Seeing what everyones drink preferences are. Heres my menu for tonight. 1st - My own Homebrew. Its a Double Pale Ale at 8.5% ABV with Glacier, Cascade, Liberty and Vangaurd Hops 2nd - Flying Dog Double IPA at 12% ABV 3rd - Old Chub Scotch Ale and of course plenty of Toque and WoS Snuff

M

Just iced tea for me tonight, but I wish I was at your house to sample those brews.

P

Shiner Bock

L

I’ve been thinking about digging out the cognac tonight. I haven’t had any of it in a long time.

T

Can of Stella

X

Tea. Tea must take up 90% of my beverage intake, not counting water.

T

Well my parents just got back from a Caribbean cruise for their wedding anniversary and brought me back a bottle of Guavaberry Liqueur from St. Maarten & Chairmans Reserve Rum from St. Lucia so I’m gonna try that tonight. I’ve had the rum before, my brother brought me back a bottle last year when he was there for his anniversary. Its a really good rum. But usually its a couple finger of bourbon. During the day its iced tea as well.

T

My drink of choice is Bloody Mary. Vodka brands don’t matter to me, and I was using a ready made Bloody Mary mixer, but last time I just used V8 Spicey Hot, and that was just as good. I only drink once a week, usually Fri or Sat, and I drink quite a bit.

S

Harp’s Lager tonight. But I got a 750ml of Chimay Cinq Cents Ale I’m saving for the weekend.

G

ive been sitting on a very nice barleywine which is at 12% and has been aging for nearly a year. I will be soon doing a questionaire around august and whomever wins wins a 12 pack courtesy of me of homebrew. Its delicous I promise, also please remember my forum tag as in a year I will be out west in the USA and will soon open my own brew-pub here in the south-east and you all would be the first to sample my product

M

where in the southeast?

G

IN West Central Goergia. The market for such business is in the west but its slowly creeping east. This my only chance to jump on a fad thats just really catching on. Out west the beer styles are ground breaking in their design but here in the east its kinda an unexploited market.

I only drink once a week, usually Fri or Sat, and I drink quite a bit. Blasphemer! Get some proper vodka , let’s say Smirnoff/Wyborowa/Finlandia ,tomato juice , Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce. Then your sins may be cleansed . And just out of curiosity , socially speaking around where you live , how much drink is “a little” , “getting tipsy” , and “really drunk”. Also what quantities do the local bars serve ( how much in a mug / shot). I’m not drinking anything tonight , need a sharp mind this whole month. No exceptions.

L

I ended up not having any cognac tonight. Oh well, maybe another day.

X

I don’t know, Grim. In the mid ninties I could throw a stone in any direction and hit a brew pub or a microbrewery. That’s just here in tiny Delaware. Quite a few more in the mid-atlantic region too. New England had even more! I took a bicycle tour after college and traveled up the coast and into Canada. We stopped at every darn one of those things! Now sadly, we’ve lost most of the ones we had here. I think we have 2 or 3 brewpubs left in the state, and 2 microbrews. SE Pennsylvania has a world class one not far from here, Victory. I do look forward to trying your own brews, though, and I wish you luck with your pub. It has long since caught on around here, and this is definatley the East Coast.

P

I start my day with coffee and that’s the last drink before I go to bed. I’m addicted to alcohol and quit drinking on the 24th of December 1993 So for the last 15years 4 months and 28 days I did not touch the stuff. I have nothing against anyone who likes a drink because it’s me who have a problem, not other people. My closest, very good friend, who is more like a brother to me than a friend, enjoys some wine with his food, always have some when we eat together. No big issue for me. So, I bid you all happy drinking! But please don’t drink while you are driving. Stop at the roadside, finish your drink, and then continue. You might spill some of your drink if you drink while driving and dry cleaning is expensive these days.

T

LOL Pieter!

T

My best buddy, who passed on I guess 9 yrs ago, at under 40, was a very bad alcoholic, and was fall down drunk almost every day. He was the greatest guy ever, but could also be a total sob drunk. But we met at a job, and our interest at the time was drinking. We also later became great friends and shared many interests and adventures. He would have really taken to snuff too, if we had known about it then. But yeah, alcohol is what did him in, I believe. Now I’ll get really drunk, but only on the weekend and I don’t have to work the next day, and I don’t drive at all if I have drank. I am usually home, or at one of my friends home, with plans of either a non-drinker driving me home, or a couch to sleep on. So, some people just should not drink at all. I have known quite a few, to where if it didn’t kill them, it ruined their lives. I have used Tobasco and Worchestershire in my Bloody Marys. But I am just not sold on the “quality” vodka thing, since I saw this TV show that substituted cheap vodka in some ritzy place and no one could tell the difference.

M

I’m basically a beer drinker. For many years I would drink to get drunk, as often as could afford it. About 5 years ago I started limiting myself, to once per week, every Saturday. I would always go to the same beach front tiki bar, where every one knew me and my nickname was “Saturday Mark.” I would take the bus there and my bartender buddy would always make sure I got into a familiar cab and even knew my address to tell the cab driver. As i got older it started taking me longer to recover and I started getting tired off feeling like crap for two or three days. Luckily I was always a happy or VERY quiet drunk. I never got got nasty or into trouble, I mostly just got incoherent. Now I’m basically a “vacation drunk.” I plan 3 or 4 vacations a year where I get a room in a resort with a cool tiki bar and I basically drink almost each day. I always drink Miller Light! Sorry if this is TMI, but it kind off feels good “sharing”

J

Most people can only tell water or at most beer from “blah alcohol”. Ritzy places are also no place to test vodka. Try substituting the vodka in a bar here , you’ll get lynched the second your first drink is served. As someone coming from Easter Europe i can reassure you there’s quite a difference.I drink my vodka straight , sipping. Shots are for special occasions such as getting warmed up for the next 5 shots :). I’ll tell what vodka a friend is drinking just by smelling the glass. I can even tell it apart in a Blood Mary if i taste it , provided there’s not too much pepper and Tabasco in there. Bad (not necessarily cheap) vodka just tastes and smells bad and has you puking and feeling horrible the next day. I’m not saying sell your liver for a bottle , but have some respect for yourself and your health. The brands i listed are in no way expensive , they’re just the good kind. I know more expensive “vodka” that is 10 times crappier , and “rye spirit” that’s better than that more expensive “Vodka”. I only drink straight spirits. Beer If there are no distilled drinks. Wine / champagne and other drinks i will only taste.

C

If you drink liquor straight, you can taste the difference.

C

I’m thinking of having a Hoefen Brau Muenchen tonight while I watch the Orlando - Cleveland game.

J

Screw this abstinence nonsense , I’m hitting my plum moonshine stash as of now. (that is: palinca , 60% ABV). I study better on a fuzzy mind anyway.

W

Tonight when I go to the pub I shall have a pint of Chestnut Mild, followed by 7 or 8 bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale. Tommorrow night I shall be on Old Rosy cider which is something like 8.4% so 6 pints of that I shall be anybodys lol. Stefan

C

I’m suddenly craving some Strongbow.

S

I’ll be in my local drinking Old Empire Ale with an abv of 5.7% and of cause sum snuff.

C

Here’s a silly question for you across the pond: What temperature is your beer served at?

S

Now so silly, most of the young like larger served cold. I like a hand pulled beer around room temperature. No prizes for guessing I’m old lol! The larger is like your light beers.

C

Just about everything around here is served ice cold (the way I like it). However, there are a few pubs in town that now serve hand pulled beer (at a higher price).

G

Im drinking a 1661 beer right now… well its okay but not much more.

A

English beer, real ale, call it what you will, is seved at cellar temperature, which when all pubs used hand cranked pumps not forced through a cooling jacket, obviously varied, but it was cooler than room temperature as it would be coming from an unheated storage cellar. Nowadays you see even real ale chilled, my personal taste is for cool beer - not warm or chilled. With lagers, chilled. But the days of everyone drinking beer at the same temp over here are in the past.

S

The larger if not served cold taste awful. Our real beer if served cold looses it’s taste.

C

I’ve been spoiled with bars serving beer at near freezing temp. IMHO, there is nothing better than a near frozen beer when it’s 100F+ outside.

A

Loses its appeal in a country that has two days summer a year.

C

Haha, so true! We have too many days of summer!

S

Here’s a strange one. In my younger days when I first started drinking, Guinness was always served warm, or at room temperature. Then the Guinness company had a go marketing for the younger drinkers and pubs got coolers added to their pumps, then later two pumps chilled and extra chilled. I’m looking at a empty can right now as I type in the garden on my laptop, even on the can it says “Serve Chilled”!

Z

Tommyknocker Pick Axe…

S

Homemade sloe wine followed by a pint of ale from the brewery I work at (in the UK). Cold serving temperatures are ideal for lagers, but 13 degrees C or cellar temperature is perfect for English ale. When I stayed in New England in 1995, there were loads of good microbrewery ales (more than in Old England!), and loads of Stouts. Is Catamount brewery still going? I had a brewery tour around there (White River Junction Vermont?) and many fine evenings in Gritty McDuffs in Portland (Maine) sampling their excellent beers…

X

@ sandy, I’m pretty sure Catamount is still in business. I might have an empty bottle around here from there. I was in Gritty McDuffs in Portland once too. Their claim to fame was the most beers on tap in the state of Maine. I tried to sample them all one night, but didn’t get very far. Cellar temperature is the way to go! That’s about 40-50 degrees F , so just a bit warmer than the fridge, but quite a bit cooler than the room. Ask a chef, they will tell you that cold masks subtle flavors. So if you make crappy beer, of course you sell/serve it cold, your customers will never know the difference. New England does indeed have quite a few great micro brews! Theres a good few around here too. I haven’t drunk a mass produced American beer in years. I guess I’m a bit of a beer snob. Prohibition destroyed our beer culture. Only the big companies were able to survive it, and they all make crap beer. Thanks to a generation of entrepenuers our beer culture is making a recovery. American beer is no longer the laughing stock of the western world.

G

Isnt it a shame that for some reason Budweiser still thinks its the best beer in America??? LMAO, thats a joke. I am not going to sa yI do not buy cheap lager but I will at times because good beer which can be as high as 22 bucks a 4-pack isnt something I can afford every day. Plus most of the time im drinking my homebrews or something similar to them but they dont last long either as I give them out as gifts just to try and get my name known as a maker of good beer. Anyways when I drink cheap its usually PBR ( Pabst Blue Ribbon ) At the moment im drinking McSorleys Irish Black Lager. Cheers!!

M

Water for me tonight. I wish I had a beer in the house. Sometimes a drink before bed will help me get to sleep. I have to wake up and be at work in less than five hours and I’m wide awake Its interesting, I read a similar thread in another forum recently and someone posted the results from I guess an international beer competition and US brewers won the gold in nearly every category often taking 2nd and 3rd place as well. There is plenty of good beer in the US if you don’t mind paying 8-10 bucks for a 6 pack or traveling to a microbrewery. I just wish there were more good beers in the 5-6 dollar per 6 pack range.

B

Some really good tea and what ever you’re buying!!! It’s my b-day today.

T

Tonight might be Bloody Mary night. My band mate is coming over, I think, and we wanna get 3 new songs done. After about 6 double shot Bloody Marys though, my playing and vocals arn’t as tight. But it’s still fun.

C

I had 3 beers last night while watching the game. Gave me a headache. I’m getting old.

T

Well, I’m 42, and in my 20’s and even in my teens, I could slam beers non-stop all night. It is age, I believe, and not just physical, but just the passing of time, one isn’t the same person as when in one’s younger days. I find that when me and my high school buddy get together, it’s more often an attempt to relive the old times, which doesn’t happen much. Maybe 5 or 6 beers, and we are done, and taking a nap. But I have found for me, that I have had to switch off of beer to a mixed drink to even good a good drunk/buzz goin’ that will withstand more than a couple of glasses. So my drink of choice lately is Bloody Mary, standard size glass with 2 shots vodka, ice, currently V8, it’s rather low-carb, doesn’t bloat me, and I get a good effect.

A

I’m 45 and the recovery period for me these days is basically a day wasted if I go over the top. I like the odd beer but I’ve recently got into strong cider which I like for a long cool drink - Strongbow super, Normandy cider or Cornish Scrumpy being the favourites. I also go for a shot of Scotch - straight up, no rocks - or Vodka. I went to Poland on a drinking trip a couple of years ago and they have vodka menus in the bars, incredible, white, brown, even with flecks of gold in there. Just finished a bunch of early shifts getting up at 4, so will be relaxing with a nice cold cider and a couple of shots tonight, plus some WoS rose to go with it.

M

I’m drinking some Killians Irish Red. Not my favorite beer by any means but I let it warm up some and the flavor really comes out. I’m enjoying it this evening.

G

Sweetwater 420… Great Pale Ale made here in my own backyard, Atlanta Ga. Great Thing about this brewery is that they have some clever Names and slogans on their Beer The following are on every bottle of beer Sweetwater 420 - what time is? Sweetwater GA. Brown - Smoother than a Bill Clinton Appology Sweeterwater IPA - The beer youve been practicing for Sweetwater Donkey Punch - Youll Know it when it hits you on the back of the head, Those are a few but have best slogans. Looks like its Sweetwater 420 Tonight and several pinches of Toque Original

T

I got drunk as heck last night. The bloody marys went down like water. At the point where I could not even drink my last drink, I was seeing double. It was also 3 am. My band mate/buddy came over, and we worked on a couple of new songs for the coming album, didn’t get much done, but did get something done, and I sometimes just ain’t in the making music mode, so we didn’t record anything, but we have a recording session planned next weekend. But sometimes alcohol just puts me to sleep, gives me drunken energy, or more of s stupor, and I think last night was more of a stupor. Anyway, we had the snuff all out, and he loved the Wilsons White Snuff. I dumped some into an empty pill bottle for myself and gave him the tin. Then we watched an IFD/Lai Ninja movie.

J

tonight i’m on jack and coke, earlier i had a screwdriver just cus it sounded good but now i’m back the the jd

G

Whew… I got way too drunk last night… Beer Pong/ Flip Cup and hell other games as well. Got so drunk I woke up and had that whole bad " How did I get home? " Tonight Its nothing… : ( but tomorrow probably gonna pick up some good bourbon to sip on and another 4 pack of FLying Dog Double Pale Ale. Oh, something sad did occur last night. I finished off my Johnny Walker Blue Lable ive been secretly hording to myself but its gone. : ( And it will be forever until the wife lets me spend 400 bucks on alcohol again

J

Finished off a bottle of Jägermeister with a friend yesterday , i should get more , that stuff is good. Goes along really well with Toque Absinthe.

J

same thing as last night

J

Pretty good, you? i saw you pop up on the chat for a moment but then you left stop in and chat there was 8 of us on tonight.

J

Taking sips out of my cute little 375ml bottle of Knob Creek.

G

Knob Creek is good. I like Bookers Bourbon though. Thats good S***

J

Prolly just a few Bud Lights tonight.

S

Trappistes Rochefort 10 Tripel Karmeliet Tuborg Pilsner Coca Cola Probably even in that order … I may leave out the pilsner.

G

Coors Light…lol Evan Williams Vintage 1996 Bourbon… nothing like a damn good bourbon

S

I may have a drop or two of El Dorado Rum (12 year) - http://www.demrum.com/rums/el12yr.cfm - absolutely wonderful stuff.

