Very Small Silver Snuff Boxes

I happened across a site which sells some very small silver pill boxes. I’m sure these are not for everybody, but myself I’ve been looking for something pretty small since I only snuff maybe 2-3 grams worth of snuff a day and everything I was finding elsewhere held more like 7-10 grams of snuff and I’ve been only filling it with 2-3 grams so I was pretty much carrying around alot of extra air, lol… Anyways here is the link to the site if anybody is interested in a small box Small Silver Snuff Boxes I ordered the one in the second row down on the far right. It says it is sterling silver, and that It measures approx. 1 7/16 inches W x 1 inch D x 7/16 inches H which is pretty small, but like I said I was looking for something that would only hold about 2-3 grams of snuff for me to carry around when at work since that is about the most I’d use. I doubt it is extremly airtight, but neither were the others I had ordered which was more reason why I really wanted something small enough to actually only hold my personal days supply… I had my initials engraved in the top, and picked first class shipping (2-3 days) and my total came to $61.00, I’ll post some pictures and let everyone know how my order turned out once it arrives…

Looks nice Poo-Diddy. I like the dimensions too. Would hold plenty for me for a day. Look forward to seeing the update when you receive. If you can I’d like to see a pic of the box opened. (just wondering if it can be filled higher than the separation point evident in the photo)

I’ll post some pictures of it next to some other tins once I recieve it, but for now here is a picture from the site of it open. At 7/16ths of an inch high it’s about as thick as an Ozona Cherry/Raspberry/Spearmint etc. round tin.

That’s what I was looking for, a nice inner lip all the way around. Looks like nice quality stuff there so I imagine it will close tightly too.

That’s the only thing I am hoping for, the size and small amount it will hold I know will be perfect for me, I’m only hoping it kind of snaps shut and actually takes a bit of effort to open. I guess the only way to explain what I am hoping for would be that it wouldn’t swing completely open if held only by the bottom half and then turned upside down. I’m hoping that it snaps shut tight enough that you would physically have to open it. I’ll let you know, until it comes I’m keeping my fingers crossed…

Nice looking box. I came across that site before while searching for silver boxes & I think all those are made by the same silversmith Ari D. Norman in the UK that is the maker of the silver snuff boxes I got on ebay and the same as what Tim sells on snuffstore. I remember seeing them on the Ari Norman website. You’ll know soon enough if there is a hallmark on the back of a shield with 'AN" in the center of shield.

I hope you are right Troutstroker that they are made by the same silversmith as the ones selling at Tim’s store as I like those very much, I was just looking for one a bit smaller for carrying around daily. And fixin I’m glad you shared what happened with the celtic knot box as I have seen them a ton of times and almost went ahead and bought one, glad I didn’t…

Great! I just bought one of them Celtic Knots…were you at least able to fix it fixin2? Figures I’d read this just hours after purchase.

Nice looking box indeed! As for me - I like huge, heavy, ornate silver snuff boxes, hee hee :o)

My snuffbox arrived today and I must say I’m very pleased with everything. I ordered it Sunday night at around 11 pm, it was shipped on Monday from Florida at 3 pm and arrived in my mailbox today at 12 pm. This was with the option of the $7 priority mail. The box itself is excactly what I had been searching for, it seems to hold about 2 - 3 grams of snuff which for me is about what I use in a days time. The personalized engraving on top turned out very nice also which adds a nice touch. It also came with a felt bag which you can see in the pictures, but I doubt I’ll ever use it. And most importantly is this box snaps shut like I was hoping it would. The seal seems very tight, as I first filled it with some spanish jewel which is a pretty fine ground snuff then closed it and shook it every which direction and not a grain of snuff fell out. Since it will only be filled with a days worth at a time, I won’t have to worry about too much air causing my snuff to dry out. Anyways here are some pix. In this photo you can get an idea on the size as compared to a smashbox, JH Wilsons small box, McChrystal’s 3.5 gram tin, and an Ozona tin.

Sweet little box Poo-diddy! I’m looking for something along those lines too.

Nice indeed. Did you figure out who the silversmith is yet?

I don’t know how many they have, but I would imagine they are most likely well enough stocked since they were able to send mine out immediately. I did notice on a couple of their boxes they noted that they were out of stock. I don’t know who the silversmith is as nothing in the box it came in or the bag or snuffbox itself has any type of marking that I can see. So far it hasn’t given me any problems and the small size seems perfect, I’m about half through my snuffing day, and it is now about half full of Spanish Jewel so by the end of the night it should be empty and ready for me to put something new in it. Perfect for where I am at right now as a snuff user. If I ever am able to quit dipping the Kodiak, and become and exclusive snuff taker I will need something larger but right now this box at about 2 grams a day is perfect…

Not even a silver purity hallmark like a 925 mark? Silver especially newly manufactured silver items should be hallmarked with its purity & place of origin & place of grading & if your lucky a date mark. Usually on the outside bottom. Maybe on the lip of lid, sometimes the hallmarks can be out of direct sight. Sometimes they are so small you need to use a 10x loop just to see it. The marks on my silver box are only about 1mm each, there are 6 marks in a row, the whole row is only 7mm.

I like it. Much classier than carrying around a smashbox. I’d compare carrying a smashbox to smoking RYO cigs and carrying them in tupperware. @fixin2- that celtic knot box tempted me for a while too but something told me I’d be disappointed. Seemed like it may be a mass produced “made in china” item. Like poo-diddy said, sorry to find out at your expense but thanks for letting us know.

Just wanted to share one concern I have with this particular box for anybody who may be thinking of purchasing one. It may be nothing to be concerned about but I am a bit worried about the snuff build up on the lip between the back of the box and the hinge. It seems when a bit too much snuff lands in that spot it makes it a bit more difficult to close, so I make sure to scrape the snuff that lands on that lip off every so often. Other than that, it seems to work perfect after a full day of use. I finished off the Spanish Jewel and refilled it for tommorrow with some McChrystal’s O&G. Trout, I still can’t seem to find any type of marking on the box at least not with the 20/20 vision of my naked eye.

O.K. Troutstroker after giving the box another good search, my vision finally prevailed and I found on the inside of the box, near the front lip is a marking that says 925, other than that, I can’t find anything else…

I think thats a problem you’ll find with any hinged box. Before closing lid after pinching, just hold the box at slight angle with lid open and give the side a few taps to knock the snuff back in the box.

It’s indeed common, especially on these boxes, of all sizes. What I do is simply to wash the box in lukewarm water, gently scrubbing it with a soft nail brush. And when dry, it’s ready to go again.

Beautiful and just the right size in my opinion. Check out Walsh brothers on the net, I got a silver box of about the same size from them and its just perfect. The actual manufacturer is Carrs at www.carrs-silver.co.uk. The build up of snuff grains is pretty common in a hinged metal box, as you say a little tap or wipe solves it just before closing.
