My wife got this for me for x-mas. Ultimate storage. I have 120 snuffs, many snuff boxes, snuff spoons and hankies and have tons of room left. I was pretty sick of digging through my cardboard box. The snuffs at the bottom were rarely accessed. Problem solved. Now it’s a pleasure to choose a snuff. To give you an idea of some of the storage combinations possible---- The large drawers could hold: 36 - 1.15oz American tins 24 - 25g Wilson’s/Tranter’s tins 20 - 25g Toque tins (could be double stacked to hold 40 tins) The small drawers could hold: 20 - 10g tins 30 - 5g smash boxes 30 - 5g tins (could be double stacked to hold 60 tins) Step up to the snuff bar and have a pinch on me!
That is one hell of a set up Patrick, wish I had something like that. Stefan
Yeah very nice!
Shouldn’t we be measuring capacity in terms of OFTR snuff boxes>? Seriously Patrick, that’s an awesome piece of kit! It also looks like you have the twin of my shamrock decorated hinged lid wooden snuff box in there!
SWEET! Tom
Perfect snuffers accessory, too bad I’d have to sleep with the dogs if I came home with that anytime soon.
I don’t see much that makes me jealous but that is one hell of a beauty, I would love that. Tony, we nmust all have one of those!
very nice its a super jumbo and much nicer setup similar to mine (i have a used jewelrybox type set of drawers that i got from goodwill)
Yes, it’s a masterpiece, wish I had something like that. Glad to see you have one of my favourites, Robby’s Top Mint, in stock!! Happy New Year!! Regards Pieter J Claassen (PJC)
Holy hell, that’s insanely cool!
This is the way to go. I’m planning on having a snuff desk. Good luck keeping things in order.
That is one of the coolest snuff setups I have seen. Any websites you can suggest that carry it? I would be curious to check one out. If you could let me know, I would appreciate it. Thanks! ~Snuffy
Patrick, where are you going to keep your snuff bar? At present I keep my everyday snuffs in airtight plastic boxes in the bottom drawer of a steel cabinet. It’s nice and cool there. Rest of my stuff is in the freezer. I’m now fitting out an office at home and I was thinking to incorporate a snuffstorage “cupboard” while I’m at it. But the temperature in my office is quite high in summer as I’m not using a aircon. I’m worried that the high temp will effect my snuffs badly. (Oh, the Manjul is sitting real nice in my nose now!) Any suggestions to help me sort this out would be appreciated. Cheers Pieter
Fantastic storage setup and a brilliant example of the law of karma at work, you deserve it, may it bring you much pleasure.
That is unbelievably cool!
Really nice Onefortheroad. Certainly would like one of those.
Pieter, It just dawned on me that where I plan my desk will have the same problem. The room gets quite warm in the day. I would hate to use electricity just to have the snuff there. I’m now thinking in terms of insulation. Like an insulated drawer or a small cooler. I would really like some kind of earthenware like stone or clay. Space may become an issue. So it seems I will resign to not keeping my entire collection there. Good luck to us!
Juxtaposer, if you think of a solution, please let me know, I will do the same. But, I think the biggest problem is our snuff collections…it’s to big for the available space!!! So easy to solve the problem, just reduce your stock! hehehehe!!!
That might be the coolest thing I have ever seen. I’ve been planning to build something similar for a while. One of these years I’ll get around to it.
I’m really enjoying the set up. In response to some questions and comments: Presently I’m keeping it in my bedroom. Eventually it will be in the basement but right now we’re remodeling. It’s near a window but it’s a north facing window and there’s nothing but shade out that window all year due to pine trees and bushes a few feet away. I’m not too worried about temperature/humidity fluctuations as we try to keep it steady year round. 67-73 degrees and 50% humidity. I’m not against a humidor but it would have to be a very large one with many shelves/drawers and I haven’t seen one I could afford. Maybe if I get the deal of the century I’d buy one. I’m also not really focused on long time storage. I just want to have variety at my fingertips. If I had a quantity of something really special I’d probably just get some really good airtight containers and tuck them away somewhere safe. I think that with airtight containers and steady temps snuff should last a lifetime. I’d only resort to the freezer or humidor if I had no AC or humidity control. At this point anything I have doubles of it’s because I’ll use it soon. I remember someone talking about retaping the wilson’s type tins and that seems like a good idea if you’re not going to dig in for a while, other than that I’ll take my chances. I too have thought about making a custom storage center and even have a really nice one designed after a nice antique I saw once. Would be very nice as it will look like a nice piece of furniture rather than a tool box. Problem is devoting the time and would still cost hundreds in materials. This one looks like a gerstner but is by no means a gerstner. The closest gerstner to this costs just under $1000. This one is “made in china” particle board and veneers and runs $90. You won’t find particleboard on a gerstner but it looks like it will last a long time nonetheless. Here’s an ebay link@lxskllr- I like them all! Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go to the bar and select a snuff
I just found onefortheroad’s “Snuff Bar” on the Sportsman’s Guide website for $99. You can purchase an optional locking base for an additional $89. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?p=WX2&i=163923 I am going to shop around, but I may pull the trigger on this one very soon.
@lincolnsnuff Thanks so much dude’ my wife been looking for me one too, now you found it, i cant to show her!
I’m even going to get the base and stack them. The base has a flip down lockable panel that reveals more drawers, them there will be perfect for my knife collection so the youngins won’t get into them. PERFECT! Great Find lincolnsnuff, I owe you one! lol
I have mine on its way (top and bottom base). Thanks to my lovely wife!
@thehookster: No problem. I really like this idea for storing/organizing snuff and snuff accessories. I have too many tins just laying around on my coffee table, desk, in desk drawers, etc. This way, I can keep them all in a central location and have what appears to be an attractive piece of furniture as well. I just started experimenting with pipe smoking and I could dedicate some storage space in this unit for that also. I am waffling on whether I should purchase the base. I like the idea of having the full set, but I don’t have any kids or items that need to be locked away. I will probably end up buying the base for potential future expansion. Stacked, the set would measure 25.25 in. x 11.5 in x 27.5 in h. which really isn’t very big at all. Heads up - if you join Sportsman’s Guide Buyer’s Club for $29.99, you will save $19 on the furniture, $5 on ground shipping, and receive 2 $10 coupons for use on future orders.
Be sure to check out ebay also. Mine was also from sportsman’s guide, but from their ebay store. Last year the price was $79 for the top unit and I think I got free shipping too. Search for tool boxes and collectors chests and you might find some other deals. Some claim to be all hardwoods, and in the $80 range. I’d ask to be sure. The sportsman’s guide one like mine is from China and has plenty of particle board but I have to say I have had no problems. Doesn’t get abused since it’s indoors and just for snuff and snuff boxes. I think I’m ready for the bottom unit too since I’m almost out of room. You guys will love these units. I haven’t seen anything that looked better for keeping all those snuffs together and organized. Especially for such a low price.
Ha! I have that exact same top unit, have for years, except my brother gave it to me to use as a nightstand! Hmmm, maybe when my snuff collection outgrows its current cigar box…
GerstnerThese are nice.
Mine will be a gerstner when I win the lottery. I was thinking about making one when I found mine for $79. It would have cost much more just for the wood to make a custom one. Though the quality would be much better and I would have made it look like furniture, not a tool box, I just don’t have the spare change right now.
me niether. I just think they are nice.
