It’s been a favourite of mine since the beginning, but the name offers no clue as to what’s in it but I’m guessing honey, vanilla, and some fruit type scent? I’ve seen people’s guesses before but they’re ranging from chocolate to lemon to orange to citrus to hazlenut.

D

my guess would be some  tobacco and ?

B

pixie blood and bile. Or at least that’s the implication in the name. It’s either that or a very very sharp approximation.

@Roderick  you can back me up on this right?

N

Pixie blood? I always thought it was pixie tears

N

Its bad enough that he makes them cry but now hes bleeding the poor pixies.

B

pixies tears are blood.

T

Didn’t realize the mental institution let you guys use the computers

B

I was wondering where all my pixies were? Caged up at the toque factory.

D

has any one seen the toque fairy yet

N

@Theatre they don’t, we have to sneak out to the internet cafe down the street

B

Yo theatre we run asylum so of course we’d let ourselves use the computer duh.

A

Minced otter.

F

Bat guano with a sweet molasses topping

A

No, thats in Toque Original.

M

concentrated flounce.

S

essence of awesome

T

Troll juice must be in there too.

A

Tincture of Troll actually, c’mon get yer facts right.

T

It smells like Quit , I think it uses quit as the base. Other than that I wish I knew very bad. So creamy and almost berry/fruity almost like the smells in some of the more expensive rum. Almost like those vanilla cream flavored tootsie roll things in the white and blue wrapper

T

Haha! I hadn’t seen this thread before, because it was started before I joined the forum…what a hilarious thread…pixie blood and troll tincture…haha! :))

S

Deleted.

S

I get creamy vanilla ham sometimes! Whatever it is, its amazing.

_

It reminds me of the smell of an old-time candy store. Plus it has the strength that my nose likes. A quantity purchase for sure.

I thought my quit was contaminated by my spanish gem? My quit smells like a toned down version of Spanish Gem. Is this supposed to be?

N

Yes, Spanish Gem is just flavoured Quit (same with SP Extra)

L

spanish gem and pomegranate are very same for me. Very little difference is s. gem has a little bit menthol in it. Scents can not mixed in the package because quit has totally different scent.

T

Spanish Gem is all things to all snuffers.

L

my wife never uses snuff. She smelled it and said: is this pepermint snuff?

X

@lingquist you must have gotten a mislabeled tin. There is nothing like peppermint, menthol or pomegranate in Spanish Gem. Honey, vanilla, brandy is about it.

L

@Xander no problem i liked my tin i will add it to my next order to check it. But although it is very similar to pomegranate it is not completely the same.

X

Well, they’re both pretty sweet, I will say that. Pomegranate seems to me clearly fruity, mostly pomegranate presumably, with a hint of something citrus. I suppose there could be a touch of honey or something like the SG has to give it the sweetness, and might carry over to the flavor. Spanish Gem seems in the same vein as their Vanilla and Toffee, more of a creamy sweet. Both are ones I keep in bulk I love them so much.

K

I just smell Quik Chocolate Milk Powder with Spanish Gem, thats just me.

S

Chocolate honey and something to clog the nose.

S

Oh dear. Apologies for my previous comment which was harsh. I like Spanish Gem (enough to have it in bulk) just not as much as a lot of other folk. Some days I like it more than others and different days I get different aromas from it. It’s a strange snuff indeed. What’s in it? No idea. I get vanilla, chocolate, maybe a brandy, the quit base if its not very fresh. Too complex for my nose to know anything for sure.

I

The clue is in the Spanish part of the name, I think the flavor is supposed to be Cream Sherry a Spanish product and also as a nod to Spanish Jewel snuff, thus some Orris Root and Tonka bean as well.

J

I get mostly W&H with quit base instead of toast. I see a lot of his line as single scents, and a few two scent combinations. Bourbon is very similar to the bacon part of cheese and bacon. I may be too proletarian to imagine something like cream sherry in there.

L

God’s Farts and Angel queefs

J

I’ll have what he’s having!