N

home made icewine… with a nice pinch of homemade amoretto snuff… keepit sweet!

G

Nice, havent had Newcastle in awhile but nothing is better than sweet tea…lol Drinking some PBR and Bookers Bourbon. Note: Bookers is a nice bourbon at 127 proof, to be such high alcohol for a bourbon its incredibly smooth. Nice treat

D

…a good greek ouzo and some Coke tonight.

A

I can go one better than Ouzo, someone gave me a very old bottle of Polish Absinthe. It has the Ouzo taste but packs a kick like a pissed off mule - one is the absolute limit!

J

I know what you mean. Last time i had any good absinthe around i went to sleep , woke up , and barely started getting sober halfway though the day. It’s basically a bottled sledgehammer.

E

Tonight I’ll be in the pub drinking Grolsch and Bushmills Irish Whiskey. I also have a fine Cuban cigar to smoke to celebrate the birth this morning of our latest granddaughter in Truro Hospital, Cornwall. Mother and baby both doing fine.

A

Congratulations Tony and very best wishes to Mum and baby!!

E

Thanks. I’ll pass that on.

S

I finished off my Virginia Lightning corn whiskey. That is some damn fine sippin whiskey. I’ll need to pick something up on the way home. Thinking of bourbon this time…

S

Sparkling Wyndham Estate Bin 555 Red Shiraz for tonight to celebrate the purchase of my first house.

T

I’m on my second Steel Reserve and sittin in chat alone.

S

Mead, mead, and more mead! (for the holiday) Wassail!

T

I’m going to raise a glass of Jamaican white rum to the memory of my dad tonight.

X

What holiday, slobandtom? I have some Bunratty Mead in the cellar. I need to break it out soon.

S

@Xander: Midsummer! Oh, btw–Bunratty, not real mead. If you look closely, in the same colour as the pattern on the front of the bottle, cleverly hidden, are the words “white wine flavoured with honey” or something to that effect. Proper mead is just fermented honey, not wine flavoured with honey. What always got me is that they usually charge more for a bottle of Bunratty than they charge for a bottle of decent mead!

X

Yes, I knew it was wine. I had proper mead a one or twice, but its kind of syrupy for me. Bunratty is syrupy enough. Mead is also kind of hard to find. I guess you just have to teach yourself to sip it slowly. I am a big honey lover, I suppose I could make my own if I had a mind to. Why call it midsummer? Summer just began, surely it cannot be halfway through already? I call it the summer solstice. I suppose mead is the appropriate drink for this event, though. Surely Lughnasa is the midsummer festival, August 1st being the approximate mid point between the summer solstice and the autumnal equinox? Well I hope you enjoyed it anyway!

T

You want syrupy try the Sam Adams Triple Bock that is brewed with maple syrup. Its a warm sipping beer you drink from a snifter. Its pretty good.

X

I had that stuff at Sam Adams pub in Boston. It was served from a wooden cask behind the bar. Wow! It was challenging to drink. They only brew it in very small quantities. I think it was 17% alcohol. They served it in a tiny glass. Something like a snifter, I think. This was about 15 years ago now though, the memory fogs…

G

I tried brewing real mead once and its a very slow and boring process and the fermentation can get stuck at times and then POW! 6 months wasted and time to start over, and thats just the brewing process. Mead can either be a dry mead, usually made with champagne yeast or sweet. I personally dont care for it but its good for what it is. I much prefer a good homebrewed beer. Now sam adams holds the record, last I checked, for a beer that was 27% alcohol. Its not carbonated and is thick. I personally dont like any of their special super high gravity beers because i was always tought beer was suppose to be carbonated, lol, so it holds no place for me. But I do love good beers such as an IPA or Double Pale Ale or Double IPA. mmmmmm, beer

S

@xander LOL, the 21st as the beginning of summer is a modern idea, as is the division into four equal-length seasons. It used to be that “Spring” was done once things were done springing, and summer was reckoned to have begun much earlier than we reckon it nowadays. Glad you didn’t get snowed by the Bubratty label, I’ve had a couple friends buy it who thought they were getting mead. Speaking of high-alcohol, syrupy brews, any other fans of Samichlaus here?

X

more like brandy, I thought

G

Natural Ice, lol, yuck , chased it down with some evan williams 10 yr ( Barrelled in 99 ) single barrell. The nhad some Abita IPA

G

Coors Light and some Guiness. The guiness stole the night of course… eh, im probably just gonna get drunk tonight.

S

I think it’s gonna be bourbon.

T

Got a case of Steel Reserve ready. Might drink tonight… but I am so tired feeling right now, I don’t know.

N

Loading my nose with toque original and a “little” of this…

V

Recently I went to Rethymno, Crete, and I got some local white wine (and some Raki!!) Tonight I will be enjoying a chilled, Cretan white wine and some Best SP :o)

S

If you haven’t tried this rum, you are missing out. I’m going to enjoy my evening with a few glasses of this 12 year El Dorado.

S

Gin and tonic and some Argentinian red wine

T

Well, I think tonight is the Steel Reserve night, my buddy and band mate is comin’ over, last I heard, and we are gonna wrap up our last song for the new CD, and drink some beer, and sniff some snuff(and he will smoke too).

F

probably cider and lots of it as its saturday and no work tomorrow hooray!!!

M

Fourth of July, gotta be ICE COLD BEER!

F

three pints of magners cider, 1 can of olde english so far and three snuffs of poschl raspberry and about five of mcchrystals lemon so far, yeehaaa!!!

K

buckfast tonic wine (i know its a bit of a tramp’s drink but i like it!) maybe some jagermiester

T

I am thinking some Bloody Mary tonight…

G

I had 3 really great beers to night (König Pilsner) and one for my wannabe home town (Gaffel Kölsch) some white wine while playing cards. Great evening And I tried that el dorado rum, its really great. Ill have one right now.

A

Strongbow.

F

today, some magners irish cider.

W

Smirnoff Vodka and Coke for me tonight, along with some Chestnut Mild and a couple of Black Russians thrown in for good measure. Been a good night so far. Stefan

S

Jagermeister and Coke. I think SG’s C.C.C. might go well with it…

B

Bishops Finger (72 F) in a tall fluted glass. with a hefty pinch of Spanish Gem.

W

I’m going to be drinking sod all till Friday as the pub is shut. The landlord has gone on holiday and is too tight to pay anybody to look after the pub for him lol. Stefan

B

What a sad day

G

Black coffee. That, plus a bit of pu erh, is about the strongest stuff I can get for now.

T

I think I might break open the bottle of Glenmorangie ’ The Lasanta’ single malt that I got for my birthday. Cheers!

B

Toffeenose, you lucky duck. I’m uber-jealous.

P

Coffee, coffee and coffee.

W

Seen as the pub is shut I might break open my bottle of Jim Beam, trouble is I’ve got to make it last till Friday lol. Stefan

S

I feel like shooting some tequila. Lookout.

M

I’ve got a couple of choices. Either some Magnolia Oolong and a a floral Snuff accompanied by relaxing music, or my “to hell with it, plan B”: Guinness and Garrett. btw, Debbie, if you feel like sharing a wee dram of that, let me see if this shot glass can go through my monitor, through the interweb…"

L

Jagermeister shots in between glasses of a nice Cabernet that I have been saving. Of course, I have been taking copious amounts of Toque snuff mixed with Rooster - probably 30% Rooster and the rest an even mix of Toque Espresso, Chocolate, and Vanilla. Excellent combo!

J

A pot of coffee and a pinch o’ Scotch…

K

glenmorangie to go with my toque whiskey and honey

G

Remy martin. What an evening. Perfect. And of course SPextra in my nose. And a good cigar. Did I mention perfect?

T

I’m drinking Miller High Life right now.

L

@tom502 I am so sorry to hear that…

Z

Harp Lager

M

Wanted a Guinness, but got stuck with what they had on the shelf. Samuel Adams Octoberfest. Not complaining too much. It’s quite good.

W

It’s going to be either a nice glass of Spanish red wine, or vodka on the rocks…have to look at the snuffbox to decide which I would prefer to accompany those then I’ll make my decision…

W

Rioja and Toque Bourbon it is! heh heh.

C

Sam Adams makes a good beer. One of my favorites. Their White Ale is second to none.

M

@cstokes It was quite a surprise. Last Samuel Adams I tried was their Scotch Ale, which didn’t impress me. McEwan’s has always been the standard bearer. Otoh, a brewer local to me makes one that’s downright fantastic. Mogollon. It only has limited distribution, but a quick trip across the border and there’s the brewery/pub. It’ll be the remaining three bottles of Octoberfest after work. Waiting for the beer to warm up a little from fridge temperature will be the most painful hour I face today…Hopefully.

S

Virginia Lightning corn whiskey. Ever try it? It’s like bourbon pre-barrel, I’m guessing. Crystal clear color. 100 proof. I can feel the heat going down. Actually pretty smooth. sip sip

C

@sprangalang: Does the VLCW come in a mason jar? There is a corn whiskey at ABC’s down here that is sold in a mason jar. I’ve been wanting to try it for ages.

O

Bevo il vino stasera!

S

Cstokes, No it’s a regular 750ml bottle: I get it at Binny’s. CHeerS!

M

On John Snuffhead’s suggestion, it’s a cup of Twining’s Lady Grey. Quite good, this one. Learning to appreciate the subtleties of it.

G

Slivovitz - been a hell of a week in what has been one of the worst months since the last one. Ahh, good old slivo! Cure for as many ailments as it causes.

M

@Guanxi Slivovitz is Eastern Europe’s answer to Aguardiente! Like swallowing lighter fluid…but nice after the sixth or seventh one.

G

@snuffypants Yes, and it’s common knowledge that the best slivo is denser than the regular stuff; consequently, the REALLY GOOD slivo’s always at the bottom of the bottle.

L

I have a bottle of Slivovitz somewhere around here. Quite good stuff.

G

well for me tonight… probably to much. Ill start with some Vodka&Tonics at home to get me in the mood and then Ill check out the youth culture festival. Its Beer there then. Well got to celebrate the beginning of the weekend. E: Ok Ill throw in a Slivowitz for you

G

Well, back to the slivo this time, but I’m drinking something my great-grandmother used to have. It’s worth trying. A cup of especially strong black tea (as you’d get from using a samovar) chilled with a bit of ice and about two teaspoons of sugar, with a slug of slivovitz in it. I imagine it would chase away the chill in colder weather, but in this heat we’ve been having, it’s best cold. I can see why she used to drink it this way - it improves the tea immeasurably, and the acidity of the strong tea brings out the fruit of the slivo quite nicely. Add a pinch of maccoboy, and it’s really quite a pleasant evening. Na zdrovye!

J

Myers’s rum, original dark. I love rum.

J

Aiming to shoot down a bottle of Olmeca Gold tequila today. I usually drink it without salt as it tastes too good alone , I’ll probably get a lemon just for the kicks. @Guanxi: since you suggested that , and i just happen to have a cup of black tea in front of me and some palinca left (basically slivo) i’m going to have to try that right now. Cheers!

G

@Jack Magyar, are you? (My slivo’s Zwack brand, just like Granny’s. She’d never touch anything but Zwack.)

M

Out of cash at the end of the week, so I’m drinking Old English 800. It’s gag-worthy crap, but I was more interested in getting drunk than enjoying the flavour this time 'round. Lol!

W

Sea Dog - Blueberry Wheat Beer…w/ Toque Blueberry, of course.

R

Well i downed a few bottles of Karlovacko, was a nice meeting today with my mates ,we just kinda had an aftermath of yesterdays party, gotta trashed pretty hard. Me and my other 2 mates drank the rest of the remaining beer just that it doesn’t get bad.

J

@Guanxi: I tried your suggestion and it was excellent! Thanks! I don’t know how i haven’t tried that up until now , as I’ve always got the ingredients on hand. I’m Romanian. but your guess was pretty close. We’ve got just as much of habit of making and drinking the stuff as they do. Though i suspect i was supposed to call it horinca/tuica , since the EU decided you can’t call it palinca if it’s not made in Hungary. The particular kind I currently have was made up north in Maramures , where basically all they ever grow is plums for horinca :). It’s first rate stuff even though it’s unbranded. I’ve never had any Zwack to tell you exactly how it compares I’m pretty sure it’s close since we’ve shared the drink with Magyars for so long. (and there’s a pretty large number of them living in that region as well). Later on after the wonderful cup of tea I followed up with my plan to empty a bottle of Tequila with a friend and so i did , even though i couldn’t find any Olmeca Gold and had to settle for the silver. Drank half of it with lemons slices and the other with cinnamon and orange slices. Tasty tasty drink it is indeed and the cinnamon really gives it a special twist. I ended the session with another two shots of Finlandia as the almost empty bottle was staring us in the eyes and had to be swiftly dealt with.

A

A chilled white and a couple of my beloved Strongbows in the garden tonight.

M

@snuffster You could mix the two for some ridiculously potent Snake Bites! j/k I would not recommend torturing Cider in that fashion Mine will be whatever is on sale at the package liquor/off licence/booze emporium.

A

I love snake bite. Im almost (but not quite) ashamed to say my favourite is cider and special brew. What a confession!

L

Glenlivet single malt scotch, neat. “Washing” it down with some Toque Whiskey & Honey. Fantastic!

J

Budweiser…

W

Beck’s

J

Bud light right now, just one…or two.

V

Will be visiting a friend for his birthday, and the menu will consist of litres and litres of Danish Pilsner :o) chilled of course. But in not the awful frosted glasses you get “over there” he he he :o) it totally kills the beer…

M

@Viking Mass market beers in the States, like Budweiser, et al, are served that cold so the drinker doesn’t have to taste it!

R

Huge amounts of beer

J

Just cracked open a bottle of Finlandia , this won’t end well :).

N

sipping on stella until the “inlaws” get here. cabernet sauvignon with ribs tonight. then after they leave I may have 1 or 2 martini’s

G

Slivo & cold sweet tea, again tonight. Hard to beat a Balkan blitzer like that.

G

Asbach Uralt, funny it gets better with every sip.

J

Hehehe, my old man had a bottle of Asbach Uralt in the cabinet…I was never sure if he drank it to enjoy it, or as some self-imposed form of penance…

C

@bigblue: I’m exactly the same way. And when I drink ANY beer, it has to be ice cold!

J

For some reason the chilly weather around here has me craving Wild Turkey cut with a little coca cola can’t wait.

X

You’re not crazy, you just don’t like to taste your beer, which is completely understandable if you drink any of the mass marketed beers. Buy good beer and you’ll like them cool, but not cold.

J

Like Guinness, the Beer that Drinks Like a Meal.

X

Its not just for breakfast anymore!

M

I drink Ale or even a few craft brewed Americans at room temperature. Good Lager, just a little cooler, but not by much. Something like Bud or PBR I’ll stick in the freezer, if the need arises.

S

Earlier today I had some “Guinness Punch”. Guinness, Nourishment (which is a milk drink), and a mixture of spices. It was delicious!

