Viking dark

I just can’t keep my nose out of it. Just wanted to comment on what a great snuff this is. Sorry this post may be taking up space.

We always appreciate reviews and reactions. The mods prefer that it all stay in the same thread over time, but some find that intractable.

Could you please tell a little review on this snuff? I will add my part to this thread with a pic :D.

Viking dark is a medium to coarse moist snuff.'soft smokey flavor with a subtle burn and a nice punch of nicotine. I get earthy elements combined with a sweet coffee/chocolate aroma. Easy to take in large pinches and very enjoyable; my current go to snuff.

An incredible snuff with a nice burn and a hell of a nicotine kick. When I took my first pinch I wasn’t sure at all, found it almost compost like in scent and grind but it grew on my very quickly. Its now an everyday ‘at work snuff’ due to it not being too strong in scent as to become tiresome but is also a great mixer to dilute flavours, boost nic and make very dry fine snuffs easier to take when your busy

Viking Dark is one of my favorite snuffs. When I received my first order of this I immediately reordered. A nice, easy to take strong snuff. Satisfies nicotine cravings easily!

Isn’t it just a rebranded SG product?

Dude I thought Mr. Snuff was getting some in on Monday. Did they sell out already?

It may be…I haven’t tried all of their products so I couldn’t guess which one. I think the consensus is SG makes it. All the better! It’s a great snuff…

SG makes it, but as far as I know it’s not re-branded.  It is similar to some of their coarse dark snuffs in flavor, but the grind is more of a medium.

To me, Viking Dark has the likeness of SG’s SP Scotch.

We now have Viking back in stock. Though we just ran out of the Spear. I will order more tomorrow.

@snuffbrant,  I guess that just shows how different perceptions can be.  To me, Viking Dark is nothing at all like SP Scotch (which I also like and have used a lot of).  The grind is similar, but the scent is completely different and Viking Dark is black in color, whereas SP Scotch is brown.

yeah, @tybalt, maybe my memory fails me … it has been about 6 months since i finished my SP Scotch … that was what popped in my head upon first sniff … color of the snuff not withstanding.  more just the scent … i suppose this just means i need to order more SP Scotch to remember its scent correctly.  ;)

More likely it is similar to Scotch Black, than SP Scotch. I’ve not tried these Viking snuffs yet, but the reports I’ve read tend to place them in the Sam Gawith rappee and KB families. @datahop Looking at that photo, it looks like its being sold dispensed from bulk now? I thought (and appreciated) that they were sellng it in vacuum tins.

The image above is a 10g bag that MySmokingShop is selling. 25g are sold in vacuum sealed tins, just like other SG.

@Xander 50 gram vacuum tins or bulk 500 gram tubes

To me the Viking Dark is a little finer than the SG Kendal Browns. I have not had the Rappee but if I understand the grind of those the Viking is of finer grind.

Yes for me also: The Viking Dark is in my opinion not really similar to any other SG snuff. It is unique. The Viking Brown has a lot of similarity with the Kendal Brown family.

How does it compare to the Viking Brown, which I’m waiting for here.

@Uwe, I agree. To my nose, it is really quite different to the rappees, and unlike any SG I have tried. I would suggest the Viking Dark is closest to an unflavoured KB (i.e. without the citrus top note), with a slightly finer grind. A very natural tasting snuff.