F

I get cinnamon and some sort of candied fruit. Wolfs bane possibly, and fermented beaver tail. Very nice

W

Spanish Beaver?

C

:-?

I

Does anyone else get an almost and excuse me for saying this but a slight old sock smell from spanish gem its a very background flavor and I would say the promenent flavors are definatly honey but its so well blended that nothing really stands out it all just becomes one perfect little tin of joy lol roderick is a bit good at this snuff making lark

I

Thankyou roderick it certainly is one of my favs and since I started on my snuff experiance a mear 9 months ago I am yet to run out of this beautiful snuff . I have not tried the spanish jewel and doubt that I will ever get the pleasure as and I may be wrong but the maker is said to have died and not left his recipes with anyone . Also I have heard wispers about a snuff called spanish yellow is this just another name for the jewel or is it a stand alone snuff and if so do you know where I can get some from ? @roderick

M

Inluvwithtobacco, You have a good nose! The old noses on here will tell you that SG is a homage to ‘Spanish Jewel’. A snuff made by a Spanish courtesan snuff maker who soaked the leaves in Spanish brandy and by sweating them in the sun got an amazing snuff with a slightly sweaty under tone. We never did find out what else went into his snuff but I and some here were lucky enough to get a little. I used mine to try and copy, as best I could. I like to think I got close.

I’ve got to try that. Do you know if the leaves were sweat in a closed container or were they piled green and sprayed down with brandy to sweat them the way one would sweat tobacco for cigars?

F

Spanish Gem, to me, is a dynamic phenomenon unto itself. The complexity and balance of “flavors” is fantastic. It is a true masterpiece. Thank you for this one, Roderick. Can we have more snuffs with this level of complexity and balance, please?

J

It’s my favorite Toque. The volcano lady likes to sniff my nose after I’ve taken some snuff to give me her opinion about whatever I’ve taken. I asked her for her “review” of Spanish Gem the other night, her guess was vanilla and chocolate.

I

I’m wondering if you were to get some dryed whole leaf tobacco and mixed some brandy , honey and vanilla in a spray bottle spray iit on the leaves and let them sweat in the sun as roderick said would that turn in to a good snuff because I think that wouod have the makings of a good snuff ? But I may have got it all wrong just throwing it out there I woud think it woupd work best with burley and prehaps a touch of viginia to complement the honey sweetness ? What you guys think ?

I

Always add in some rustica if you want to pep up the vit n content

A

Reading this post, I cannot wait to get my order. Thanks to y’all I added SG to my first order from Toque. Really looking forward to trying out pixie…uhm…stuff…and fermented beaver tail. Just kinda wondering about putting beaver tail in my nose…

H

Yeah, reading this thread again has caused me to add it to my cart as well for my order next week lol

G

Dunno what exactly is in it, BUT I have a sneaking suspicion there must be some sweat from circa '60’s Joan Collins (my all time babe) thighs

X

I believe you meant to say '60s Raquel Welch :x

G

@Xander close, close… but Joan floats my boat to the ceiling in Tales From the Crypt… where she’s running from the demented Santa after cleaving her husband’s head in half---- something about evil chicks has always done it for me— especially those wicked brit-nettes

X

I was thinking more about Raquel after being chased by dinosaurs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Raquel\\_Welch\\_in\\_deer-skin\\_bikini.jpg

G

@Xander Agreed-- but I think that:

G

@Xander final comment on the battle of the babes-- I can perceive a SLIGHT aroma of Welch in there as well— so it becomes evident that Roderick and crew blended the sweat from Joan’s thighs with that of Raquel’s neck BINGO-- knew we’d figure it out

X

lol And you shouldn’t show me that picture. It makes me want to smoke, not snuff!

I

Spanish Gem is what’s for breakfast today…friggen awesome… that is all

N

Spanish Beaver?

Not gonna pick that one up, no sir. Just leaving right there… Now, having said that, I need to branch out, and I like the descriptions in here, so this goes on the list for the next purchase.