M

@Spam Sounds as if that would taste like a Mocha Latte. Now that they’ve found Guinness has more nutritive content than most other brews, I wonder if they’ll ever re-adopt one of their old advertising slogans. “Guinness Is Good For You”. I’m stuck with my cheap tipple for now. Olde English 800. Hate the stuff, but it’s 7.9% Did I also mention that it’s cheap…Ok I did. Nevermind. --Edit-- I should add a Guinness drink recipe. Take a huge fluted Pils or Irish Coffee glass. Fill part-ways up with chilled French or Italian roast Coffee. Now make a cup or two of Droste’s Cocoa made according to package directions. Pour a few dashes on top of the Coffee. Now muddle it around a bit. You can also add a little Bailey’s or Vodka to increase the Alcohol content. Fill the rest of the glass with Guinness. Add whipped cream and a few semi sweet dark Chocolate shavings on top. It’s a great drink to impress the Ladies, or for guys to drink in secret.

T

A couple of glasses of Ancient Age bourbon. Not top shelf stuff by any means, but not bad on the rocks.

T

Capping off the evening with a glass of Weller Antique.

Z

Beck’s Oktoberfest bier

S

I got my Balkan 176° in the mail today, so I’ll be cracking that open. Probably watch a movie or two, and go pester people around the building to see if anyone feels like joining in with me.

M

Do you drink that straight up Shkitohno or with a mixer? Strait up I am guessing. I have a nice big glass of Chardonney, but have a drop of Chivas left so will probably have some of that later.

M

@shikitohno I wish I lived in your building.

O

Old English 40oz. Only thing I can get my hands on this late in the night without making a drive. Best part is . . . it’s union made =)

M

@orion Gotta’ love that 8 ball! Cheapest non insta-puke buzz on the shelf.

S

I had one shot straight up, and it nearly took my head off. For the rest of the night I just mixed it in with Sprite (it was all I had on hand, I prefer to mix vodka with some Ceres Pomegranate-Lime juice). Two more drinks, and I’d had quite enough. It’s strong, but it does actually taste pretty good.

S

Having a Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale tonight. Apparently, it’s Michelob’s seasonal offering. Smells good so far. Damn, it’s actually pretty tastey. Michelob’s been surprising me lately. I had Shock Top, which wasn’t bad, and now this one’s okay. I probably won’t get it again (need to get some Pumpkinhead, after all), but it’s not that bad.

J

Hieniken…doesn’t mean I like it. There is always party leftovers around here. Free beer always tastes just fine.

X

I have a giant novelty bottle of Heiniken sitting in my cellar. Its been there about 3 years. I don’t like it either, but yeah it was free The only problem is I could never finish it alone, and I’m not really a social butterfly. My cousin was over once and drank its equivalant (and then some) of normal Hieneken bottles. She kept refusing the big one for some reason.

S

Oh, last night got rough. Went over to my friend’s with the beer, we wound up drinking my vodka, and his whiskey. I’ve been sleeping for hours now, and I’ve just now got the spins.

T

I had a beer last night I’d never had before, or heard of, called Sparks. It was kinda good. Tasted like carbonated Tang. Went down too easy.

J

Coffee pot just finished! Time to pour a big mug and start nosing around in my snuff stash…

S

It’ll be John Smiths smooth flow, or Marston’s Pedigree at the pub tonight.

M

@spam Marston’s is Snuffhead’s tipple as well, but I think his preferred one is Old Empire. I’m settling down right now with yet another abominable Old English “8 Ball”. This is miserable stuff, but I’m not drinking it for the flavour.

S

Knob Creek again. I have never been a big fan of straight bourbon, as I generally prefer scotch if I’m gonna drink whisky, but this is the 2nd bottle of this stuff I have bought and it has totally given me an appreciation of bourbon.

S

@Mr_Snuffypants, I thought someone from here drunk Marston’s. Unfortunately they were out of it so I had to drink Whitbread’s Trophy, which is nice enough.

G

a couple of beers with my mate sitting at the riverside. Summer is nearly over, have to enjoy it while it lasts…

M

Summer sort of packed up and ran off, leaving quite a mess behind, here. I’m now hoping for a nice Autumnal snifter of Calvados.

T

Picked up a 6-pack of Steam Anchor Liberty Ale on my way home, Going to have some with my venison roast I have cooking for dinner.

J

I’m currently 3/4 on the way to finishing a bottle of wine, nothing fancy though. I usually avoid wine , but there’s nothing left and staying sober ain’t an option right now :).

S

Craft brewed porter from a little local brewery in Phoenix called “old world brewery”

V

About 6 litres of chilled (NOT frosted) Heineken Lager! I usually prefer Danish Pilsner, but sometimes I really like European beer. And with the Heineken goes Navy Sweet Scotch - so sad I never discovered the American snuffs, while actually living there!!! But better late than never :o) Cheers!

M

The awful “8 Ball” again. Bought two 4 packs yesterday. Plowed through the first yesterday evening. I learned not to sniff Gletscher with it. Made the Beer taste like cough syrup… (may be an improvement, now that I mull it over…)

M

I work a partial shift, 1700 to 2100, and work tomorrow, so another alcohol free evening! Definitely going to brew up some tea, though.

A

Just done a bottle of red, haven’t the faintest idea who made it!

S

A primitive hot rum toddy, delicious.

P

Glenlivet 15 yr old single malt. It appears thus far that Tom Buck is pairing rather nicely with it.

J

Primitive (old school) drinks are da bomb.

S

There was no lemon about so I threw in some lime cordial, it was pretty good.

M

@spam You could have added ice to the Rum & Lime cordial and enjoyed some primitive Daiquiris!

S

I think I might give that a go now! I’ve got a feeling it might go well with Toque Pomegranate or Blueberry, something a bit tart.

C

Bought the Samuel Adams Holiday pack tonight. Just finished a Coastal Wheat, about to indulge in a Cranberry Lambic.

B

Christian Moerlein ‘Friend of an Irishman’ stout I’ve been saving for today

G

a bit of the black stuff and cheap bourbon

F

had a headache all day, partly due to strongbow last night and too much wilsons irish toast 22 but now on the strongbow again.

K

W

I shall be on Youngers Best Bitter tonight at the bargain price of £2 a pint at the Greyhound Inn, Danesmoor, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. If anybody knows it or wants to for that matter whisper me for a sat nav postcode. A great little boozer proper friendly place where everybody knows your name. Stefan

T

If my bandmate comes over tonight, so we can finish the songs for the next album, I’ll be drinking Steel Reserve and Natual Ice.

G

white wine with girlfriend and then later many many bottles of Bitburger with the mates, good evening.

S

Gonna have a Pabst Blue Ribbon or two tonight. Great with dinner. Heh.

K

St. George Absinthe. This truly is a world class absinthe. If you’ve ever had the brandy made by the St. George distillery in Alameda, California, you know it is to die for. Now they are distilling the best absinthe on the North American continent.

L

Johnny Walker Black label - neat - with a nose of Toque Whisky and Honey

P

Vodka and Coca Cola over ice, with a nose full of Toque Vanilla. Now that’s tasty.

T

My band buddy came over last night and we slammed Coors Light, Natural Ice, and Steel Reserve. We wrote the last song for the next album, inspired by the movie Grey Gardens.

J

Johnny Walker Red Label , also neat , a bit too much of it.

C

@Goldenboy: Bit is some good pils. There is only 1 store in town that sells it bottled, but a few restaurants that sell it on tap. Bitte ein Bit!

G

yes its good, bought 20 bottles of it this saturday and also 20 bottles Warsteiner, now I can figure out which I prefer

C

Mmmmmmmmmmm… Warsteiner. I’d take Bit, but that’s only because it’s so hard to find around here. Either way it’s a good choice.

M

a couple dark ales. very rich and flavorful

T

Aberlour 12 year old scotch

N

Sipping a nice light and crisp home brewed blueberry ale. High etoh 7-8% it’s been sitting bottled over 1 year to mellow . “Very nice” Any other home brewers here ?

B

I’ve had more success with homemade wine, but I enjoy DRINKING homebrew–

S

According to the VA I’m a binge alcoholic so I’m not supposed to drink. With that said, I’m enjoying some Benchmark Old No. 9 bourbon with some Rooster.

J

@spyro , what does it take to be a so called binge alcoholic ? And where do i get my badge ?

T

I’ve always thought a binge drinker is one who drinks every so often, or once in a while, and then they do, they do to excess. If this right, this is how I drink. I find a weekend with a buddy, and we drink to excess. The other days I don’t drink at all.

M

I just had one off those weekends! I get a hotel room within walking distance to a cool tiki bar on the beach. The funny thing is it’s only about 3 miles from my house. I drank more than I can even remember, spent a small fortune. Now I probably won’t drink again for 2 or 3 months. I would probably do it more often, I just can’t get the time off.

S

Well, I’ve always had European drinking habits but when my second wife cheated on me and left me after maxing out all of the credit cards and cleaning out the savings I found myself facing two DWI charges. Not a good thing for a retired cop trying to switch careers. The State of Texas stamps you as a problem drinker with two DWIs, it doesn’t matter what circumstances are involved. And if you step into an AA meeting you are either an alcoholic or in denial, not much room for debate. To be honest, I have overdone it with the alcohol and it has caused trouble in my life. I don’t drink every day, get mad cravings or the shakes, or wake up in gutters. However, there are times when I start drinking and over do it. Not every time, but once is enough to make it a serious concern. I guess this is how I define my binge drinking. The term alcoholic is very broad and interchangeable depending on who you talk to. Most lab monkeys learn after the first shock or two but I’ve had to have my butt kicked several times to learn that I have to really tread carefully when I play with the fire water. I don’t take it as lightly as I used to.

B

Alchool is a pretty serious drug. Most likely one to say make you say I did what, why the *@&% did I do that. Or you change what to who and that to them works about the same. Having said that I think it’s important to know yourselve your tendencies and your limits makes more sense to me then painting it with broad brush strokes that make everyone into powerless lushes or near teatollers (hope I spelled that right). Reminds me of the time I took the are you an alchoolic test and I loved how drinking alone put me into the alchoolic side. Also loved this one ever do something you regret when drinking yes but also when sober too. Though my favorite non medical alchoolic test I’ve heard is not an alchoolic I drink beer you like gin you’re a hopeless lush.

O

Dark roasted coffee with VO and creme, WoS Choc/Orange

B

@bob Reminds me of the time I took the are you an alchoolic test and I loved how drinking alone put me into the alchoolic side. Where does this put all the George Thorogood fans?

S

I always crank the volume up when I hear old George grinding out “I drink alone”. Our society is way over medicated and far too quick to slap labels on us alkies. Sherman and Grant drank their fair share (apologies to my fellow southerners who are still suffering under Federal tyrany). I personally feel cell phones and rap music have done at least as much harm to our social fabric as ethanol. I’ve always asserted that if we really want to undermine the Taliban we should send them cell phones, cable TV, and meth labs. That seems to be the prevailing recipe for gutting any modern society. I can just picture prime time TV airing Afghanistan Idol. But I assume that’s why they hate us anyway and fear our corrupting influence.

A

Love drinking alone. I’ve been drinking rotgut whisky all afternoon and listening to wery loud music. Am I an Alkie?.. who F^&**% cares.

W

Here here Snuffster!I was an alcoholic at 17, went to AA meetings and the like their view is basically never drink at all or you in denial about your alcholism if you do.I decided that alcohol would always be a part of my life,so just learnt to accept it as it is. Am I an alcoholic? I think it is all about control, whether you or the alcohol is in control, ie. having a drink to wake up, function throughout the day, and go to sleep at night. Or having a social drink a few times a week and not needing it to function? I am now in control of my life and alcohol does play a small part I no longer need it to function. Stefan

S

Good for you Stefan. I feel that AA has done a lot of harm and does not acknowledge its damage with exteremist views that have actually turned away some people who need serious help gaining control over their alcohol use. The statistics are in and reveal that AA is not that effective regarding alcohol abuse. 1/3 alcoholics quit abusing the drug on their own. Do some internet research and you can find this for yourself.

W

Yeah, AA is a pretty much all or nothing approach. It didn’t sit well with me. I got to the point where I was sick of alcohol ruling me and decided to take control of my life. Alcohol will always play a part in my life a bit like tobacco will, but its all about who/what is in control that makes you an alchoholic IMO. Stefan

S

Yep, yep. I totally agree.

T

My buddy died about 10yrs ago, and he was 37, and not sure what official cause was, but I bet it was alchohol related, as he just could not control his drinking. He was a super great guy, most caring person I’ve known. Yet he seemed to be unable to go a single day without getting falling down passing out drunk. He did seem to maintain a job. He was a fun person to be with, if both were sober, or if both were drinking. We met at work, and was drinking buddies. But he was a super pain to be around if drunk, and I was sober. But yeah, I think an alcoholic is one who cannot control himself and his drinking. Now I’ll drink to excess, sometimes alone too, but I prefer a friend with me, it just more fun. But I always have a date/plan, know where I’m gonna be, never drive, maybe once or twice a month, and I never drink on days before I have to work.

S

Its strange, but sober alcohol abusers tend to be some of the most interesting and neatest persons I’ve ever met. When you remove the ethanol you tend to find some really exceptional people. I’m not sure why this is so and don’t even care to go there. I just know from experience that its so.

M

I have a friend that goes to about 3 or 4 meetings a day to keep sober. I always felt he basically traded one addiction for another. In his case AA is the better alternative. I traded snuff for cigarettes, I don’t see much of a difference.

S

AA works for some people. It just wasn’t for me. They use a hardcore, no nonsense approach which is suited for serious ethanol addicts at the end of thier rope. For a lot of us tho we find the Masonic mindset of AA to be over the top. Some people just get sick and tired of being sick and tired all of the time. AA has probably done a lot of good but it also has done some harm in with its all or nothing approach. Just my opinion, mileage may vary.

T

Last night the South Park episode was about Kyle’s dad that got pulled over drunk driving. He went to AA, and they told him he had a disease and was powerless over it, and had to put his faith in a higher power. So he sits around the house drinking all day saying he is helpless and has a disease.

A

My name is Nigel and I am an alcoholic. But it is possible to control. The problem with AA and the like is that there are no gray areas, everything has to be black and white - and for some people that is needed, but for some - like me - it just doesn’t help. I controlled my drinking several years ago with the help of my fantastic wife. The result is that I am sitting here sipping a Scotch but that will not turn into a binge; I’ve not had one of those in years. I suppose it’s like tobacco - ‘they’ just can’t accept there could be an alternative and save some lives by pro-actively getting chronic smokers on to snuff.

J

I realized how dangerous this thing is when i was about 16. I had a few weeks when i used to get myself a little bottle of booze every day, just enough to get myself tipsy but not roaring drunk , made things all peachy. At one point i ran out of money for a few days so i stopped drinking my little ration , but i felt a deep craving. Like i couldn’t be happy without it and that scared the living daylights out of me.So i decided to stop drinking for a while , short as it was it opened my eyes to what kind of fire i was playing with. I still drink , and quite a lot but i know i can control it for one reason alone: I’ve never been scared of anything as much as I was scared of myself that day , of what i might become if i didn’t control it , i can’t even describe the feeling. I do tend to abuse my drink , can’t help that , it’s in my blood. Same with nicotine. Even so i don’t restrict myself too much. It’s just that I’ve made a conscious decision to keep myself in check. I could keep a bottle or three around and have a drink every night when i get home , but i don’t. I could just not touch the stuff ever again , but i don’t. Balance is everything :). You guys got it right , some just can’t accept the fact that there are alternatives when it comes to drinking and tobacco, however I’ll admit some are also not able to control themselves to such an extent. I’ve heard more than a few stories about people that didn’t end up so well.

