Well, it’s not Grousemoor - what have I got?!

H

I had a tapbox of SG Grousemoor - it was quite fresh and still moist when I got it, and it had a lovely ‘green’ scent - heathery, almost sherberty in the nose. As there’s not much left I ordered a 25G tin of it, and while it’s SG’s usual lovely grind the scent is totally different! What has arrived seems to be predominantly rose-like in the nose, delicious but nevertheless totally different. I tried a little of what’s left in the tap box, and the scents bear no resemblance to each other. I’ve not got a problem with that as I love the scent of whatever is in the tin, but a problem will arise when the tin is finished as I won’t know what to order when I need some more! Assuming I’m right and it isn’t Grousemoor (and please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong on that) can anybody tell me what this might be?

C

I would agree with the green scent for Grousemoor - I always describe it as the aroma of a wet day in the countryside. I certainly never got rose from it but then I have no idea what scents are in it - whatever they are they seem to intermingle to create a whole new aroma! Since I thoroughly enjoy Grousemoor I am intrigued as to whether SG have changed their recipe or if you have a mis-labelled tin. Hopefully all will be revealed.

H

Well Mrs Pufnsnuff had a sniff of the tin and the tapbox (she doesn’t partake so I prised the side off the box) and she couldn’t smell anything that connected the two scents whatsoever.

D

Could it be the 25g tin is just fresh and held the scent and the tap box is dried out some or lost its scent. I haven’t tried this one yet so I can’t say what the scent should be.

R

gotta agree with @distaind‌ snuff in tin can be VERY different to tap boxes.

H

No, when I got the tap box is was quite fresh and moist, and the flavour hasn’t changed since then. There’s absolutely no hint of rose in there, but the tin is definitely a rose scent, a sort of ‘pink’ smell, nothing like the green tones of the tapbox, or the Grousemoor Chris refers to. I know it’s not Celtic Talisman, I’ve got that and that’s more cherries. A lady friend of mine smelled the tin the other day and said it smelled like Turkish Delight… :-/ (Is that a scratch-head smiley? I can’t see these chubby little buggers very well…)

C

@HR_pufnsnuff Now I am really intrigued. The aroma of Turkish delight is about as far away from the Grousemoor I have as I can imagine. Maybe you should take a sample from the new tin and post it to SG and ask them what it is.

T

Sounds like a terrible problem, and you do not need this stress in your life. Send them both to me, and move along

Wallflower?

Sorry for wandering off for a bit, I’ve been on holiday. I think I know what it is. Just before I went I placed and received another order at SnuffStore, and one of the things I ordered was SG Princes Dark. Having tried it over the last few weeks I think what’s in my tin of (non) Grousemoor is Princes Gold. Allowing for the dark base in the Princes Dark the scent is very similar, and as I might not’ve got round to trying the Gold version I’m happy I got the mislabelled tin, cos it’s lovely! Now, how do I go about getting some Grousemoor that really is Grousemoor, that’s the question… :))
