WE garrett and sons dry snuff

I stopped in a local smoke shop to see if they had any nasal snuff. They didn’t know, but I saw a small can that said we garrett dry snuff. I couldn’t find anything online about it. Is it for nasal use? Is it any good?

hey @Psicko, yes it’s definitely nasal snuff ( although some use orally too ).
It’s pretty regarded around here, especially if you like nicotine and smokiness!

Cool thanks for the reply. So far that’s the only snuff I could find locally. I’ll give it a go.

I too made a stop yesterday at a local tobacco store looking to see what snuff was available locally. They carried six different Silver Dollar scents and W.E. Garrett Scotch Snuff. Like you I had not hear much about the WE Garrett so i picked up a can, and a twist tin Silver Dollar “Natural”.

My newbie review for you:

In the can the aroma of WE Garrett reminds me of a smokehouse next to a highly chlorinated pool, a sweet smoky scent with a pungent chemical undertone. The grind is very fine and there’s no moisture to speak of, very similar to a Toast. To take a pinch of this you must be very gentle. Once in the nose the smoky aroma stands out, perhaps a smoker full of fish and not pork or red meat, there is thankfully very little of the chemical scent i detected in the tin. There’s a slight burn that seems to linger for some time. The nicotine is quite high in this one, enough that back-to-back pinches gave me a bit of head swirl. Overall this one is not a favorite for its scent but I will likely take a pinch when i’m craving some vitamin N.

Noisebox, thanks for the review. Not sure how that will compare to the dry toast, I’ll let you know. Also, how was that silver dollar natural?

@Psicko SD Natural is a straight plain, unadulterated tobacco scent. It’s a medium-fine grind as its got a slight amount of moisture. The nicotine is decent, a strong initial burn that fades quickly. The scent reminds me of a stack of drying tobacco leaves that are not quite dry enough to smoke yet. The unfortunate part is the scent fades away very quickly, within the first 2 minutes or so.

I have a can of each plain and sweet, I Prefer the plain over the sweet they sometime find there way into rotation but I have other scotches I like better.

If you don’t care for them they are good to experiment with by adding flavor or scents to. I used http://www.mccormick.com/Spices-and-Flavors/Extracts-and-Food-Colors/Extracts/Root-Beer-Concentrate and made an excelent snuff. I also scented scotch with fresh flower and herbs also citrus zest with great results. Or you can bump up the nicotine level in a weaker snuff by mixing some in. Also you can dilute a strongly scented snuff like those of F&T. There is no wasted snuff if you can think of ways to use it. snuff makes good bug insecticide and can soothe bug bites, bee stings and toothaches. If you use fubar bohica when you plant your flower bulbs it will stop rodents like squirrels and moles from devouring them.

What state are you in?

Sorry for the late delay. I totally forgot about this thread. It ended up being the sweet version. I bought it and tried it. Not a big fan of the sweet. Does the Mccormick stuff work well with the sweet?

I’m in Arizona by the way.

I wasn’t a big fan of WE Garrett Sweet at first, but somehow I find myself taking a few pinches of it every day.  Still not sure I consider myself a ‘fan’… but I keep coming back to it despite having 50+ other kinds to try!

Ok, I’ll give it some time. I just started snuffing a bit ago, all I’ve ever had before that is silver dollar snuff.

@basement_shaman…i have loads of we garrett regular that ive really been trying to flavour some other way,but everything i try still seems to hav that same smoky ancient tomb scent lingering in the background.tried various citrus zests but ended up a weird frankenstein flavour…im gonna try the rootbeer seems that would pair really well actually! Thx for sharing that.anything else you had great success with? Do i need to maybe air the stuff out for awhile to tone it down.i have so much of it and would really like to improve on it a lil.thx again!

@Chicago_CA Scotch are scorched and that’s the nature of the snuff. I have 40 yr old scotch that is still smoky. Think of thinks that are smokey that would pair nicely; like bacon . You could try greasing some to make a bacon Schmalzler. By volume 5% to 20%   Keep in mind that grease, glee and oils have a short shelf life and will turn or become rancid so only make small batches .storing in the fridge may extend the life.

Fresh picked mint leafs could be something to try. Or other herbs . Really oily coffee beans, Tonquin bean or Vanilla beans added direct and left in to meld. Also check out http://www.lorannoils.com/ for strong flavors that may entice you.   But yes, Frankenstein flavors are common because the tobacco has it’s own flavor and when it gets moist it comes out.

You have a favorite liqueur or cordial ,You could try them. Extracts or hydrosols, Essential oils by indirect contact.

You could visit your local tobacco store they may sell loose aromatic pipe tobacco you could place equal amounts in a closed container so it picks up the scent this may be something to try.

And we have http://snuffhouse.com/discussion/6682/snuffhouse-marketplace-members-please-post-your-buy-sell-trade-requests-here#latest . So you may want to trade some of the extra Garrett to someone.

 Best of luck to you.

@basement_shaman…what great info!! Thanks so much…still kinda new and learning the tricks for manipulating and customizing snuffs! They all seem to have their own personalities, which is one thing i like! I have some rather oily french roast whole bean coffee that im going to try out and also some pipe tobacco. Really hoping those two complementary “heavy scents” will do the trick. Dont get me wrong, the WEG is good, but for me, its just not an all day snuff for me…YET.thx again!

Quick update. What i did was mix the WEG and some Captain Black Blue(all i had on hand) together in a bag so everything was evenly distributed. Let it sit overnight.strained it with a fine strainer and…WOW! Just delicious! Lesson learned, dont try to fight the scent or make it into something its just never meant to be, but rather try to complement it and let the tobacco work naturally. Havent tried the other tricks yet,but really really enjoying this now…and not sure why but seems to pack even more of a punch now…maybe thats cuz im shoveling it in…made my head spin…thanks again @basement_shaman! Is there a thread somewhere you know of that has other mixing/modifications? Really a wealth of knowledge in this forum!

Found loads of topics about mixing. Should hav searched first before asking if there were more threads about it somewhere. Guess I was a lil worked up.sorry abt that… @-)

OK, so I have been reading some tips about snuffing dry fine snuffs. Ive gotten better at it. Now I like the Garrett sweet snuff.

I’m retracting my comments now. WE Garrett is a fine scotch in its own right. I’m not fussing over changing it at all! I find that its perfect exactly as it is if thats what im in the mood for. Same goes with WE Garrett Sweet. Its a fantastic Sweet Scotch if thats what youre in the mood for. Now Ive been feeling like a snuff purist recently and find that toasts are great for a toast mood, scotch when i want a scotch, medicated when i want those.they all have a niche in my collection and i appreciate it for how it was intended. Having said that, theres no harm in mixing at all. I guess i finally saw the value in each snuff.

I just took a pinch of each, garrett sweet and garrett regular out of remorse for my earlier comments. :)>-
