So, I’ve been crushed over the last week as I was informed that my local tobacco shop was no longer going to carry Silver Dollar. I wrote them a letter through their website contact form today expressing my sadness in the loss of such a wonderful product, and I let them know that as the only carrier of snuff in town, my only outlet for snuff was now importing. I gave them a quick explanation about how dry snuffs (it’s what they call it in my area) doesn’t expire like dip does, and long-term stocking of it doesn’t affect quality. Right as I was about to sit down to dinner, my phone rang and it was the manager of the tobacco shop. He had ordered SD by accident, thinking it was a new kind of dip, and had never really heard of nasal snuff before. He did some homework on the internet and is entirely fascinated by the concept. Since it doesn’t expire, and it doesn’t take up much shelf space, he has decided to make it a permanent product! He told me that it sold faster than any box of cigars or pipe tobacco he’s ever stocked, and the margin was better, so he didn’t see a good reason to stop carrying it. He’s not sure about expanding his inventory at this point, but he’s a believer in Silver Dollar. I am SO happy that I can buy snuff in my town, even if it is only one brand. In my opinion, SD is a wonderful offering, and I have used it every day since I found it a few months ago. The new shipment comes in on Wednesday, which is awesome because I’m down to just a couple pinches left in my stash. I don’t know how such a thing would work out for any of you, but I’m sure glad I spoke up and said something. The manager also thanked me profusely for getting in touch with him, as he had no idea there was a demand for such a different product in my area. Score one for the snuff guys!
Congrats to you and also for helping the cause!!
I should see if my local cigar shop would be able to place an order for me. I really love the SD spearmint. I’ve started turning friends onto snuff as well, trying to get them to lose the cigarettes.
Nice to know that your tobacconist is listening to his clientele. I suggested to my shop that they carry icetools for the General they sell. I explained how it worked and what it was and the shop manager made the call to Icetool and they are supposed to be carrying it soon. Unfortunately they no longer stock Tom Buck or any snuff other than silver dollar, and a couple Conwood scotches. Anyways I think silver dollar is a nice snuff but it’s expensive at 3.50 for a 5 gram tin. I’ve tried the natural.
Credit for this accomplishment goes to Roderick of Toque. He worked hard wading through the red tape and bureaucracy that now prevents most snuffs from being sold across the counter in the United States. It’s most upsetting that he has spent so much attention to this end that he has put the creativity of his snuff making on the back burner. The funny thing is that I would like to try the Spearmint but I cannot find it available anywhere online.
Juxtaposer, PM me with your postal address, I have a container about 3/4 full that you can have.
Thanks Dogwalla, we should put you on commission.
You deserve a decoration for ‘Services to Snuffers’.
lol…I’m just glad it worked. I may start a similar campaign at other tobacco shops in my area. I’m all about selection!
I wish I could get someone to carry it in my area - I’d buy it just as a show of support (even though I’m well stocked at the present).
Yes it’s nice to see it available in stores around here. It could easily be a snuff favorite of mine if I could find it in larger sizes. But no doubt I’ll be returning to try the other SD offerings
It’s pricey in my area, and I don’t think the small tins help that. US $3.59 per 5oz tin, and I will be buying 6 when arrive tomorrow. I wish this stuff wasn’t so damn good.
Man, I wish they sold 5oz tins near me.
Lol…whoops! 5 grams…yeah, I wasn’t even close enough to fake it on that one.
a 5oz of SD would be heavenly
Especially for $3.59 a pop. I’d probably find I could force my nose to love even the mentholated ones at that price.
why at less then a buck an ounce you could make money buying it repackaging and selling it half a the typical snuff price, I always thought roderick didn’t like money.
