Guys I was wondering if you could rattle off a few snuffs that are made with virginia tobacco leaf? I realized I really like the WoS Gold Label and not just because I’m a sucker for SPs, but because I like the great Virginia Tab base they use with it. Could someone help me out? It doesn’t have to be an SP but preferably not menthol…

Most of the Molens are made with Virginia. Check out snuifmolens.nl A good majority of the snuff sold today is made with tobacco from Zimbabwe, and I have no idea what seed they use. The fact that Gold Label specifies Virginia makes me think that others are non-Virginia.

I think it had Zimbabwe in it as well- or I maybe wrong and heard that the others had the zimbabwe…

Bernards gekachelter virginie is a good plain snuff using virginia tobacco. I’d recommend that one. Yes, I think the latest molens snuffs use a fermented virginia (Hollandse bOlongaro, musino, etc) and i’m sure there are more that i cant recall at the moment…

Hollandse bolongaro is a sublime fermented virginia.

Zimbabwe produces good virginia. I think Zimbabawe produces the Virginia for Sam Gawith’s Full Virginia Flake. Wouldn’t surprise me if this doesn’t feature in the SG snuffs. The thing about Gold Label is it’s advertised as USA grown virginia. When I first tried this I got a clear smell of Havana cigar wrapper! Great tobacco! But this quality disappeared out of the tin almost straight away… or my ability to sense it has gone. This might be a great snuff that starts to die fast when you open the tin.

Everything I’ve heard about the Gold Label makes me think it’s more tempromental then most other snuffs. Might explain why it’s on of the few to use the tobacco it uses just a guess though.

I dunno… I think it’s just coincidence. The tin I had was GREAT. Not a problem at all… it is sorta strange though… the rusting tin story comes to mind…

I think some of the reviews of this on Snuffreviews suggest a brilliant first tobacco sense, and then a fading of this effect. For instance REDSTAR says: ‘It seems to be a different, slightly darker tobacco base being used here. Stronger in nicotine, too. Edit: In the long run, the flavour´s not that good as it seems in the beginning.’ My guess is some of ‘that flavour’ just vanishes fast with the air. But I don’t have the best hooter in the game so take my view on it with a pich of something. I just tried some and it’s just good SP, maybe still just a tad richer than usual but I’m not getty that classy tobacco thing any more.

I’ve never tried it so I really don’t know. It’s another on the list of will trys.

stop stealing my thoughts, Bob. I haven’t tried it either but its definitely on my to try list. by the way, is Red Star a member of this site? He has a ton of reviews on www.snuffreviews.com and seems very knowledgeable but I can’t remember seeing a Red Star post on here before.
