Having searched the forum, I have found no specific review for Viking Spear. As I feel it deserves one , I suppose I will take it upon myself to write it. I’m a fairly new snuffer (just under a year) so anything I say should be taken with a grain of salt (or a pinch of your favorite if you so choose). Grind: On the coarse side of medium. Moisture: Fairly moist but not rappee moist. Strength: It’s a sleeper. There’s definitely more nicotine here than it seems (especially since it’s so easy to take a lot of. It can sneak up on you if you’re not careful. And this is coming from an ex-smoker) And now, on to the meat, as they say. Upon opening, the tin note is certainly spearmint, but it has a faint undercurrent of earth and leather from the kendal base. When taken, there is a powerful hit of spearmint and a very pleasant burn. After five seconds or so the burn fades and you’re left with a nice spearmint that I can best describe as soft or delicate, not in your face at all. This fades slowly over a few minutes (although I find it can be refreshed by a nose pinch as long as twenty minutes or so after the pinch) and you get a hint of the wonderful KB base just in time for your next pinch. One odd note, I’ve found that after the spearmint fades and I’m scenting only the base tobacco that there is sometimes a (not unpleasant) floral note that smells like plumeria to me. For me, Spear produces a slight front drip and a pronounced back drip. The back drip is gritty so it could be a problem if you are sensitive to it, but is not harsh or acidic and is actuall quite nicely flavored. To me, Viking Spear is well woth a try if you haven’t yet had the pleasure and has quickly made its way on to my short list of every day carry snuffs. A very good pinch if you like KB or similar coarse snuffs.

Hahaha, I was writing my small review for this one on the Chef’s topic on Viking while you were writing yours! I’m glad to see I’m not alone on noticing the slightly floral note on this blend.

No, you’re not alone. I don’t always get the floral,9 and when I do it is quite subtle. It is definitely present, however. But, as I said, it’s not unpleasant and I feel it adds yet another dimension to a wonderful snuff.