B

a very cold "Ale-8-One "

A

Jack, you are completely right and in actual fact you sound pretty much like me. I always drink in the evening but when my Mrs says ‘would you like a cup of tea’ I know that’s the signal to knock it on the head, and it works for me and has done now for several years. The AA and kindred groups have done great things for desperate people (look at Eric Clapton’s addiction) but they are not for me, although I wish them the very best as they are a convinced and committed bunch of folks,

N

having a good Canadian drink tonight… Crown Royal on the rocks, Spanish Jewel in the nose, and The Band cranked. Most people that the band was mostly Canadian.

J

Jagermeister with a diet grapefruit soda back.

T

For some reason, I have been wanting some root beer schnaaps, I think I might get some tomorrow. I wish sweet liquers would be made “sugar free”, like diet sodas.

U

I’ve not touched any for maybe ten years now so, just a coffee and a pinch

S

Samuel Smith’s Taddy Porter to celebrate the end of term, before some nasty cheap cider.

W

some goldschlauger maybe a few vodka/gins (monopolowa vodka, gordons 90 proof gin)

Z

St. Pauli Girl Dunkel

B

Last night, one too many pints of Itchen Valley Treacle Stout, a fantastic rich, bitter brew made with treacle and liqourice.

D

A few pints of real ale and copious nostrilsful of SG Kendal Brown at the local after the Oldham v Exeter match.

B

funny a.a. fact of the day. One of the methods the guy who started a.a. used to quit drinking was lsd (which was used as an addiction treatment at the time). Used to be one of their main methods, they’ve edited that out of of their history at this point. Though it makes the meetings sound a lot more interesting. “Hi my name is Bob and I’am an alchoolic and part of the universal energy stream that is all things” Not really a fan of A.A… There are only two addictions that have been proven to typicaly be all or nothing for addicts (i.e. if you’ve been clean for years you’ll start withdrawing again) nicotine and meth. Not saying that with other addictions if you’ve been clean for years you’ll not be putting yourself in a precarious postion if you try it again but you won’t be withdrawing the next day either.

S

Psychotropic LSD therapy was indeed used to treat alcohol addiction at one time. Many prominent people including celebrities and politicians swore by it. Once Timothy Leary let the cat out of the bag all hell broke loose and by the late 60s it dropped out of use. I guess if you need a spiritual awakening it might do the trick. I’d hate to think my higher power was the butterfly goddess from planet Xenon. That could get a bit weird. I think I’ll just stick with an occassional few beers myself. @bob, there is a neat book called ‘Acid Dreams’ by Martin Lee and Bruce Schlain. If you haven’t read it I’d suggest checking it out. It has some really interesting info on the history of LSD. http://www.emaxhealth.com/63/7754.html

B

I may check it out for sure.

T

I’ve looked into Overeaters Anonymous online, as I have this binge eating disorder thing, but my issue with this, as AA, is the “higher power” thing, as I don’t accept a “higher power”. I do believe all things can be done, but it’s one’s own inner power that needs to be tapped and realized. Maybe it’s the same thing, but the approach turns me off.

G

A couple of old fashion’s and a Rob Roy to end the evening.

S

Pyramid Sno-cap Ale, 7.0% and damned tasty. @Spyro-“I’d hate to think my higher power was the butterfly goddess from planet Xenon.” And how is that any less bizarre than the myths that are currently being propagated by the three major religions we currently accept? “I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.” Stephen Roberts

M

water

S

@snuffegnugen- I understand what you’re saying, I’m gonna refrain from a comment tho because of the sensitive nature of religious topics on these forums. The context of that post was meant as a humorous reference to using LSD to make a deep spiritual breakthrough. (A valid method that can and has worked for some under the right conditions btw [HALLUCINOGENS - CROSS-CULTURAL PERSPECTIVES, Marlene Dobkin De Rios])

S

A Jug, or two of 5.7% Marstons Old Empire.

Captain Morgan Rum , arrr!

B

That’s the firkin I’m talking about, Snuffhead!

S

Lol! It’s fikin heavy when full.

S

Found some Golden Monkey Ale at an import store the other day. It was very spicy and quite strong, rather enjoyable but pricey. Reduced to drinking American swill atm (Miller Lite). Have some Chimay Grand Reserve at the girlfriend’s house for a special occasion. Maybe if the Cowboys can actually win their next two games I’ll pop the cork.

G

too many old fashions, Manhattans and beer. Good evening, already afraid of waking up tomorrow.

P

High, my name is Pieter and I’m an alcoholic. I’ve been sober since 24/12/1993 with the help of my Higher Power and the 12 Steps of AA. My Higher Power is God as I understand Him. I could not control my drinking by using will power and needed help. I found it at AA and dr Bob and Bill W are my two biggest heros. Only a fully blown alcoholic like myself will understand what it means when I say I HAD to drink to function normally. I had to be abnormal to be normal, could not go a day without alcohol. I was on the brink of commiting suicide because I could see no way out of this hell. A true miracle pointed me towards Alcoholics Anonymous and here I am, 16 years later, living like a king. If you want what I’ve already got and you are prepared to do anything possible to get it, you will do the 12 Steps of AA. If you are committed to become sober in all your doings, I can guarantee that the 12 Steps will do it for you. Not only help you to become sober but change your life completely. You will become a totally new person. It worked for me. It worked for millions of other sufferers. It will work for you, whoever you may be.

B

Working on a quart of eggnog

S

Total Domination IPA by Ninkasi Brewing Company, Eugene Oregon.

P

@ Bart, what is eggnog please?

B

It’s a product that comes out in the stores around Christmas–a drink that contains milk, heavy cream, eggs, spices (nutmeg, cinnamon).I usually have to cut the eggnog I get from the dairy in KY so my wife and kids will drink it, (it’s so thick it’s like trying to chug plaster) Very good if you acquire a taste for it.Some folks just make it themselves, it’s not too tough. Many folks add bourbon or rum to the eggnog but it rarely comes like that in the stores. Is there no such thing where you are from, Pieter?

S

@ Pieter, Bart explains it well, but here’s a link It’s a little like the Dutch Advocaat I think you will be familiar with that.

T

I made some Glogg the other day, I thought it was pretty good.

P

@Bart and Snuff Head, I thank you! And yes John, it looks like Advocaat to me. I would like to have a recipe to try and make it myself. Wikipedia give the ingredients but not the full recipe.

G

Sticking to Bass Ale.

@Bart: Saw Fat Tire on here, good beer. It’s what I get when I go to NC. A bit of a ritual. I wish you could try the Scottish Dram Tree Ale brewed in Wilmington. Damn good. Tonight its been Jim Beam.

S

Deschutes seasonal beer “Red Chair, Northwest Pale ale” Of course, having the opportunity to have it straight from the tap at the Brewery the other night was a real treat. If you ever find yourself in Bend, OR you better bring your thirst because there are some great local brew pubs.

C

Coors Banquet?

O

Black Butte Porter accompanied by WoS Best Dark

A

Had some Tuborgs as well. Nose clogged by too much snuff, switched to snus, Grov portion.

A

@cstokes4 PBR? Is this the beer Frank(Dennis Hopper) forced people to drink in Blue Velvet, Pabst Black Ribbon? He snuffed oxygen as well. Cool.

C

@AllanH: Pabst Blue Ribbon indeed. It’s a family tradition to drink PBR, my grandfather used to drink it in glass bottles back in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. I don’t drink it that often, but every now and again I like to have one for him.

B

Pabst was the NUMBER 1 beer of one of our Presidents, JAMES POLK. Hell, maybe there can be another quiz after Filek’s, this one dealing with abstract, useless knowledge…Anyone interested?

T

I wanted to drink some last night, but I only rarely have the desire to drink alone, my buddy was going to come over, but I just can’t figure out what takes him so long, he gets off work earlier than I do, yet can’t get himself together to get here earlier than 10pm, and I don’t want to stay up all night, I try to get him to come over around 8 or so, but he just can’t seem to do it. So we didn’t.

A

@cstokes and bart Thanks for info. I love these kind of anecdotes. My local off-license has a good selection of American beers, going to look for PBR.

B

@Allan All I can say is, DRINK IT REALLY, REALLY COLD! Also, I think Pabst was introduced a year before, or the same year Pres. Polk was elected and decreed it to be a superior beer. The fact that he died 5 years after his “Binge-Krieg” attack-style of drinking began, as some called it, has nothing to do with Pabst, just so you know :).

C

The colder the better. At least for American beers.

T

I went to this big liquor store today, because I wanted this flavored beer, there are a few brands, one is called Tilt. I had 2 brands before, and I liked it. I know one of them had some energy stuff in it, and they reminded me of a malt liquor lagar with Tang in them, but anyway, I liked it. So, I am looking all over for these, and not seeing them, so I ask this woman working there, and she didn’t know what I meant, then she remembered, and she had a sorta attitude, and said “we refuse to carry them, we will not carry them” in a kinda huffy way, and I’m all cool, and I said “why?”, and she said it’s because the children think they are energy drinks and don’t realize they have alcohol in them, and they accidentally once sold one to a minor. Sheesh. So, I went to the grocery and got a 12 of Steel Reserve and a cheap knockoff of Tang, and thought I’d just make my own.

T

I’ve had 4 Tang Reserves and I am drunk as can be!

A

Well done Tom!

P

Maybe a laphroaig quarter cask, or if I am feeling special a dram of my limited committee bottling of ardbeg corryvreckan. Beat that!

G

lots off cheap crappy beer?

G

Cold black coffee, with a teaspoon of sugar, and two good glugs of Jim Beam. Repeated at regular intervals. (quite refreshing, even if it sounds a bit odd.)

M

Everyday at my principle meal (lunch, when possible): Aperitivo: something bitter, usually just Campari or Cinzano Rosso straight, or prosecco for more special occasions. If I can get a bottle of Amaro Lucano (from Basilicata, where my grandmother was born), that would be the best. Wine: various bottles from Southern Italy, preferably an Aglianico del Vulture (DOC from Basilicata), also bottles from Calabria, Campania, Puglia, Sicilia, etc., though my “table wine” is just the Gabbiano Chianti Classico. With coffee: Frangelico or Sambuca (or espresso with liqueur straight) Digestivo: any kind of grapa, limoncello (though I miss the authentic kind… I need to learn to make this myself), Disaronno, Gran Gala (like Gran Marnier), etc., etc. Non-Italian digestivi: Chartreuse (either kind, but I prefer the green), absinthe, Benedictine, pastis, and I’ll even have the occasional schnapps.

D

I picked up a bottle of local wine today made with pomegranate. It is very tasty.

S

Mountain Dew Throw Back, none of that high fructose corn syrup crap for me. And I don’t drink alcohol anymore, been 4 years and 4 days.

W

I’m going to be drinking anything but beer, as I’ve got a bloody nasty case of gout. Can barely walk its that bad. Not good, not good at all. Stefan

G

Im Back… AGAIN…lol Nice to see this is still going on too. Ill be drinking some Flying Dog Double Pale Ale and toasting to you guys. Cheers

K

A dram or three of Aberlour with a bit of water. And of course a pinch or two of Garrett.

S

I’m having a nice hot chocolate before hopping into bed with the other half… I’m such a old man at the ripe old age of 20. Although that being said, once we are in bed… lol.

S

@Walrus1985 - I feel for ya man. I also have gout and I had to go through 8 really bad attacks of it before the doctors could figure out what I had. I was diagnosed with it at the age of 20 which is almost unheard of.

G

Just a cheap 16 oz Miller Lite tonight… kinda scrapped for coin.

J

Big Swell IPA from the Maui Brewing Company 6.2 ABV; There is nothing like a local, hardcore micro-brew. I wish someone would make a Kona coffee porter around here.

O

Savoring another Black Butte Porter

B

@Juxtaposer: What a small world ! At the weekend I had several pints of Maui CoCoNut PorTeR in my local pub. The guy who owns the company has travelled to Britain to brew it over here specially for the current Wetherspoons Real Ale festival. There’s an interview with him in the programme here.

W

@Snuff noob. I’m only 24. Its the second attack of it I’ve had in 3 months. I went back to the doctors yesterday and they gave me diclofenac and allopurinol, and it seems to have eased it. Before that I was just on ibuprofen. It’s bloody painful I can tell ya IMO it’s on par with a break pain wise. Hopefully should be gone by the weekend so I can have a beer again, I’m fookin gaggin lol. Stefan

A

Going American with my first American snuffs; off license didn’t have Pabst Blue Ribbon so had to settle to 4 for tenner offer of Sierra Nevada: Torpedo Extra IPA, Ale, Stout and Porter. Also bottles of Brooklyn Lager and Dixie New Orleans to keep things balanced. Oh boy, must say those Colonials know how to brew beer and mill snuff! Must get a plantation there!

S

I’m in my local Pub, "St’ John’s and drinking Marstons Old Empire, @ 5.7%.

B

Coors @ 1.7% (Well, they say 6 glasses of water a day. That’s what I shoot for…)

X

@AllanH: glad you finally got some decent beer. Sierra Nevada is among the top 10, maybe top 5 best microbrews in the US.

A

@Xander I drink decent beer every day! Must say Sierra Nevadas really are good and strong by deception like Belgian beers. Like Samuel Adam’s beers as well. Still was little disappointed not getting PBR, Michelob or Coors. Rolling Rock was there but that’s for watching Deer Hunter.

X

I meant decent American beer. I’d avoid the other ones you mention (PBR, Michelob or Coors. Rolling Rock) - Colored water all of them. Rolling Rock tastes just odd. My grandfather would drink nothing but Rolling Rock (except during Prohibition when he brewed his own in the bathtub). If you can lay your hands on it and like hops, try Victory Hop Devil. The other Victorys are good too. Dogfish Head, Anchor, Harpoon, and Saranac are also among the best micro-brews around. It would be fun to trade beer through the mail, like snuff, but I’d worry about shipping it.

B

I guess Xander is right… The cheaper beers are for hydrating during the Summer months, more or less. Anything from New Belgium Brewery I’ve liked or Juengling is pretty nice too.

A

@Xander Anchor Steam beer is familiar to me and local off license stocks it and I saw that Fish Head beer there and some Victory beers as well today! They have a good selection but don’t go there too often after I got a tab there; that shouldn’t happen!? Usually I don’t drink at home, I’m more pub person. And those light beers are good for occasion!

J

@AllanH: My old man loved Anchor Steam and bought it whenever he could (back before well-stocked beer stores were common). There are a few decent breweries around Detroit but so far my favorite is the Motor City Brewing Works and their Ghetto Blaster (English mild ale).

B

New Belgium “Skinny Dip”

F

Well, I’m under 21, so I shouldn’t be drinking anything other than soda. That doesn’t mean that I totally abstain from drinking, though (I am a college student, after all)! But I do not have anything to drink at the moment. I am a beer man, though (since the first time I ever drank was when I was in Germany!). If my current top favorites are Becks, Guiness and Rolling Rock, can anybody recommend me some other beers? I’m open to try anything, so long as it’s not too dark…

B

Weißbier with braunschweiger or red cabbage and sausages Maybe once every couple months, I treat myself to my favorite beers. Any of the ones made by G. Schneider and Sohn . Some of the best beer I’ve ever had!. The only thing stopping me from having it more is the price…

H

Tonight i will have Duvel Belgium Golden Ale and Erdinger weissbier along with F and T HDT!Delicious!!!

