W. E. Garrett Sweet

This is sweeter than the other sweet snuffs from this company. I think it ranks about where Navy Sweet would in Swisher’s range on the sweetness scale. Its not quite over the top sweet as Tops or Honey Bee. The flavor of the tobacco is similar to the other Conwood snuffs and naturally most like its brother the W.E. Garrett Scotch. This though lacks most of the smokey notes of that one and its somewhat paler. The throat drip is pleasantly sweet, as mentioned before, but it takes getting used to. It seems a bit easier to use than the strong snuffs, but still dangerous for those not used to Scotches. I’m sure one tin will last me a lifetime. Historical note: The snuff’s origin lies on the Red Clay Creek in northern Delaware. Rating: 2/5 First Tried: April 2010 Style: Sweet Scotch Grind: fin (very fine) Moisture: dry Color: pale tan

This snuff is sweet, no doubt. I have not much to compare it too. I like this snuff well. It takes me back to when my dad kept horses… I find some similarities to swisher sweet cigars in the smell. The taste, to my nose is strongly reminiscent of horse feed, or maybe more the feed store I used to go in with my dad… Anyway, I love it, I find it’s a bit muddled or overlapping in the different sweet notes, but how could I not love it. *Edited

I’m on my second tin of this. I find it very pleasant, sweet, not a complex flavor, but a basic tobacco scent with only a bit of smokiness. As Xander noted, it has a very nice sweet throat drip. If it hits the back of the throat, it can make you cough, but afterwards that sweetness will remedy the situation. This is the only American Scotch available in my small Colorado town. I buy it at the local head shop, where the owner told me he ordered it some women house painters who can’t smoke on the job. At first pinch, I did not like it very much. But I kept on trying it, even mixing a little with some Super Chetak, which toned both down and made them both better in my opinion. Now, I find myself reaching for it daily, albeit in small doses. I live on a horse ranch, and I agree with the above poster that it is similar in smell to horse feed. Not hay, but the feed that comes in 50 lb. bags. Quite nice!

I like the WE Garrett Sweet too, not as much as Garrett plain though. I think the sweets were added more for oral use than nasal use, but I agree that the drip is better with the sweet. It still provides a nice good nic hit too!

One of the few scotches I can find, Not bad but I 'm with @hdsale I enjoy the plain

@mrmanos That sounds like my own small Colorado town. There’s a head shop here called Smokey Monkey that sells W.E. Garrett Sweet. There is, however, a news stand in our downtown area that sells Silver Dollar snuffs. It’s hard to find snuff here in Colorado :frowning: You can get snus at almost any tobacco/smoking supply store, but snuff is too obscure. I almost want to start a thread where people from here can list confirmed snuff purveyors. God knows Google could only possibly be more helpful.

@Kpod, we have serveral of those threads. Here’s the official one though: http://www.snuffhouse.org/discussion/7521/where-can-i-buy-snuff-on-vacation-traveling-in-my-town#latest If it gets large enough, I’ll start subdividing it into regions. There are already a few lke for Pennsylvania and Minnesota floating around too.

@Xander Much obliged!

I like them both. The Sweet is a good change of pace.

This was my first snuff. After experiencing the European (and later the South African and Indian) snuffs, American snuffs quickly sank to the bottom of my favorites list.

@kod, I’m in Steamboat and there is only Smoker Friendly and STmbt Smoke Shop, which is head shop/“adult” dvd’s, hookah and shisha tobacco. The owner kindly ordered me some Toque Spanish Brandy, and also Peach, which shoulld be in today. But he doesn’t want to stock a lot because people here don’t use it nearly as much as snus, which is available everywhere. I’m glad he carries the Garrett Sweet, which I have grown to really like a lot!

I find sweet american scotches to be rather horrid. But I may biased as I don’t even care for fruity/sweet snuffs at all.

My very first snuff was Ozona Cherry, from Poschl.  We were visiting Minneapolis, Minnesota and went to a German restaurant there.  Every customer was given a shot of apple schnapps and some cherry snuff after their meal.  I enjoyed it quite a bit, and asked if they would sell me one of the 5g tins…which they did.  But, I didn’t really take to using snuff.

Recently, I was at a tobacco store, and they had the W.E. Garrett Sweet snuff.  I bought it, and gave it a try.  Quite a nicotine kick…and I loved the smell of it…the taste of it, and the feeling.  I’m trying other snuff brands now, and expanding out.  But, the Garrett Sweet is what converted me.

This was my first snuff I ever tried, it still ranks up there as my favorite.

It’s a shame I can not find any, or any snuff for that matter locally anymore.

@mmjkrm, where do you live?

I could arrange to mail you can.  There are two stores here locally that stock it.

PM Mark. Thanks.
