Well, I have been snuffing all day at work, and I recently got home, tried some Dragun Menthol to relax and a bunch of other stuff, and to be honest, I can smell a damned thing. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Over-snuffage?

Dunno, but I seemed to get a similar thing with pipe tobacco once or twice.

I’ve gotten “palate fatigue” a few times with my pipe baccy, but “nose fatigue” yet. I wonder if it’s possible?..

I’ve had my nose clog up from too much snuffing, and there was some sensory degradation from that. Oddly, my cure is to blow my nose out real well, sniff a small pinch of something heavily mentholated and sit outside for a short while. My sinuses clear up in just a few short minutes. Kind of a snuff “hair of the dog” cure.

Well, I can guarantee it is going to be a Hedges and McChrystals O and G kind of day today.

Just like everything I suppose you can ‘fatigue’ the olfactory nerves. Just be judicious, have patience and hope like hell it clears up soon. Good luck!!! My problem is more in the area of swelling up of the turbinates in my nose making it very hard to breathe through my nose at all sometimes. Extremely annoying… Do I stop? No. But I do slow down and watch what I am snuffing to see if there is a trigger. To date, for me, mentholated snuffs, any of the Princess types and schmalzers seem to be culprits which is a bummer because I like those options!!!

@stogie The only snuff I seem to be able to tolerate presently is F&T HDT and Tom Buck about 50/50 mixture. Small pinches too.

can ‘fatigue’ the olfactory nerves! Easily. It’s survival oriented. So the lovely smells don’t stop you from smelling important smells. Notice when you first get to the beach or new york city there are terrible smells that disapear in an hour or two.

Yes your nose will never work again pack up all your snuff and send it to me right away :))

This would be the time I’d use up some of the snuffs I’m not too fond of.

Yea I use one. It helps clean out your nose but I don’t think it will bring back your smell. Same thing happens to me where I can’t smell it usually happens before I get a cold and lasts up to a couple weeks. Just hang in there I know its upsetting but it will come back.

@Kaiser_Wilhem The neti Pot works wonders for me. My sinus’s are draining & I’ve been snuffing heavy all day. After using the neti, I get 2 or three good nose blows and all the gunk comes out and I can breathe again as well as get back to enjoying my snuff again. YMMV

Depending on where you live (in usa) this could be a big risk , in other parts not so much , but distilled or bottled water would be an option, if i remember there was outbreaks in Ny , and Michigan earlier this year.

Wouldn’t just bringing the water to a rolling boil (and of course cooling it back down again ) take care of the problem?

Saline sterilised drops or Nasal wash works for a good clear out. Brain eating fungus is real…I am sure…I saw it in on the Interweb. Seriously only use home Sterilised water at the least and medically sterile water to wash the old Snuff box out. Your Nasal sensory cells grow back and are constantly replaced.So a light rest a little clear our and you will be back to full snuffage in no time

I know a couple that died from sharing Neti Pots , The main risk is using one then someone else using it and getting your bacteria in there nose as it can kill you… But just make sure to use distilled water and clean it good… A good thing to use is a dishwasher just put it in there after use and run it with your dishes… If you do not have a dish washer then use hot hot hot water with anti-bacterial soap like Dawn or Soft-Soap …

Yes, I get nasal fatigue sometimes. It’s very annoying. When it happens, I ‘clean’ the nose out with a strong menthol then turn to really punchy smelling snuffs.

I would say it’s sort of like A1 steak sauce, but there is a difference in the taste. HP is great on meat pies.

Also nice in beef stew and with french fries provided you don’t use too much.
