Black fan. As I’ve said before, this does react to the nose, but guess what? Easy to “clean-up” with another couple pinches. Wanna real barn smell though? Mix HDT and Packards. After you try that, add Toque Champagne that’s when you get what I call Strip Club.
