WE Garrett Revisited

L

My first encounter with WE Garrett, was their sweet and mild. This was when I still had my Ozona training wheels on. I pinched this horrid powder until my next order of Ozona Raspberry arrived, and promptly threw the WE Garrett away. Now that my training wheels are off, and I’ve learned now to sniff properly, I went back and got another can of the Sweet and Mild. This stuff is great!!! It’s a fine, dry, sweet snuff that I now cannot get enough of. Plus it’s got that unique scent that takes me back to a different time and place. (I was single, living in a dump, and partying every night without a care in the world back then. Now I’m married, got a nice house, a good job, and have settled down a bit.) I recommend this and their Scotch, to every snuffer with some experience under their belt. As a bonus for me, every pinch lets me reminisce, even if it’s just for a minute or two. Then I realize how much better life is now, and partying wasn’t everything in life.

S

Garret Sweet Scotch was my first ever snuff experience. I actually tried a can several years back thinking it was oral tobacco. It turned into horrid mud in my mouth so I likewise tossed it out. Then someone re-introduced me to it and gave me a can. I actually sniffed a bit and gradually developed a liking for the experience. Tho I have to say, it was a harsh way to begin snuffing, this stuff is hard core and probably not the best for beginners. Its practically the only thing on the shelves here where I live so there’s no shortage of it. Garret’s idea of sweet is not what you might picture, its very subtle and the snuff is very stout and strong with a very fine and dry texture. Its an acquired taste in my opinion but once you get used to it its a unique and unforgettable experience. I no longer take it straight but use it for mixing.

N

I don’t like Sweet & Mild as much on its own, but mixed 50/50 with Toque W&H it is quite good.

J

Funny how many people started on this accidentally stumbling on it one way or another. (im one of them)

L

Recently I made my own mix with WE Garrett Scotch. I added some cloves, cinnamon, mace, and ginger, then added some blue curacao for moisture. It’s like Bespoke’s Christmas Joy, and the Scotch adds the smell of a fireplace.

S

I was probably 12 or 13 when I found out W.E. Garrett wasn’t made just for horses. My grandpa always kept a tin in the horse trailer. He would always spit on a twig or something and dip the end into the can. Then he would lure our skittish mare into the trailer by just letting her get a tiny taste at a time. I guess she liked it. I tried some later in high school and a few other times, but only as a dip. Now, I’m into snuff, but have never gone back and tried it nasally. Guess I’ll have to pick some up one of these days.

S

snuffegnugen, Sounds like your initiation into Garret as a dip is common amongst us Americans. I had the same experience and it took me several years to discover nasal snuff. Welcome to the society of nasal tobacco enthusiasts.

A

Delicious snuff indeed, you have some real unique snuff in the States and being ‘brought up’ on English and European snuffs I am really happy to have discovered them.

T

Haven’t tried the WE Garrett yet, but I will…sounds good.

T

I really didn’t appreciate the US snuffs till after I had many of the non-US snuffs. I still don’t think they are “as good”, but they hold their place for what they are.

A

Agreed, they certainly have a rougher edge but very enjoyable as a change.

C

Hi everyone. I’m new and been lurking, thought I’d get over my shyness and post here. WE Garret is all I can buy locally. It’s pretty intense for a newb like myself, but I’ve recently quit smoking, and I find it’s just the thing when I’m *really* jonesing for a smoke. I’ve been using the Sweet and Mild, I’ve been too chicken to try the other so far.

P

Welcome to THE forum Carol!! No need to be shy as nobody knows you or can see you!! Where do you live? I buy most of my snuff from online shops. Look at the left of your screen and you will find our favourite suppliers listed there. What they don’t stock is not worth buying, so they will fill all your needs. Regards Pieter

C

I live in Kansas, USA. Just now I placed an order with Toque. The hardest part was deciding what to get! I shamelessly panhandled Roderick for some samples, when he sent me chocolate I was won over! I made a recent order from MrSnuff, and they were quite nice as well. I never realized that quitting smoking could be so much fun!

P

Smoking never was any fun to me, only a habit. Snuffing is something totally different and being a member here makes snuffing a real nice hobby. If you read through all the posts you will see how nice everyone is, you will get sound advice and meet people from all over the globe. The fun really starts when you start trading snuff from places and people whom you’ve never heard of. I live in South Africa, near Cape Town and I know no other snuffers around here. So if I do not talk to the members here, I have no one to share with. So what I’m saying is, stick around, I know you will enjoy it. I take it that you are a lady and we have some more female members as well. So you can talk to them, in private if you like, and match up with them!! Just don’t go away!!

C

Well, I wouldn’t say I’m a lady, but I am female. Around here dipping and chewing is common. Brands like Red Man, Skoal, and Copenhagen. I’ve yet to meet another snuffer.

P

Some of our members do know each either personally and I envy them. I have a friend who takes a pinch with me whenever we see each other but he is still smoking. He’s been trying to quit for many years without success. One of my wife’s friends also takes a small pinch but her husband is against it. I’ve given her some snuff and she takes a pinch on the quiet, almost like smoking in the toilets while we were still at school!!

C

I was a smoker for 30+ years. Tried to quit many times, without luck. I had my last smoke on April 20, and I’m thinking with the help of snuff it will take this time.

S

Carol, I don’t know if you have tried snus yet, but it could also be a valuable aid to help you quit smoking as well. The portion snus is very discreet, you can hardly tell it’s there, it’s also clean and there is no need to spit. You could probably pick up Camel snus at your local loaf n jug to try, but it’s not near as good as the real swedish snus.

C

I just picked up a tin of the Camel Snus yesterday. It wasn’t too bad, I could see using it while driving or while out on my little motorbike.

G

You might also try the other snus, the swedish ones. They are really different and better in my opinion…

C

I picked up the Camel snus because I had a 2 dollar off coupon, and I figured it would be worth trying for cheap just to get the cool tin.

T

I found myself to not like snus at all. I did find the Camel too sweet, but then also I found many of the Swedish made plain terrible.

G

I found dipping the scotches quite bad, so to each his own

C

When I use the WE Garret orally, I use flavored toothpicks. I chew them a bit, dip them in the snuff, and then hold it under my tounge for a bit. I like it better that way than the lip way.

S

Talk about coincidences. I was just on this discussion last week talking about how people back home used WE Garrett orally, myself included a few times; but I have never taken a snort of it. Here is the funny part. I placed an order with Nicotine Rush last sunday for about 14 different things. While I didn’t order it, Tom sent me a free promo can of W.E. Garrett sweet and mild. I am so glad he did. I have been using this stuff pretty regular since then. One of my favorite things about this snuff is the sweet taste when it drains into the back of your throat. If you haven’t done this yet, I highly suggest it. Take a nice hit of a good strong menthol (McC O&G, JIP, Red Bull or SM 500 work well), then immediately follow it up with a small hit of WE sweet. You will be pleasantly surprised at the combination when the menthol gets the nose flowing and the sweet snuff mixes in.

L

Not too long ago I had a mix of American Sweets and menthol. I finally got tired of it today and needed an empty smash box, so the remainder went into my bag of Leman’s Folly (Iowan Jewel renamed) but it was a very good mix.

M

“Leman’s Folly” thats a great name. I call my jar “AllSorts”

E

My jar for dumping the odds and ends is labelled “The Mixture”. It really is quite a mixture in there.

L

I cannot take the credit for the name, bigblue1 takes the credit for that one.