M

@FireMarth, There are a lot of different choices out there. For something lighter, I usually go with Newcastle or the like. I really enjoy Chimay. They have a variety of flavors. If you want the best beer available, you really should look for anything from Belgium or Bavaria. These are the two best general locales to find beer. I lived in Bavaria for a little while and was able to experience a lot of different beers there. By far the six most famous breweries of Munich are the following: Hofbräuhaus (what we usually had), Spaten (this is very readily available in America), Augustinerbräu, Hacker-Pschorr, Löwenbräu, and Paulaner. I’m not much of a beer drinker, but there seem to be quite a few beer connoisseurs on here; they can probably recommend some specialty beers to you.

C

@FireMarth: Try some Bit Burger, good pils. I also enjoy Samuel Adams Double-Bock, dark and chocolate, almost 10% by volume. Honorable Mentions: Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, Wittekerke, Wild Bill’s Orange Blossom. I also enjoy plain old fashioned American brews like Michelob and Pabst Blue Ribbon.

G

Im feeling adventurous today, so some Red Stripe and Asahi while Im watching Football, quite good so far.

S

I shall be drinking several bottles of Bombardier… Bloody good stuff! Drink of England after all. Oh which reminds me Happy St. Georges day everyone (for yesterday, although I couldn’t get on then)

G

well after 3 Red Stripes and 2 Asahis and quite a lot of Bourbon Im now officially drunk. So the goal for to day has been reached, thank you for your hard work.

F

ive got a couple of spitfires in the fridge (bloody big fridge) lol, shepherd neame spitfire, i might have those this afternoon.

B

“The first of May, The first of May, Outdoor drinking begins today”

F

blackthorn cider

A

Revolution was cancelled because of rain, so I’m drinking pints of Beamish in pub.

S

if my local has it ready, then it will be Jennings Cumberland.

B

outdoor drinking I thought it was something else that geban today.

S

an O’Douls Amber. even though I don’t drink alcohol anymore, sometimes a beer sounds good and this is the only non-alcoholic beer that tastes decent

S

Guinness, tap.

R

mountain dew today, getting over too many adult beverages while losing money on the derby yesterday…lol

L

Lots of coffee, i’m working a night shift!

M

Mineral Water. S. Pellegrino that I bought for a dollar

O

Hot chocolate and Wild Turkey

L

Stolichnaya Blueberry vodka… this is horrid, but the only alcohol left in the house. It is illegal to buy or sell alcohol on Sundays in Minnesota, so I couldn’t replenish the Samuel Adams supply in the fridge after golf today.

O

I’ve been hooked on the Foster’s oil cans they are 25.4fl oz. of beer and Foster’s is some good stuff. I made sure my fridge is stocked so I don’t have to get any for another week or so. Might have some wine as well, always got that around since I work at a vineyard =)

C

I liked Fosters okay until I found out it was brewed in Georgia… not Aus.

A

Tuborg, brewed in Dublin.

B

wide-mouth Coors

B

Today I bought Amaretto liqueur to add flavour to my coffe, but, as I had some brandy in my cabinet, I decided to mix them and see what happens. I started with 1:1 proportions and ended up with what I can now call ideal proportions for me: 2:1.5 with advantage of the amaretto. It’s quite sweet, but not vapid, with subtle grapey undertones of brandy, very nice evening drink. It is a very nice evening indeed, backed up with some SG Black Coffe, but I don’t have any more amaretto to use with coffee. @LincolnSnuff What is that stupid law of not selling alcohol on Sundays? I’ve never heard of it before and I’m glad that I live in the UK

X

@ biskup666: The puritans left a profound influence in American culture: Prohibition and “blue laws”. All states have a different set of laws. There are even blue towns or dry towns still in the USA. Ocean City, New Jersey is one. Here in Delaware we repealed our no booze on Sundays law a few years ago. Actually, bars could be open for as long as I remember, but not liquor stores. Now they can. Bars have to close at 1am though, not as liberal as neighboring Pennsylvania (2 am), but more so than the UK (10pm If I recall ?)

B

@Xander: A few years back the government introduced a law which allows any British bar to apply for a 24 hour license.

B

Regarding ridiculous American alcohol laws, one of the more stupid ones I came across was in Colorado. Apparently liqour stores aren’t allowed to sell any food, and food stores can only sell beer with a maximum strength of 3.2%.

X

Food stores can’t sell any alcohol here. Liquor stores allow some limited food sales, like drink garnishes (lemons, limes, cherries, olives, etc). My local also has tiny bags of potato chips I think, but I never paid much attention. That was not legal a few years ago when I asked if they had limes. Now they sit in a jar on the front counter. So some things are getting less restrictive, but it is a ridiculous mess, I agree. Last time I was in South Carolina, liqour only could be sold in tiny single serve bottles. Apparantly someone used a large bottle as a weapon once, so they got banned. Crazy. I’m glad you guys loosend your law on the bar closing times.

T

Were I live the grocery stores sell beer, but I think they don’t on Sunday, or it’s after only after 1pm, but it might be Indiana that’s after 1, and they also sell liquor. I’m right across the bridge to Indiana so I am over there sometimes too.

C

We are in the southern Bible Belt and yet we have rather loose liquor laws, in my county atleast. Bars open till 2am, groceries can sell beer, wine and food. Liquors sell food. More and more groceries down here are getting liquor stores attached to them.

B

christian moerlein “Friend of an Irishman”

D

Tonight a friend is bringing a bottle of Courvosier XO, I love Congac…

N

I like a hot toddy once in a while, for medicinal purposes. Or just a taste of straight, neat Glenlivet.

A

Sticking to Bass Ale.

B

I might have a bit of ginger ale.

S

Some new seasonal from New Belgium called Mighty Arrow. Anyway, regarding blue laws, I grew up in AR and there are dry counties all over, not to mention you specifically can’t buy alcohol on Christmas day. I can not understand how these laws persist in the face of growing secularism and the understanding that they all seemed to originate from religious prohibitions (barring some prohibitions on Reservations and other native american holdings). So, if your fed up with religion continuing to cross the line of demarcation separating church and state, you can support organizations like the Freedom from Religion Foundation FFRF Link and write your local representatives and remind them that we don’t want the US to be the christian version of Iran.

R

Thinkin coffee, perhaps a couple beers later. Michelob light was on sale…lol

K

I agree with NelsonPipeClub. I’m sippin on some Glenlivet now.

N

Apple Martini…

B

water!!!

J

I believe that the ban of sales on Christmas Day is the result of the impact of alcohol on emotionally disturbed persons and the likelihood of such individuals to impulsively buy and binge on that day. Besides most clerks would like that day off.

N

Plan to enjoy a bottle of Boulevard, Long Strange Trippel tonight.

S

Had a couple of Mike’s hard limeades so far. Considering making up a glass of Absinthe.

O

Porter

J

I’m sticking to water for a few days , went to the AC/DC concert last night , blew my head clean off. After that i got hammered on vodka and jager. Best night I’ve had in years!

G

already my 4 beer today and its only half past 6 here (pm, Im not that…) It seems I work better drunk. That project is coming along nicely. Its Becks/Gaffel Kölsch 50/50 by the way.

S

I’m in the St. John’s pub in Hull drinking Marston’s Old Empire

A

Tuborg Gron brewed at St James Gate brewery here in Dublin. This is my favourite lager now.

C

Tonight I will have some Margarets Hope in my cup, some Berwick Brown in my nose and some shisha in my hookah.

B

Miller Lite (Don’t usually drink it, but I’m curious about the new “Vortex Bottle”, haha!)

C

I had the Vortex bottles a few weeks ago at a bar. I didn’t really notice anything different. They do look cool, though.

B

I did sprain my tongue pretty bad, not paying attention as I drank. Serious vertex-like actions there… Well, I can say it’s just another gimmick. Like the Coors ‘fridge-keg’

C

And the Coors “Blue Mountain” crap. When a company has to make gimmicks, that usually means that their sales are down, and they are trying to get that guy at the bar to buy 1 or 6 of their new “Vortex” beers, because he is curious about it. Or they know that the guy at his corner store will pick it up because he is curious and will try to poke his tongue in the bottle and end up spraining his tongue. Wait a minute…

B

Haha that’s good Stokes!! The vortex can’t be plugged , I’ve come to find out. Just let it run it’s course… But damn, I have to start beating these folks to the ideas…always one step behind

N

Samuel Adams Noble Pils tonight.

S

I’m sitting at home, drinking an O’Douls Amber, while my girl is out with her friend drinking legally for the first time, its her 21st birthday so I told her to go out and have fun.

B

First thing I found looking up the vortex is that it is too counter their lose of sales. Good call. Oh gonna drink some o.j. with some other stuff in it won’t say what though,

B

I think I’ll have a DR. Pepper…

R

Just opened a michelob ultra…slimline cans.

B

Jack Daniels for me tonight. Nothing better than couple of glasses of neat whiskey in the evening. I’m also having large pinches of Toque Absinthe and Vanilla. Got them today, both great snuffs.

S

Huntington’s Special Reserve. Costly, but worth the expense.

B

Strongbow and Toque Peach. I wonder how would SG Apple work with a cider, but I’m too lazy to find it.

A

Going to be some Canadian rye for me.

S

Cheap Bourbon on the rocks.

A

Cheap is good, theres nothing to be rough red wine with some cheese, bread and olives.

T

If I feel like having a few beers when I get home later, I’ll have some Keystone light, and Steel Reserve.

W

I’m going to do my usual trick of having a 35cl bottle of vodka before going out to sup 6 or 7 pints of Younger’s best. This is cheaper than doing my usual 13 pints on a friday so I tend to do that. Stefan

S

Cheap red wine cut with ice water. My A/C doesn’t work so I have to be careful in this heat not to get dehydrated. Besides, I just want a buzz, not trying to get drunk. @Walrus1985 - Good Lord man, are you really doing 13 pints every Friday? I’d be very broke and very hung over if I tried to keep up with you. Unless of course you’re buying. Hint hint.

R

Drank a bunch of Patron XO…coffee flavored tequilla. Outstanding beverage, however, moderation would be prudent. I have the “mother” of all hangovers…lol

W

@ Spyro yep every Friday. I take it in moderation the other 6 days of the week though lol. Stefan

C

Rain Organic Vodka

T

I’m drinking Paul Masson Grande Amber Brandy, and I guess I’m kinda drunk.

S

Modelo especial, with lime and salt garnish. Accompanied by a fine meal of cedar plank-grilled salmon and green beans.

P

a Fat Tire.

A

Tea.

B

Two Hearted Ale on my day of rest

A

Special Brew snake bites. I know, I’m a wino, but they are just delicious with some decent strong snuff.

A

And SB/Cider combo’s to top up.

A

My tea drinking was all in vain; lady friend is stuck in Galway for a while so I’m drinking Beamish in every local at the same time!

C

Darjeeling and water.

B

Some cheap brandy. Not the best thing I’ve drank, but not bad either.

A

I’ve been on Beamish and Tuborg Gron today.

K

A shot or two of Jägermeister mixed with a little bit of Bären Jäger, which is honey liqueur.

S

Shiner Smokehaus - Mesquite Smoked beer. Goes great with steak.

T

Gin & Tonic.

A

Loads of something alcoholic. A day of bad news and it can only get worse so better face the shit-storm drunk.

C

Port City Java Blue Sky out of a French press.

S

I had this wonderful BarenJager, a honey liqueur. I like it better than jaegar.

C

Ah yes, ABC is starting to carry that. It looked inviting, I will have to pick up a bottle of that next time. Plus the bottle looks cool as hell. “Real” German schnapps are not to be missed my favorite flavors being Apfel, Kirsch and Plum.

A

Back to Beamish. I’ve been drinking cider lately due warm weather.

G

bottles of becks and feldschlösschen finished by a couple of glasses glanmorangie. will see what coms next.

S

I am currently settling into my first bottle of four, and the weapon of choice being Old Empire - India Pale Ale.

S

And I shall be having a nice Cuban cigar with it, followed up with a few pinches of snuff. What snuff, I know not. We shall see!

B

Untouchable IPA

B

Earl Grey tea

M

Right, having forgotten about this thread, I actually started a whole new one for no reason whatsoever… Teaches me to post under influence. Murphy’s and Glenfiddich here.

B

Yeah we know, Mitten

S

Mt. Dew, and then probably some tea

J

Can’t I just drink during the day and be done with it.

A

Yep, I do.

T

I drank quite a few bottled Miller High Lifes last night.

W

I’m off to a 25th wedding anniversary tonight so I shall be rat arsed yet again I shall sample a pint or two or Younger’s Best bitter as usual. Stefan

S

Back to watered down wine again for economic reasons. I’d die for some quality ales but its just gotten too expensive where I live. Used to brew my own ales and I’m tempted to make some dandelion wine, sour apple cider, or potato beer soon. Still have the old recipes tucked away in the back of an old family bible.

M

Seems like it’s stout-o’clock, time to pop open my first Murphy’s of the night. Edit: Fix’d.

G

Iced Tea

T

I want some Sparks or Tilt, but won’t be around anywhere to get them till maybe tomorrow if that. I do have some Makers Mark in the cabinet.

G

good idea. ill finish my bottle of makers make waiting for my birthday to arrive.

W

Happy Birthday Goldenboy! I’ve had 10 cans of Stones bitter (over 3 hours so I am only merry), then I’m off out to down at least 8 or 9 pints of Younger’s Best bitter as usual. What can I say? I’m a beermonster lol Stefan

W

@ Tom wtf is Tit??? Stefan

W

PMSLMAO I misread that it says “Tilt”. Dear god what have I become? lololol Stefan

G

glad to see youre only merry too Stefan. I personaly am quite drunk right now after a couple of Bitburgers and Becks and the makers mark and Im now moving on to an Irish Whiskey called Greenore. Two drunk Stefans in the same thread, a rather rare sight I belive.

T

Tit should come in a can with alcohol. Yeah, it’s Tilt, it’s a high alchohol malt liquor that’s flavored with something like orange kool aid, with added caffine(I think). I like it.

W

@Stefan lololol a rare sight indeed. Didn’t realise there were any other Stefan’s on here though I was the only one :-(. You may be a Stefan but I Am The Walrus!!! lololol Stefan D

G

how to pronunce Stefan in english? Steven? Im aproching the state of drunk heaven right now, good to now another stefan is on the way there too. Cheers to you mate. you are the walrus, but I am golden, and a boy. lol

B

I’ve recently taken a fancy to rum drank straight, so I’m enjoying some Baccardi.

W

You pronounce Stefan the same way in English as you do in German. I’m half German, but was born in England and lived here for the last 20 years. Stefan

S

Tonight, I will enjoy a glass of this served neat. Just before my first sip, I’ll look at my glorious personal supply of snuff and e-cigs (both of which could easily last me 5 years) and say, “F#*k the man!”

B

nice. Lover the snifter too.

B

This evening I had a few beers and two or three glasses of absinthe.

R

I had several michelob ultra with a steak, followed by a snifter of courvoisier, littel taxi and off to bed

S

Cheap whiskey with RC Cherry cola. You do what you can when times are tough.

M

Buckthorn berry-tangerin-OJ.

S

I’m having a wonderful Pernod Pastis, with a nice cigar, and then some F&T Old Paris.

