I was wondering what types of tobacco are typically used for snuff? Does Toque use a base tobacco and add flavors? Or are they different blends? I have seen a couple speciality tobaccos offered on their website but what is typically used?

P

I believe toque uses Rustica in most of toque snuffs. But I may be wrong.

W

I believe that Toque uses no Rustica at this time! I wish they would, at least in the Spanish one.

Nearly all commerical tobacco is nicotania tabbacum. There are dozens (hundreds?) of varieties of that, but all the same species. N. rustica is a different species. Wilsons generally use Zimbabwe and some Virginia, at least according to that list on Sheffield Exchange. Roderick might indulge us with some of Toque’s secrets.

C

Gold Label has American tobacco in it (Virginia).

J

From what I can remember Roderick has been using a blend of American and African tobacco for all his snuffs. It’s in the forums here somewhere. this web page has tobaccos used by Wilsons and F&T. Jaap has some great Virginia tobacco. I really like the sweetness of the Virginia varietal.
