Hello I’m new here i Just had a quick Question i was unable to find on the forums, i found some unopened vIntage scotch’s on ebay and i was just wondering if there would still be any life left in these sense they are a dryer snuff or would I be better off buying what i can get fresh?
Well, I commonly watch them on ebay, but have never bought any. They seem to be pretty popular. I am going to say right off the bat it sounds kind of gross, but I’m pretty sure that people are in some cases still buying them to snort. I would think some are better than others, but 30-40 years old. So, maybe people have some sort of taste for the stuff. I don’t know. But, it seems like you are going to get a lot more enjoyment from a fresh tin. What can you get fresh?
Mixed - I have brought some of these previously as I find the packaging quant and they’re nice to collect. Some [usually the bottles] are fine with minimal re-hydration if any. Old tins aren’t so good and often are badly corroded. These are often rather pricey on eBay too, you can usually get fresh tins much cheaper and the snuff will be a lot better quality wise. Also worth mentioning is that some tins advertised as old/vintage are in fact not that old at all, I have a couple with the later cardboard body rather than metallic throughout; these are late 90’s early 00’s I believe.
What @MisterPaul says. If you are buying an old bottle of scotch snuff and the seal is intact, you’re probably in pretty good shape as long as the bottle was stored decently. You always run the risk that the cork deteriorated or that the bottle sat on the furnace for the last twenty years. I once bought a bottle of Maccoboy at a yard sale which was completely intact and completely ruined. You pays your money and you takes your chances.
@corymillia, the only snuff I’m able to find locally is w.e. gerrett sweet which I enjoy but it does become a bit bland after daily use, @mrpaul, @Malatesta and @corymillia thank you all for your time and input it’s much appreciated
@snuffywise, don’t be silly. I’ve learned so much through this forum. I used to think I knew what I was talking about. I now know I don’t.
@mallatesta, i agree in the few short weeks of ghosting this site i have probably learned more about snuff (which admittably is nothing compared to the grand scheme of things) than i ever would have in my lifetime had i not found it