P

A frosty Fat Tire

S

@ Pike Mopers: that is truly the worst beer I’ve ever had. lol

P

@saucy Haven’t you ever had a Budweiser or a MHL? Couldn’t possibly be the worst… As far as having a robust/complex/interesting flavor I can’t say much for it, though.

S

@ Pike: touche! i bought a bottle of that one night many moons ago and i cracked it open and it tasted stale and i was looking for a date on it when I found a crushed roach on the side of it - not from my house! i will never have that beer again.

S

MHL is good to keep on hand as a laxative.

M

Pissy finnish lager, as it turns out.

T

PBR!

W

My usual 13 pints of Youngers Best bitter. Stefan

P

3- bottles Chimay blue label… Yikes !!!

N

a couple glasses of Absinthe Original Bitter Spirit made the classic way, pour over sugar then add water slowly and watch it louche.

A

Many pints of Beamish and Tuborg. Didn’t drink much due personal reasons for a couple of weeks: wasted days!

P

soy milk yeah brotha

S

Aalborg Akkvavit lol

S

The VA tried giving me alpha-blocker blood thinners to reduce nightmares and flashbacks for PTSD so I abstained from drinking for a while. Blah, they didn’t work so I’m back to wine and water. I sleep just fine now with now horrid side effects.

M

Alpha blockers, beta blockers… It’s all horrid gunk. I mean, if you REALLY need it, then fine, suffer the side effects. Doctors prescribe those too much, too easily.

S

I agree Mittens. The VA has no interest in resolving the root of my problems but they are more than eager to prescribe pills. When I asked my psychiatrist about this his reply was “do you really wan’t do that much work ?”

A

Bulmers cider. It’s summer! Still on Bulmers!

F

magners cider this evening

A

Bulmers is Magners in UK. Good summer drink, had a pint earlier. Now some Tuborg!

S

bob, As I said before, my situation is somewhat unique. As a young man I started off as a dog handler with the Air Force. I saw combat during the Panama Invasion and was assigned to a special advisory team in Nicaragua in the late 80s. I trained counter communist units in tracking and scouting operations and sometimes accompanied them on missions. I saw a lot of civilians tortured and killed during that time but most of that was classified. Officially it never happened. Later I became a police officer and served in Mesquite, Texas (just outside of Dallas) for 20 years and attained the rank of Sergeant. I took an early retirement to get out of the business due to the stress. The year I retired, my wife began having an affair behind my back. I fell into a deep depression, and after fighting with my wife, I got arrested driving home with my kids after a family holiday party just after Christmas. I was charged with two felony counts of DWI by a rookie State Trooper based on a new law that had just been passed six months previously. I was still unaware of my wife’s affair and one night a couple of months later I took my youngest son to go see a movie. When I arrived home, my wife had called the police station worried about me because she didn’t know where we were and thought I might be suicidal. In fact she was afraid that I had found out about her affair and was setting me up. I arrived home that evening to find my driveway filled with police cars. My ex-coworkers including many officers I had trained and supervised were combing through my house and I was detained in my driveway. I had bought some marijuana via my wife (turns out the guy she got it from was a co-worker she was having an affair with) and was using it for depression and a back injury. Basically she set me up. My ex co-workers from my very own police department came into my house, and with my wife’s permission, illegally searched my home taking all of my guns, knives, police related clothing, military equipment, writings, and computers. I was hauled off to the county hospital against my will and admitted as being suicidal even tho it was not true. I spent five days in a bullshit mental health hospital and as soon as I was released I was charged with possession of marijuana, 3 grams. As the next couple of months unfolded, my wife announced that she was leaving me and filing for a divorce. I also learned that she had maxxed all of our credit cards and forged my name on my city savings account for $40,000 and left me with nothing. I found myself alone, depressed, and involved in a legal battle to protect my retirement pay and liable for 3 credit cards with about $60,000 of debt and slapped with child support. At this point, no one would hire me. I had gone from being a police sergeant making $70,000 a year to being a mentally unstable person with a criminal history including felony DWI, Possession of Marijuana, and tons of debt. I literally couldn’t get a job at McDonald’s. I became increasingly depressed and went to a doctor a few months later for depression and suicidal thoughts. He told me to get to hospital right away and check myself in for treatment. On the way home I stopped at a beer store and grabbed a 12 pack. I gulped the beer down while packing my bags and making arrangements for someone to watch my cat. I then tried to drive myself to the hospital and stopped at a convenience store to get a drink on the way. Some guy ran out in the parking lot and said that I had hit the bumper on his car when I parked. The next thing I knew, I was swarmed by cops, (again, some of the same people I used to work with and had hired and trained) tossed on the ground and handcuffed. I was arrested and taken to the very jail I used to supervise and booked in for another DWI. In case you haven’t gotten the picture yet, the police department is very political and there were those in the upper branches that really wanted to destroy me for personal reasons. Now I was really screwed. This 2nd DWI violated my probation on the first one and eventually lead to me being tossed in jail. I spent 15 days in isolated confinement. The judge wanted to give me 2 years but a friend of mine bribed them into letting me go. So here I am today. Waiting to pay off my fines and be released from probation. In 2005 I was a senior supervisor with the police department making $70,000 a year and $50 an hour overtime pay. My wife of 9 years betrayed me, stole my savings, and sold me out to my political enemies at the police department who jumped all over the chance to ruin my life. I’d be lucky to get a job making french fries at a fast food restaurant. I subside on my retirement pay and can barely afford to buy food. All of the horrors of my past have caught up to me and I’ve been diagnosed with PTSD. I’ve been involved with shootings, stabbings, fire fights, high speed chases, hand-to-hand fights for my life, CPR involving children and infants, witness to tortures where peoples hands were cut off, etc… And nobody gives a shit. Americans hate cops and I’ve learned not to tell people I used to be one. Military vets just tell me, “Oh, you were a cop, you’re not really one of us.” I’m not supposed to even talk about what I saw in the military because I signed a 30 year security oath. The VA can’t even access my military combat records. So that’s my sob story. Sorry to bore you with the details but you can see that things are complicated for me. I’d love to just move away and make a fresh start but I’m stuck for now. I’m lucky to have VA health care benefits. A lot of people have it much worse than I do and that fact keeps me going. Hope things are better for you. Regards. Mel

W

Bloody hell Spyro that is one hell of a story. I seriously hope things get better for you. I suffer with mental illness myself, so I have some sort of a grasp of what you suffer. I really hope things improve and wish you luck. Stefan

S

Yeah, that was one hell of a read. I’m not going to pretend to understand what you’ve been through, but it sounds dreadful. I hope things are on the up for you. On the other hand I was drinking Duvel with a mate tonight. Talking politics, women, and all sorts of nonsense. This forum even got a look in, along with a pinch or two of Toque BB.

T

I probably would have joined the Taliban.

A

I concur Tom here. Sometimes you have to challenge the devil no matter what.

K

@ Pike Mopers I love Fat Tire One of the top on my list. right below Newcastle and Guiness.

K

Sam Adams Boston Lager and some Longbow

S

session black and a punch rothschild and then some radford.

N

Samuel Adams Oktoberfest and Guinness Extra Stout.

S

Canadian whiskey and Xanax.

W

Just had 7 cans of Stones bitter. Now out to the pub to consume another 10 pints of Younger’s Best. I love Fridays I’m never any good on a saaturday but hey ho lololol. Stefan

B

spyro that is dangerous. You might find wondering why you’re cooking so many eggs at once till the chef gives you another order. At least that has been my experience.

A

Walrus, I like your style!

A

Tonight I will have a little bit of Malibu Rum, most I can drink for past few moths and in very little quantities Sadly due to a few health problems drinking has become a very treat recently.

P

Pabst Blue Ribbon, my Holy Grail of cheap beer. To be followed by some New Castle brown ale when i get off the computer and walk down to the store.

B

Been thinking of opening my only can of “Billy Beer”. I’ve had it so many years…I would thinks it to be skunky…or it could be really really good!

K

Depends on what my Snuff buddy brings to the house tonight.

K

Okay, I was drinking Taylors Landlord, which is the best drink in the world. I have now sobered up enough to know that a post with that many mistakes shouldn’t be seen by too many people! I will still say that everyone in Britain should support their local pubs as much as they can and balls to Wetherspoons and the like. Without my village pub, this place might not be worth living in.

E

I’ve had some water.

R

Some port that is made in Florida. San Sebastian

X

I think I’ve seen a lot of drunken posts tonight. Is it a full moon or something today?

B

@Kunugaa: Agreed, Timmy Taylor’s Landlord is the perfect pint ! I just wish it was easier to find. I go to a film festival in Bradford every year and you’d have thought it would be in just about every bar given that Bradford is only a few miles from the brewery. But I’ve only found TWO pubs which sell it regularly. Luckily one of them is across the road from the cinema ! Their Dark Mild is quite magnificent too, but I’ve only ever seen it in one bar in Wales, of all places.

B

@Kunugaa: I’m ambivalent about Wetherspoons. I don’t think they’re as pernicious as the likes of Yates’s or O’Neills. I agree that the local pub should be supported whenever possible but if I’m in a new town and don’t know where the decent local bars are, I’ll always head to the Wetherspoons. You’re pretty much guaranteed a well kept pint at a reasonable price.

M

Can’t make up my mind between Ranger IPA or Black Butte Porter. I suppose it will depend upon what frame of mind I’m in after work.

B

Sam Adams Octoberfest

K

Aberlour

K

@BradMajors, ha, I didn’t know I wrote that, maybe I was bit drunk? I used to use a Wetherspoons as my local as it was the only decent pub for miles. I just have a bit of a beef with them at the minute because they have opened one in Otley which has a great pub every few steps. They are sadly closing at quite a rate and every time I go by the stinking Wetherspoons it is packed, doesn’t sound like good news to me. Pretty strange that you couldn’t find Landlord in Bradford! I’ve not been to Bradford much but it is in just about every pub around Leeds and in the countryside to the North. I just checked The Good Beer Guide and there is only one pub listed that has a mention of Landlord, weird. Fanny’s in Saltaire is a great pub, maybe 10 minutes from Bradford on the train. Saltaire is a nice place to take a look at if you have not been and find yourself at a loose end. I’ve just been on a stag weekend, this involved drinking in dumps where a decent pint is impossible. Luckily I had a wait at Sheffield station and there is a wonderful, wonderful pub off the platform. I wolfed down two fantastic pints in fifteen minutes to make up for the weekend!

B

@Kunugaa: The other half has been to Saltaire shopping a couple of times but I’m usually too busy watching movies ! I’ll try to make some time next year. If you’re ever stuck for a decent pint in the centre of Bradford, head for the Jacob’s Well, opposite the National Media Museum’s Pictureville cinema.

N

some Moosehead lager

S

Sounds like a fun area for pub crawls there Brad. Unfortunately, I’ve stopped drinking for now. My intestines are still messed up from some meds I was given last month. Drink a pint or two for me next time you’re out.

A

Rum.

S

They have Landlord at my local here in Bristol, a fantastic beer. @Spyro - A lot of students at Leeds University attempt the Otley Run which no longer starts in Otley but is a pub crawl including 20 pubs, good fun.

B

Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen Always seems wise to get a jump on October in September…

R

Black Label on the rocks

B

water lots of water. Water is good.

P

Caribou Lou- Pinapple juice, Malibu, 151 Rum. 3-2-1. Try it, if your not busy for the next couple days.

B

Tonight I’m having a big jug of Pimm’s with lemonade etc. I feel like drinking something lighter after last night with gin&tonic.

J

Another pot of coffee on the brew…

P

Had a couple of Miller Lites earlier. Just tossed back a shot of Very Old Barton, which I’m following with an iced tea chaser.

S

A couple of shots of Smirnoff 80 proof vodka and several Yuengling’s. There is a bottle of Everclear in the freezer…but I have to be really on a binge to tap into that. Ha. ~Ken

X

Everclear is good to keep on hand as a pipe cleaner.

S

Deschuetes’ Brewery’s Iversion IPA

S

Tonight is going to be a tea night. A couple cups of Dong Ding Oolong, probably. Maybe a cup of Darjeeling or Keemum. Ill just see where the night takes me. ~Ken

B

‘Topo Chico’ Mexican mineral water on sale for .50 beans a bottle at the grocery store. Never had mineral water in my life. It’s pretty good with lime in it.

S

Just finished some lemonade tea. Onto the Yuengling! ~Ken

M

@Snuffy Dong Ding Oolong? If they transposed the name, I’d probably drink it just to tell people I did! Had too much of that Chardonnay I used in making dinner tonight. Might have a cup of English Breakfast before bed. Tired enough from the wine that caffeine shouldn’t make much of a difference.

A

I had my 10000th pint of Beamish at my current local. That’s just conservative guesstimate, but it’s a fact.

M

Murphy’s Stout, as in Mother’s Milk. Goes well with sausarillos and fries, eaten with chopsticks. (Yeah, I was too lazy to do the dishes, again.)

K

Drunk again. Landlord int’ village pub again.

B

Spawny get. I was in my local last night having a few pints of Rebellion Mild. Rather tasty it was. I’m a sucker for a decent mild.

A

As much as possible

M

@BradMajors Lucky Devil! Very difficult to get Mild on this side of the pond. It seems that Beer drinkers here are more concerned with high Alcohol content than flavour here. I need a good session Beer and can’t find even one. Screwdrivers again for me tonight. Found a great deal on Vodka. 1 3/4 L. for less than $20. Last bottle I bought only went 4 days, unfortunately. Tough times = immoderate consumption for me.

S

It’s PBR’s tonight. Good, cheap beer. I also bought a 3 liter jug of sake. Gonna give that a whirl. Anyone drink this? ~Ken

T

Cheap vodka for Bloody Marys. Natural Light, and I might mix my naties bloody too.

X

Ken, I quite like sake. I brought back a bunch of bottles when I was in Japan a few years back. Now I usually have it only when going out for Japanese food. It goes down so smoothly, especially when served hot, that you don’t realize you are drinnking alcohol. You can get pretty messed up if you aren’t aware. I took a second engineer out one night ashore and introduced him to it. He couldn’t get up for work the next day, and when he finally did he kept saying “man, that stuff should be illegal.” Well the guy was not all there to begin with, but as we sometimes say: he was “travelling with half a sea bag.” @Bradmajors: any beer named “Rebellion” sounds good to me! but lets not go into that here…

J

Gilbey’s gin. I’m watching Nineteen Eighty-Four and I reasoned that Gilbey’s is the closest you can get to Victory Gin without going out to the garage and pouring a shot of 1-K kerosene. Doubleplusgood! Hehehe…

S

Drinking some Oolong right now. No, Mr Snuffypants, not Dong Ding. Just plain, 'ol, Oolong. I bought the sake because I was making Teriyaki chicken for my woman and myself last night, but only ended up having a glass of it. I served it at room temperature, as I was instructed to do by the internet, and each sip was damn near like taking a shot. Went in and sat in your mouth real smooth, but as soon as I swallowed I got punched in the face. Ha. Put it in the fridge for next time. Probably tonight. Do you drink it refrigerated at all? Or was room temperature correct, and I just got real nasty sake…at $15 per 3 liter. Ha. ~Ken

X

Ken, yes, I’ve had it chilled as well as room temp, and hot. Served hot it takes away that punch. Served chilled you will repress some of the subtle flavors, but give it a bit more punch.

