Vanilla extract

Can vanilla extract be used to give snuff a vanilla scent? Thank you in advance.

I feel as @Chefdaniel has already done this so I hope he drops by. I would try it now but, it would take as little as 1 day but, up too a week. I have never tried meddling with snuff infusion so it may take the whole week to get it right.

@Everest‌ Vanilla Extract, the good stuff (I like Tahitian), can be used to scent just about any snuff, but be careful with toasts. After scenting they won’t be toasts anymore  I like to use these cheap ryo filters, dip into vanilla extract and put into a tin or snuff box for a days. As soon as the scent is to your liking pull the filter out after brushing off any snuff that clings. If it’s not up to snuff (sorry, I couldn’t resist) just dip another clean filter in vanilla and keep going, repeating until it suits you. It may get a little damp; just let it get some air and all’s well. If you have access to vanilla beans you can soak them in your choice of booze, blot off excess and proceed. Don’t throw the vanilla bean away, just keep re-soaking in booze, back in the tin, repeating as often as needed. Even after the bean is dry it can be re-used with a refresher of more booze.

So, I put the extract directly into the snuff or do I use a small cup device and put the snuff and extract into an air tight container? I want to make sure I do this correctly.

I just put the soaked filter into the container and give it a shake if I remember to. Because the filter is inorganic and the extract alcohol based mold isn’t an issue. Using the bean, same procedure, soaking in booze prevents cooties. I wouldn’t add liquid extract to your snuff. You have to let it absorb the scent then sieve out the lumps. I do it when I make snuff from scratch in 1-2 lb batches and run it through #20-#200 sieves depending on what I’m looking for. That can be a pain in the ass for one tin of snuff.

@chefdaniel‌ what do you mean by filter?

See my post above. Tops ryo cigarette filters. Dip into liquid, place in snuffbox or tin. See post here: http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/9058/snuff-box-freshness#latest

Thank you!!!

I find vanilla pods, again left in the snuff works well, and is easily available…

ive had great success with using nielssen-massey madagascar vanilla by putting a drop on inside top of a half ounce tin, it only takes a day or so. but definatly use high quality vanilla in your concoction since vanilla can be very different between brands

( Thank goodness for the search tool, I can find these posts and not start new ones , lol … ) So - I am interested in this, thinking that I have access to cheap American Scotches all day long - what about getting some good beans, do a quick neutral spirit soak over night, then shove in a tall can of Bruton and forget for a week or so ?

@The_HP‌ Give it a try. It should work fine.

What’s the best natural vanilla snuff on the market? Looking for a very strong vanilla

Toque Vanilla gets my vote for JUST vanilla but SWS Auld Alliance has some really fine, complex, rich vanilla notes.

I would agree with @Ivan. Toque Vanilla for a Vanilla-only snuff, Auld Alliance if you’re feeling flush!

I’m likeing Jaxons and Samuel Gawith Vanilla ! I think only the batch makes them diffrent but the dark rich tobacco flour adds to the Vanilla.
