Very fine and dry. I wouldn’t recommend this to a beginner as it can be tricky to take. It is, however, absolutely worth it. The tin note is smokey, like when you light up a barbecue, and very strong. It’s almost the same in the nose, I get some spicy saltiness in addition. The scent lasts for a good amount of time and gradually gets less smokey and more plain. The nicotine level is very high, it’s probably the strongest snuff I’ve tried so far. I said I wouldn’t recommend it to a beginner, but if you’re a beginner and have no trouble taking scotches or toasts and are looking for a high nicotine snuff, definitely give this one a try.
Garrett sweet was my first and its all I used for a week while waiting on an order. I liked it, but I recall getting quite a drip, although it was sweet and didn’t taste bad at all. When I tried my first English snuff, I had absolutely no issues with snuffing too hard. I believe Garrett as my first snuff primed my nose for all the rest to come, and now toque lime toast is my everyday choice.
A very kind forum member had sent me a tin of this snuff. smoky dry and strong! This one can be an all day snuff but it definitely takes some technique to avoid choking on it. It’s a good standby for sure
This is one that I have in my bug-out bag for when SHTF. My son has the name also and was saving for his kid (if ovcouse he has a son).
I usually have some Scotch snuff daily amongst my other favorites. Of course my favorite Scotch Honest was discontinued. I think I will get some in my nose shortly.
I felt like the scotch was like snorting a ground up boot… I mailed it to someone. I do however love the sweet, I use it somewhat frequently. Its smooth, and reminds me of the scent of the marshmallows from a box of cereal. Kind of reminds me of powder sugar when draining, which seems unavoidable with them. The only other US blend I use is the Honey Bee… Mmm it is as sweet as honey.
Garrett Scotch is what I started with, and it’s still a daily for me! In fact, a pinch… Ahhh You know, speaking for myself, the snuffs I’ve fallen in love with so far have been the ones that bring me back to specific times in my life. Olfactory memory is sharper than photographic! This one always brings me back to camping, when you wake up the next morning, and everything has the leftover smell of the bonfire the night before, mixed now with the morning dew… yes. Only two things have prevented this from being my all-day. First, it seems if I use it back to back and get too used to the scent, it loses its power. Second, one if the reasons I switched to snuff in the first place was to lessen my dependence on vitamin N, and this stuff is LOADED! Anyways, enjoy in good health, @Jernej
Tried WE Garrett Scotch for the first time four days ago.
As an apprentice snuff-taker, I’ve been very eager to try any new snuff I can get my hands on. A local shop ordered some for me, and I bought a couple of cans, plus a tin of Silver Dollar Scotch, which I also had never tried before. My only experience had been with a few of the Silver Dollar flavors, so I was itching to try something American.
Holy Jeez.
Maybe it was the warm weather and empty stomach, but after a half dozen pinches spread out over a half hour, I was feeling like I was DONE with all tobacco…for good. Bloodstream completely saturated with N. Not sure if I got a super-fresh batch, but the hardwood (I’m assuming hickory, although the initial whiff reminded me of mesquite, as it was so strong) was completely overpowering. I was a little disappointed, as I was now the proud owner of 60+ grams of snuff I thought I’d never be able to enjoy. I emptied half the can into a large, uncovered glass jar, hoping that an airing would attenuate the smokiness.
So the next day, I tried a little bit more. The hardwood flavor had toned down a bit.Later that evening, I’m sitting in my recliner, open can of WE, taking very small, but frequent pinches. I’ve tried a few boxcars, but pinching was much more pleasant. I’m not sure if I could use Garrett’s Scotch exclusively, but there’s something very compelling about it. I’ll have a pinch or bump of SD, then I start thinking where my can of WE Garrett is at. Crazy stuff. Concerning the SD Scotch, the hardwood flavor is a bit milder than the WE, and it’s a bit easier to take. There’s something else in the SD Scotch that I’m not tasting in the WE Scotch. Can’t put my finger on it yet. Still a rookie.
For what it’s worth, Garrett is a tough, masculine snuff, with a hit of N. that’ll blow your doors off. Two thumbs up!
PS - Any recommendations for an American Sweet? Would like to try WE sweet and mild, but it’s out of stock.
@rusty_sanchez Helme Honey Bee is a decent Sweet scotch , Helme Wild Cherry is also good. Helme Checkerberry is like teaberry gum or some say pepto bismol . You can also hydrate and flavor your snuff to make it easy to use.Try fresh herbs like mint leaf or just peel the color off an orange and place it in with snuff but not touching overnight.oily coffee beans ect.
@rusty_sanchez, I much prefer the W.E. Garrett Sweet. I like them both, but prefer the Sweet. The Garrett Scotch is something I go to once a day, for that intense smokey flavor. But the Sweet is much more subtle, and I can use it all day. Quite the nic-kick to both of them though. Mark
I just did a cocktail regarding Garret Scotch. I mixed a 100 gram bag of Sterneker with 3 teaspoons of Garret for a uplift of vitamin N. The scent went from Christmas cake/ Fig Newton into a Cigar/ cake-y pipe tobacco scent. Very nice. I’ll try it out soon to gauge the strength…I just took a couple of Garret pinches tonight and while the buzz is gone my head is still spinning :).
You can add cocoa to your snuff. not the swissmiss with dry milk just straight cocoa like Hershey’s cocoa.