S

Served hot takes away the punch? Huh. I thought I was getting that because it was not chilled. How is it that you personally heat it? I’ve read a couple of different ways online, but don’t know what works the best. ~Ken

X

Pour what you intend to drink in a saucepan and hold it over a flame. Keep it moving by a rotating/twisting motion in your wrist. You don’t let go of the handle, just keep moving it and don’t let it boil. It should only take a few seconds. Tradtionally its served in a small stoneware or porcelian carafe with small cups. Most Asian grocery stores have these for sale. Its like nectar…just sweet and nothing harsh.

S

Very cool. Will have to give that a shot. Now that I have refrigerated it, will it damage it to take it out and just keep it at room temp? I have a very large asian grocery around the corner from me, so I will look for those. I used to have some really neat sake cups that I got from an estate sale a couple of years ago, but I have seemed to have misplaced them. Thanks for the info. Oh, and drinking a PBR right now. ~Ken

X

To this question I have no answer. Generally its a no-no for wine, though. Just keep it stored there for now, and use as you please from a cold state. I suppose you can cook it from a cold state.

P

Snuffy, last time i was at a sushi bar i watched them take a porcelin carraf of saki and stick it in the microwave for 30 seconds, hows that for authetic. In their defense it was 15min after close and i was the last to order from a large party. Pabst Blue Ribbon w/mary mix for me. Got to get something into me stomach before me Caribou Lou endevor(3-2-1/Pinapple juice,Malibu,151) Oh, and some jello shots made with gut rot vodka to end the evening(its the only thing i can get my girl to drink).

T

I already had some Natural Light with Bloody Mary Mix but I think I am going to have to warm up some Gekkeikan Sake. All this sake talk is stiring up a craving.

A

Pabst Blue Ribbon is a good lager and those cute bottles look like sex toys, don’t they?

S

Just had a sip or two of the sake from the fridge. It was much better than last night at room temp, but it still packed a bit of a punch for something you sip. But, again, I bought the cheapest, biggest, highest alcohol content bottle of sake I could find. They had a good selection, but I’m low on funds this week. When I have the money to, I’ll get a nicer bottle. Perhaps even one of the many flavoured ones that they offered. @Pot Poe- HA! I’ll give that a whirl, as well as the way Xander proposed. If it tastes the same, there’s no reason not to just put it in the microwave. ~Ken

M

Good ol’ Silk Panties…or whatever alternate stupid name some Bartender decided to call Vodka & Cranberry juice.

X

^^Sea Breeze, I think. Or Cape Codder.

C

A Cape Cod… not silk panties!!!

M

Typical American I am, I like my cheap sake warmed up, in a coffee mug, as I’m from Wisconsin. Yes, Cape Cod,… but, as a part-time bartender, when someone orders a Cape Cod-er, I’m obliged to add a shot of 7-Up.

T

Admiral Nelson and Coke Zero. Admiral Nelson out ranks Captain Morgan ;b

M

Not sure, New Belgium 1554 or Fat-Tire.

M

@mcguyver75 Go for the 1554! Have you tried Deschutes Black Butte Porter?

M

No I havn’t. But I will look. I once bartended at Bodega Brew Pub, some of the most rare and impressive beers! Check them out on-line.

B

I almost bought a bottle of captian nelson vanilla It’s sounds so wrong. It was on sale for really really cheap. Instead it’s one of the ole stand-bys Bullsblood. Tasty stuff.

W

Pub is shut tonight so I have bought myself 6 bottles of Marston’s Strong Pale Ale, 6.2%. It is a very quaffable beer, nice session beer. Stefan

M

I’ve been doing a bunch of IPA’s and PA’s lately. Hmm Hopalicious anyone?

S

i had a pint of snake dog IPA on tap

M

Nice. Crooked Tree is a great one as well, however I prefer it off the tap as the bottles have a bit much sediment. I’m thinking I’ll be fishing in a bit, so instead of the 1554, i’ll stick with the Hi-Life, as it’s a more fitting beer for fishing off the boat.

S

A guy at work with told me that I should try Milwaukee’s Best Ice. I picked up a six pack last night, and after one I’m back on the PBR. Sure, it has more alcohol, but there is a weird taste in the background that I don’t like. I didn’t notice it the first couple of sips…but I’m not digging it. ~Ken

T

More Admiral Nelsons and Coke Zero for me tonight.

M

@Snuffy, That’s the dreaded diacetyl, Ken! I had to pretty much quit drinking adjunct Lager due to the effect on my blood sugar. Just sticking to IPA, Pilsener and Porter these days, if I don’t want to get messed up in more ways than one.

M

Hi-Life was good on the boat. IPA tomorrow, or something Belgium, like 1554, maybe something new to me…

M

Tonight, it will be a mix and match 6 pack of IPA’s and Extra IPA’s. I’m feeling hoppy today.

M

I’m currently drinking “Dancing Goat’s” custom coffee blend at Jule’s Coffee House in La Crosse WI, sniffing White Ele, Rooster, and Toque Bourbon trying to decide which goes best. I’ll be vibrating shortly and in dire need of the above IPA soon.

B

@snuffy you mean Beast ice. I know even they mispell it on their cans but it’s beast not best. That is a terrible beer. The only good thing I can say about it is that it works. PBR is a much better budget choice for sure. Lions head is also pretty good for the price at least in my part of PA so it may be cheap where you are too.

M

My mix and match selection for the evening: Raging Bitch Belgian-Style IPA 8.3% New Belgium…Ranger IPA 6.5% Pearl Street Brewery… Pearl Street Pale Pale Ale ?% (local) Flying Dog… Doggie Style Classic Pale Ale 5.5% Flying Dog… Snake Dog IPA 7.1% Southern tier… phin & matt’s extraordinary ale ?% FIREBALL Cinnamon Whiskey 33% 4 50ml bottles for $.50 ea. This is my bad vice, I will never buy a regular bottle as I cannot stop drinking this stuff when available as it’s like drinking liquid cinnamon redhot’s. It is NOT schnapps, therefore very misleading. 66 proof will K.O. you before you realize. I’ve gotten into lot’s of trouble with this. Liquid muscle at it’s tasty best. (Also Canadian) Violence in a bottle, true firewater. Too much of this and I’ll accidently take my bhut jokia fine ground pepper as snuff. Over a million Scoville up the nose could kill a man.

S

M

Here’s a great list for you all. I worked here for all of a month last year. Turns out the owner failed to tell the manager or anyone else that I was hired as the asst. manager. I was laid-off (again) from my tool and die job when I took the position. Let’s say it started out bad because I came off as more of an a-hole than I normally am because I was the asst. and nobody knew it except the owner. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20. I still stop in as it’s listed as one of the best if not THE best brew-pub in the states. I mean, trying to memorize the location of almost 400 different types of beer that were constantly changing along with sampling 18 different taps was a challange as I go to school full-time, work full-time, and this was a “second” job. Take a look at the beer list for some great drinking options with your different snuffs and tastes. http://www.bodegabrewpublax.com/ I wish I would have left on better terms and didn’t piss everyone off. I would love to still work there even if only bouncing, or bartending during the slow-hours.

G

Mine is easy…what am I drinking? A lot. no I like Boulevard brewery from Kansas City MO makes a great porter “BULLY PORTER” Dont really know the hop level, but I am gonna guess it is WAY up there. I like that myself. Mix it half bully porter, half miller high life and you have a great black and tan. Other than that, I am a sour mash kinda guy. Blended sort of takes all the taste out of it. I like tequila too, Sauza amber. with limes and lemons oh my. thats what I had for my birthday bash at the motorcycle club clubhouse. Tequila, one tequila, two tequila, three tequila FLOOR…Yes I did have a good time, why not 57 comes only once.

M

@snuffmoose Tried the Rogue last week. Good, however not the best Chocolate Stout out there. Have you tried Oscars Chocolate or more commercially available Youngs? Dead Guy Ale is my favorite from Rogue. There is a tavern in Chicago that has 7 or so Rogue’s on tap at any given time. Yum! I’m currently downing the Southern Tier, phin & mans extraordinary ale now, I hate to say this but it reminds me of Hi-Life only with hops. @graybeard I should have had my cousin bring some stuff to me when he worked for KCS railroad. My sis live’s in Columbia so I’ll ask her to look. Your black and tan idea sounds good. Kind of like Black and Blue, aka Guiness and PBR. I can’t handle too much mash anymore, although I’m ready for more fireball. That being said, I have a Toque Absinthe snuff. When I first opened it, it was too much to handle for my allergy sensitive butt, but now after sitting 2 months it’s easier to take, I enjoy a few large pinches every now and then. The nic isn’t really noticable for me so it takes a bit. I’ve mixed it with some others with good results. I’d like to drink some absinthe while using the snuff, maybe I’d become a writer or artist or something. Cheers!

N

Moosehead Lager

M

Did NI backwards N say Moosehead hangover?

M

I blew my beer budget on IPA’s yesterday, plus I’ve been lazy today so for my wallet and gut’s sake, probably some watered down MGD 64.

T

I’m gonna drink some Sparks tonight.

S

Drinking on some PBR’s…as usual. ~Ken

M

I had a Sparks earlier. I can only handle one before I go into headache mode. I like the one in the black can. PBR sounds good! It’s my favorite to par-boil brats with, then of course drink a cold one while grilling said brats. I use stouts or porters in my chili. It’s getting to be that time of year to make chili too.

B

pinnacle vodka. I am no vodka conisuer but I do like this. It’s flavored and my girlfriend bought it and it’s actualy really good. Next thing I know pigs will fly.

T

Uh, I’m not drinking at all tonight, my buddy is not coming over, and I don’t feel like slamming beers by myself.

J

Samuel Adams Irish Red. I haven’t had this one yet, hopefully it is alright.

S

Just…water tonight. I have to pick up my woman from the train station at 10:30. A fridge full of PBR is calling my name, but I cannot answer. It’s a very sad night. ~Ken

M

Ditto for me. I’ll be heating it up and throwing some English Brek in, probably. Had an incident the other night that I won’t go into much detail about, other than the Alcohol and Diabetes had a little war with each other in my system.

T

Rum and Coke, accompanied with Toque Coke. Very nice accompaniment indeed.

M

Water!!!

M

N/A apple cider, soda, water, etc… I stay “dry” every other week. Damn it.

R

@thatjerk i like that combination as well but tonight it’s going to be a Stella Artois night…

T

@ ra.stanit Stella sucks here in the states. It is better over seas where it is fresh. Otherwise, Stella Artois is a great drink.

T

Sunny D and Rum Yum Yum

M

Stella was very good at the Brew Pub I used to tend bar at. Sprite tonight!

R

@ thatjerk yep yep i concur… still stella is stella…

M

New Belgium 1554, a couple early in the day. I saw the New Belgium truck on my way to La Crosse this am and got wood for some. Yum. Excellent with Dholakia White, and I’m sure even better with W.E. if I had some. Soon enough, the White Ele also goes excellent with the Dancing Goats custom made coffee at Jule’s coffee house.

S

Mikkeler Mandeol, it’s their collabortion with Nøgne. an imperial stout, ridiculously dark, the dark malt gives it tobacco-y, leathery old library book notes. check it out if you can. i hit it with a snout full of toqu cheery/cherry menthol home blend.

A

Tee with milk tonight.

M

@ snuffmoose, Sounds awesome, but I don’t like menthol. However I think I have about 8 snuff’s that would me excellent with Stout. Stout and cigars is a great mix too. It’s 3:15 pm in my town now, and I’m switching to sprite. I feel bad enough about the two 1554’s I had as I choose to stay dry every other week. I havn’t even over-indulged with alchohol since June. With my meds, 2 beers is like 10!

S

Today, on my weekly trip to the distributor, I decided that I would check out some of the single cans they have in the fridge (I buy beer in Maryland, so you can get cases, 6 packs, singles, wine and liquor in the same store. IDK how it is everywhere else, but here in PA you get cases at the distributor, wine and liquor at a separate store, and six packs and 40’s from small pizza shops and the like). While browsing I come across a pint can of Boddington’s English Pub Ale for $1.89. One fridge over I found this weird looking can that says “FOUR LOKO” in big letters. Come to find this is one of those alcoholic energy drinks someone was talking about on this thread. $2.39 for a 24oz can at 12% ABV. Can’t beat that. I haven’t tried it yet, as I have to pick up my woman from the train station at 10, but I’m looking forward to it. Blue Raspberry…ah… ~Ken

M

When you buy the energy plus alchohol drinks, check out where it’s canned. Is the FOUR LOKO canned in Wisconsin? Our big brewery contracts out. They almost bought Latrobe. God, I wish I had a rolling rock right now.

S

Yes, mcguyver, it is brewed in Wisconsin. I read on it’s wikipedia that the ABV varies with certain states, but I purchased the highest the line has to offer. Rolling Rock is a good ale. One of the better one’s that I have tried. Anyone else here ever drink Lord Chesterfield? It’s made by Yuengling, so I thought it would be good…but it is terrible. Their lager is one of my two favourite beers (PBR and Yuengling Lager. Depends on my mood.), but that ale is nasty. It tastes like they botched a batch of Yuengling, but didn’t want to throw it away. ~Ken

M

@snuffmoose I missed out on the Mikkeler single Hop series :-…( Could go for anything with a shedload of Cascades right now, though.

M

City Brewery in La Crosse Wi. Used to be the old Heilemans. Were still home to the worlds largest six-pack, and downtown stinks of stale beer anytime the wind is blowing north. Today and tonight, soda, coffee, water, but nothing with a kick.

B

AllanH, eat your heart out

A

Well, I did!

S

Just finishing up a 40 of Colt 45. Then, it’s to the PBR. Already a good friday night. ~Ken

A

Beamish with Middleton chaser, the best you can get in Ireland.

T

Earl Grey and Creme de Menthe over ice.

S

drank a young’s chocolate in the widget can (we don’t have it in spain so i was interested to try it in moscow) with a noseful of ozona cherry, something else i can’t get in spain though it’s not my favorite snuff @allan: i used to love beamish before scottish newcastle destroyed it when they moved export production to the kronenburg factory. i assume your beamish is still made in cork.

M

After reading the above post, I’m thinking Youngs Double Chocolate Stout for tonight. Yum.

T

ROFO KA! Royal Farms branded awesome energy drink.

P

Kuya Fusion Rum Made by Khlua Company." A fusion of imported rums, with natural spices, citrus and other flavors." Bottle is almost empty and i fear its been discontinued due to it being severly discounted at the bottle shop. Perchance they have one more.

R

Michelob light …was on sale…lol

J

Anthony85: I like Jameson. I know a lot of people that find it disgusting, but I rather enjoy it.

G

maybe some single barrel jack daniels oder some makers mark. will see.

S

Last night I had a glass of Jameson, a glass of Tullamore Dew, and about 5 PBR’s. It was a good night. ~Ken

M

Love Jameson’s! Great for when I like a bit of Whisky, but don’t like making “that face” after every sip.

K

Laphroaig 10yr old, straight.

T

I am enjoying Mexican Coca-Cola with Crown Royal.

T

Double shot of Crown Royal and single shot of Disarano over ice. I might add ad.d a shot of cranberry for the infamous Red Snapper on the next drink (or I may fall asleep, aka pass out, a very happy man, and you may not hear from me untill tomorrow).

