Can anyone offer any advise regarding the possession of snuff on a plane to the usa? Will I be prevented in any way from bringing in or taking out Cheers

S

Probably not. Depends on the quantity.

If you keep them in their original containers and limit it to just a few in your carry-on, then it shouldn’t pose a problem. If they do ask, I’m sure it’s just ignorance and a polite answer and glimpse of what’s inside and you’ll be on your way, usually. Couldn’t tell you specifics on what’s allowed, but I’ve never had a security question any of my tobacco.

It might be better off in the undercarriage. However don’t bring anything you aren’t prepared to lose

I doubt the security will give it a second look especially if it is in factory tins. A single unmarked bullet of Dholakia White may not be the way to go though.

I have taken snuff with me on a plane to the UK and back. No problems, but I did put it in an old J&H Wilson small blue tin, so it was in factory packaging. On the way back from England, I had a few tins that I bought there in my checked luggage. They were in sealed factory packaging.

I just returned from a trip stateside and had absolutely no issues, and have never had any going through security or customs on countless previous trips- this is into/out of the US, Japan and several other countries. On the aircraft you may notice that the in-flight magazine says “no smokeless tobacco or electronic cigarettes” or something along that line, but to date I have never had issue with taking a snuff- though I tended to do it back by the lavatory. Depending on how much you intend to bring in, the customs declaration may be a moot point if you only have a few tins. I would only concern myself with declaring it if you are bringing in several hundred grams. On a side note I have packed extra snuff in my checked bag and brought a few tins, tap boxes and even an acrylic Toque bullet in my carry on- never once had a second look given.

Duty free limits apply in most countries. Although I brought half a kilo back to Indonesia on my most recent overseas trip and no-one said a thing.

Never had a problem

As @JakartaBoy noted, the US has duty free allowances for non-US citizens but nothing at Customs really speaks to tobacco products such as snuff, other than to say " For information about duty-exemption or duty rates for other tobacco products, please contact the port of entry directly" I truly believe that personal amounts would not be an issue. As I noted earlier- under a few 100 grams would be reasonable- more than a few hundred may require declaration and possibly a duty payment.
