Unknown Snuff Identification

J

Recently received an order of Old Paris. Upon opening, discovered the tin contained a type of SP not O.P. as labeled. Have never been a big fan of SP but find this to be quite nice the more that I use. Problem is I am not sure of the actual name so it is not possible to order more. Definitely an SP. Medium grind and Medium brown. Nice medium moistness. Best SP I have tried. Any ideas?

B

Maybe Kendal Brown?

J

Possible but seems like a straight up SP. I am using KB original as a daily at the moment. Not that familiar with the KB’s or SP"s

N

WoS KB and F&T KB are nothing like the SG and GH ones (and have no right to call themselves Kendal Brown as far as I’m concerned). Does the snuff have a straight up bergamot scent or a weird soapy scent, if its soapy its most likely F&T or WoS KB (they are both made by WoS and mislabeled tins have been known to happen)

N

If it has more nose burn than average SP, my guess would be WOS Gold Label. It is made of a different tobacco base (Virginia) than other WOS SPs.

J

This is a slightly darker colour than Sp’s I have seen. Nose is mainly citrus. I use Tom Buck as a mixer and this is similar but milder. In fact I decided to keep this and use it in my normal Princes / T.B. mix. Also have some Morlaix (and KB original) here that I assume has the style of SP but heavy bergamot aroma. Is this correct?

N

Maybe WoS Best SP Tom Buck is just a heavier scented Best SP, your description of it being similar but milder than Tom Buck suggests it may be Best SP

J

Perhaps. I have little exposure to the SP’s other than Tom Buck which I never use by itself. Guess I will have to try them all to make a determination.