T

Ok I had my second drink of the Red Snapper with a couple dashes of bitters. I am very satisfied, and think that this is a exelent drink.

M

More Happy Camper IPA from Santa Fe Brewing. A local microbrewery that seems to be improving on a daily basis.

M

Fat Tire, once again.

B

A few glasses of 10-year-old Ledaig malt. The local supermarket was selling their remaining stock off at half price today, couldn’t resist. Not quite as tasty as Laphroig but similar enough to be very enjoyable.

M

Youngs Double Chocolate Stout…“Pure Luxury”… Some FireBall cinnamon whiskey on the side.

T

Stella Atoris and maybe some Coke Zero and Crown Royal.

G

knob creek again.

S

Already had some Labatt Blue and some Fort Garry at work, so think i might polish off the rest of my El Capitan Spiced and pick up some Jackie D…possibly some Dragon Stout and some sort of crazy cinnamon whiskey my friend was talking about

S

mcguyver75: Chocolate Stout…“Pure Luxury”… Some FireBall cinnamon whiskey on the side THANK YOU Mcguyver75, I couldn’t remember for the life what it was called until I Scrolled up and saw your post… AWESOME!!!

W

Bugger all. I’ve got gout yet again 4th time this year ffs! I’m not a happy chappy. Stefan

A

It’s Bank Holiday weekend, so I’m getting hammered with Beamish and Tuborg. Lovely!

G

woodford reserve. disappointing.

X

rooibos

S

Went out and bought a shot glass checkers game from a thrift store. Played a game with my cousin in law last night. My glasses were filled with Tullamore Dew. I won the game…and immediately blacked out afterwards. Ha. Had alot more to drink aside from that, though. Couple glasses of Tullamore Dew and a half dozen or so PBR’s. Went out for pizza tonight, and got 3 mugs of Yuengling. Not I’m onto the PBR. ~Ken

P

SuperDew- vodka and Mnt. Dew

M

Just plain cheap Vodka.

S

Laphroaig 10 YO I’m fortunate to prefer the younger single malts I just like the bite and it does save a little $

M

Livin’ the Miller High Life!

S

Copious amounts of Earl Grey. Yum.

S

Johnny Walker tonight for me.

T

I wanna try some Four Loco.

M

Don’t forget to mix it with vodka and funnel it in rapidly!

M

I had a professor go off for about ten minutes in class yesterday, apparently some kids drank a crap load of that Loco in Denver and got copiously ill, or something, and he was evidently upset about it. IDK, I drink water, and sometimes tea.

T

If mary jane was legal, I don’t think people would care to stretch what they could from legal sources.

T

Funny your mentioning Four Loco… I am planning on having vodka and Rockstar while playing a marathon of Fallout New Vegas tonight. Four Loco has been getting a lot of bad press lately, but it is not nearly as strong as drinks that people make when mixing their own alcohol and energy drinks.

M

You’re right. I used to pour a mean Vodka + Sobe for $2.00. Tonight I think maybe water, or something girly that I can chug like Mike’s Cranberry which is actually made a few miles away.

B

Warm Finlandia, straight. If I knew I would be drinking tonight, I’d certainly put it in the fridge.

J

Probably a Mint Julep or two with copious amounts of Original and Genuine as well. Whiskey will be Crown Royal if anyone’s familiar with it

M

I believe Crown Royal is a favorite of “thatjerk” or “nineinchnails”, it’s certainly my favorite whiskey, so smooth.

S

Real Dutch Oranjeboom. While in the company of the widow of my late friend, a surprise visit from NL. I must brush up on my Nederlands!

S

@snuffhead: Oranjeboombier is orginally the beer from Rotterdam! If you go there I’ll be glad to welcome you in the mill. Jaap Bes.

M

Shiner Bock out of Shiner TX. I usually reserve bock’s for around Pascha but what the hell?

P

PBR mixed w/bloody mary.

M

In S.D. they call it a “Red Beer” or “Red eye”, very good early in the morning with a little extra salt!

T

I got a bottle of some Bloody Mary mixer today.

T

An Old-Fashioned or four…

M

2 parts regular Crown Royal + 1 part Fireball. Only a couple shots though. Good home mix!

W

Still sod all as my gout still hasn’t gone :-(. Stefan

B

Glad someone likes old-fashioned. Many you guys are makeing me want to drink more. Step one deciede to become a mild alchoolic, step two make money, step three enjoy. Sadly water maybe some soda it’s a budget issue not a issue of desire.

A

Beamish, Smithwick’s and Tuborg.

S

@ snuffmiller, many thanks for that offer Jaap. If I do manage to make it over to Rotterdam, I’ll look you up for sure.

M

Lion Stout from Sri Lanka… I love stouts and IPA’s, this is in the top ten. Also, some straight FireBall on the side. After my 5 hours at the E.R. with my dad today, I just think I had too much too fast. I’ll be ok in a couple hours, and really didn’t have that much, but I havn’t even drank to a buzz since June… untill now. Suprised I haven’t “trolled” off and completely gone off the deep end. Now, to bed… I’m one shot away from telling you all I love you!

M

Wow, I already commented. First time since June I’ve been buzzed. I gotta lay down,… I think the fiance is waiting anyway…

L

Oh, let’s see. I love rauchbier, but rarely have the opportunity to imbibe. Otherwise, I enjoy wheat beers, stouts, and porters; especially Czech and Belgian beers. I love Lambic for dessert (and think it goes quite well with snuff) or to enjoy alone. Trying to get into port, otherwise enjoy merlot and cabernet. Can’t seem to get into shiraz too much. For liquor, I love a Campari and club, or a gin and tonic (particularly Hendrick’s or Bombay Sapphire) when it’s hot out. Grey Goose and club, too. Pimm’s and lemonade for summertime. In the winter, or when it gets chilly, mulled wine and home-made chai tea are my favorites. Black coffee’s another love, particularly freshly-ground medium roast from the French press. It’s rare I drink it anymore, now that I’m not in classes. One of my greatest pleasures. EDIT: I didn’t even answer the question! Tonight? Diverging from all the above-listed, and am brewing some Russian caravan tea (kind of fruity) with some hibiscus flowers. And honey. It’s a chilly night, and perfect for a large mug of autumnal tea, a good book, and a loyal dog at one’s feet.

M

If the finances allow, some more Negra Modelo. I’ve always liked this Beer, but the last six pack I bought was a real revelation. Don’t know if it was exceptionally fresh or if they’ve changed the recipe, but it almost tasted like Porter. It also felt like the Alcohol was a little less in it than usual.

T

I’m gonna make some bloody marys later.

G

knob creek. best bourbon i had so far.

A

I’m trying to cope without drinks tonight eventhough it’s killing me. Might get a sixpack later. So coffee with chocolate now.

S

S

12 year Glenfiddich, been meaning to buy some of the older stuff. I need to broaden my Scotch selection, I quite like Glenlivet and Laphoraig (thought it’s been a while since I had the latter), any suggestions?

X

@ Spam: try this: The Singleton I had a bottle not long ago that I’d been sitting on a few years. Very fine. I intend to get it again.

M

Another New Belgium seasonal. 2 Below Ale. @Snuff Head A bit of Kendal Snuff with that Cumberland Ale sounds like a good pairing.

S

@ Mr_Snuffypants, that was the plan; some KB, C.M. & Sea Breezes. They are all of a good mix with that beer. I didn’t drink that many, I supped far to many Dutch beer the night before.

P

Enjoying some Frangelico.

B

Snuffhead, something about “thirst quenching golden ale from the lake district” made me thirsty when I read it

R

Bud Light!

S

Trader Joe’s Vienna Lager

P

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

S

@ Bart, It’s very good. Should be drinking it tonight while taking snuff with ermtony in the St John’s.

A

Finnish stout called ‘Helsinki Porter’, which good but overpriced at 6 euros a pint. Anyway, I’ll keep it local even though guinness, Beamish and Murphy’s are available here in Helsinki, latter ones better than in Dublin.

B

G. Schneider & Sohn Hefe-Weizen

G

picked up some buffalo trace bourbon, will try that now.

P

Caribou Lou, not really agreeing w/me thou.

S

last year’s Anchor Christmas with Toque Christmas Pudding. nice.

M

Sadly a couple of N/A energy drinks and water as I have court tomorrow.

S

Coffee until lunch / tea after. Sometimes the odd yerba mate tea too extra strong to give me a nice theanine buzz.

P

Steel Reserve, high gravity lager-Ice Cold. Ice cold being the only way to consume such an awful brew.

M

Two low quality MGD 64’s as I’m enough of a lard-ass. Two shots of fireball, and one 25.4oz can of Fosters as I havn’t had one in years! It’s nice to be legal in my drinking now and not have to sneak around!!!

M

Kilt LIfter Ale from the brew/pub. Microbrews got some great names.

S

Just had another strong yerba mate tea with milk and sugar. This theanine beverage is one stimulant that works exceedingly well with snuff. Much different to the stimulant qualities of tea and coffee. Probably best if you do it on an evening when you don’t have to wake up so early the next day!

M

Maybe I’ll go pick up six pack of PBR “Tall boy’s”,… I’ll raid my neighbors fridge firstl Maybe some Guiness too, to make some black and bluse’s.

J

Coffee tonight, but had a tall cold Motor City Ghetto Blaster (English mild ale) yesterday after spending the day up in the attic insulating…

M

Dry week as we have custody of the children every other. I’m thinking of a lot of tea this week. I prefer mine iced.

A

Redbreast 12 years old and Beamish just to refute rumours about our bankrupcy.

M

JD over ice. I know its more of a mixer drink, but I just love sippin it!

S

No yerba mate for me tonight as have to be up at a savoury hour. Just a regular tea and a brazilian cigar with the remanants of Fribourg and Treyer Seville up me snout for the moment

M

Whats the Brazilian cigar you have SleepWalker?

S

Alas Mopey just a cheapie dry-cured one i’m afraid - nothing to opulent for me…

M

Cheap Canadian ‘Black Velvet’ whiskey and coke! The next best thing to Crown Royal only $15 bucks for a 1.75!

K

N

Captain Morgans dark rum and coke

J

Gin and tonic with a side of jaeger bombs

A

Hot port.

J

Prolly nothing still havnt slept since my last comment on this thread

A

Tuborg Grøn brewed in Dublin. This is better than the original.

K

Just had a fantastic bottle conditioned ale, Seven Giraffes or something. As my thermometer is telling me it is -5 outside, I think another mug of Borvril is called for before I go to bed!

P

Mezcal shots due to Wensday being my Friday.

O

Beer. A “Spezial Bier” sold here in Switzerland, called Grafenwalder. It’s 60rappen a tin (about 30p uk), or otherwise known as cheap as chips, but its very drinkable and quite strong at 5.4% vol. As it’s my 41st today, I shall be drowning my sorrows in lots and lots of this cheap but pleasant brew (already started in fact).

J

Just a couple of bud lights tonight

S

Lavazza coffee, made in my De Longhi.

A

Beamish stout.

D

Why wait until tonight? I just cracked a nice amber ale from New Belgium, Fat Tire. Tasty!

D

Hey OscarWabbit, happy belated birthday! But at only 41 I wouldn’t think I’d be feeling too sorrowful just yet. Wait until you really start getting old…Yikes! Not for the faint of heart.

A

I’m getting hammered for no reason at all, so it’ll be Paddy and Bushmills with Beamish and Smithwick’s.

P

Dewar’s White label and soda. I’am adding just the smallest dash of habanero sauce and really enjoying the results.

G

bourbon. will have my usual rotation, four roses, buffalo trace, makers mark.

B

Sorry about that Micheltn I borrowed your liver and I promise I’ll get it back to you as soon as I find it, it’s in one of these piles of junk somewhere around here. Oh wait I’am even more sorry I just realized why that pate tasted funny.

B

Kunugaa where did you get that image. I need to share that with some people.

O

@ddavelarsen Thanks mate. Cheap beer for me tonight.

W

I’ve got 4 cans of Stones’s Bitter to have tonight. Can’t drink a lot as I’ve got a dodgy belly at the minute. Stefan

Z

4 cans isn’t ‘a lot’ for you… !!! For me, it’s going to be a couple bottles of Sam Adam’s Winter Lager.

B

I don’t know what’s on special is the question.

W

Lol Z-2K. 4 cans is a wake up call mate lol. Stefan

M

A bottle of Kentish Ale at the moment, lovely stuff.

B

Shiner HefeWeizen

T

Mt. Dew. Why? Alcohol is disgusting! Last time I drank any was Bombay Saphire, and my God it reminded me of Pinesol. YUCK! Pretty much ruined alcky for me altogether- I never was much of a fan anyways so no major loss. I’d rather legalize a certain herb and save/improve lives than hinder/endanger them. This place would be so much better. Snuff it up!

M

Ah come on now Transistor. Alcohol has its place. The history of civilisation, for good and for bad, is steeped in a bath of gin and swathed in tobacco smoke. By the way. Bombay Sapphire and tonic with a slice of cucumber on a summer afternoon? Nothing like it.

T

for good YES, (and those who can enjoy RESPONSIBLY) but I can totally do without the bad. lol! Steeped in gin, swathed in tobacco smoke, and you forgot “bagged in hemp”

R

Several bud light…to be followed shortly by some Black Label…Off for the holidays tonight!

T

Jagermeister!

J

@Mopey: Ahh Bombay Sapphire, that’s my favorite there…

P

@Thomas25- i have had a 375ml of Jager “aging” in my icebox for months, just have not gotten the stones to open it b/c then it will be gone. Miller High Life, really awful, just wanted a change from Pabst Blue Ribbon.

T

I have the same problem. It disappears quickly. But, I’ve found that the easiest fix is to buy more.

G

Bakers Bourbon. Got it for christmas, really digging it.

W

Morgan’s Spiced Rum for me this Christmas night. Stefan

J

I think just a glass of seven and seven tonight. Mmmmm tasty…

W

A recently finished batch of Barley wine. 12 per cent. One glass makes me very happy, it is the champagne yeast that does it.

B

Shiner Bock

T

I don’t plan on drinking at all tonight. I feel like crap pretty much all the time, and one new years thingy I want to do is get my health in order.

S

No alcohol… just had a yerba mate and i’m enjoying the effects. Might make an expresso with hot milk with Lavazza coffee.

A

14 pints of lager, anything will do.

T

Right now I’m drinking some Woodford Reserve on the rocks and smoking a Rocky Patel Vintage 1999. Good stuff.

P

Four Loko Orange. Probably my last due to irresonsible children.

T

Probably a Vitamin Water or some Milk. lol I have a history of addiction so I have to steer clear of drugs and alcohol. If I have a drink I never go over a slight buzz MAYBE once a month or so.

K

I’ve had a couple of glasses of a nice French red and about 3 or 4 pints of water…I love my water.

P

water

J

Shot of Sobieski vodka to end a busy day. I like Sobieski vodka, ol’ Jan III and I share a surname…

S

Old Speckled Hen. An unusual name for a splendid beverage… At the pub I had Ruddles.

S

Had a Piel’s to start off the night, and several PBR’s thereafter. Just another monday night. ~Ken

B

absinthe. You know what I thought booze was good now I know it’s just like absinthe but not as good. Seriously if you drink and haven’t tried absinthe you must. It’s very quite incredible.
