Hi, I discovered snuff about three weeks ago and instantly fell in love with the stuff (which was just as well as I spent about a tenner on my first order). I can only now say that I’ve got the knack of it and there have been two little revelations that have really helped the medicine go up; you may find that they’re obvious but hey I can’t be the only one who took a while to figure it out. Tip #1 Some guides reference snuff being sniffed into the front of the nose; I took this as meaning the nasal cavity as opposed to the sinuses behind the nose, now I realise that it means the pointy tip - the more you aim for the tip the less likely it is to be pulled all the way up and into the throat or sinuses. Tip #2 For finer snuffs, sniff from a greater distance. I’m not talking arm’s length here but you don’t have to have your fingers right up in your nostrils; sniffing from further away of course means the air pull isn’t at full strength by the time the snuff reaches your nostrils, this usually results in it settling on the inner nostril rather than going up the chute. That’s all I’ve got. My current challenge is resisting the overwhelming urge to sneeze when the snuff hits a ticklish, sensitive spot. It’s a game of mind control, Ietting go of the urge to sneeze by focusing intensely - it’s like a mini meditation. Anyway, I digress. Be well, -Ric
Take bigger pinches - they are less irritating due to the surface area. A small pinch enters the nose as a jet, almost, which means a light coating over the mucosa - that makes it sneezy. A large pinch goes up more as a coherent piece. You will get much better nicotine release, obviously, with a larger pinch. This is probably the single most important aspect of ‘technique’ and a lot of snuffers never fully experience how good snuff can be through taking baby pinches.
I agree with @Abraxas on this one. I’ve been snuffing about 3 weeks now myself, and I’ve found all of my snuffs are better when the pinch is bigger, as opposed to smaller. Some of them really sing when the pinch seems like it is definitely too much
Ah yes, that’s something else I’ve been practicing as well. It helps now that I realise that… #3 the pinch is not the amount that protrudes the finger/thumb but the amount that is between them Now that may be the most obvious of them all but hey, give me a hat and call me Cpt. Obvious because I manage to miss these things! This has allowed me to take bigger pinches which, while counterintuitive as it gets, has made it a lot easier! I love the nicotine rush, that’s much of why I love snuff, and yes it certainly hits home harder when you take a ‘big boy pinch’.
Sniff at arms length when you have WP or D While.
Ive been snuffing since september and there are still some things that I dont have down yet. You will find that you learn a TON from this site here though. Glad to see ya here.
@Dogwalla - that is certainly true. I tried WP for the first time last evening!
Cheers Kaiser! Well I have to admit that I got a little bit ahead of myself thinking I had it sussed - I’m managing to keep it where it should be most of the time but I’m still having a few sneezing fits. Guess I need to work on those big pinches; often I only manage to sniff the top of the pinch rather than getting it up in one. On the plus side, I love it even when I get it wrong. Well except for the Toque Natural square in the sinuses, that wasn’t too groovy.
I am also new to snuff. I have trouble with some of the finer snuffs and never even thought of trying it from a distance. I will be trying that tomorrow.
I’ve coughed dust clouds using HDT or No.22 which I think is a waste. Never sneazed though even in the begining. A lot of the time with something like an SP I like to take repeated small pinches and build up the effect until I get the desired noise moistening and max nic hit. The other night I took a pinch up one nostril which really hit me and just my eye on that side watered. I thought wow of course and gave the other side the same blast. I discovered also that if one of my nostril is blocked then use the good one first and wait a minute or so until the other side clears and then both are fine to use. No fun trying to snuff up a blocked hooter.
Sniffing from a distance didn’t work for me. Sniffed…nothing, sniffed a little harder…nothing, sniffed harder again…BAM, my brain started to melt, my eye watered like crazy and the burn, oh the burn. Gonna stick with the pinch right under my nose and quick shallow sniffs. Not quite getting it but seems the closest to successful snuffing that I have had yet.
@cdnshooter many people have 1 nostril that’s more open than the other. I used to go right hand to right nostril directly to throat and lungs. If I go to the left with fine snuff it’s much easier.
@Dogwalla… Excuse me for my Ignorance in this case, I know what Dholakia White is… What is the WP? I’m lost … Maybe you can answer this in same thread ( so I dont have to start another thread ) I see alot of people use the acronym TAD … What’s TAD? ( I’m a newbie, 4 months or so ) Thanks
@3_D my right does seem to be more open than the left. I’ll just have to remember to not sniff as hard on that side.
@AANYCAARDS Good questions! WP is FUBAR Willie Pete. It’s very similar to Dholakia White, and is actually made by Dholakia as a Mr. Snuff brand. TAD is Tobacco Acquisition Disorder. It’s like hoarding only we don’t have to use the ‘H’ word
@Dogwalla…THANKS SO MUCH!! WP I knew that… Lol… No I didn’t … Just another snuff to add to the ever growing LIST ( shopping cart ) 4 months, I have 137 types of snuff…Does it ever end? Hope not
For Tip #2 remember your physics: The force is a function of the square of the distance!
@RunningBird these are grud tips they have already helped me
These laws of physics really only apply in a vacuum. There are a lot of other variables going on with snuffing. Its much like studying wind or water; there are eddy currents and counter currents etc. Coriolis effect, Boyle’s laws, Bernoulli’s principles etc. At the end of the day, having minimal airflow by holding the pinch in close to the nostril (like the choke on an engine) seems to cause the least discomfort.
Acquire snuff in nose by any means possible without discomfort , ENJOY, Repeat often as needed. It has nothing to do with the motion of the ocean or the angle of the dangle. It is really not that complicated ! It is not rocket science or brain surgery it is ground up tobacco
I didn’t get on well with pinching at first, so I used a spoon for the first couple of years. Then I saw a video on here of an old guy taking some snuff and noticed he used his middle finger. I had been using my forefinger, so gave the middle finger a try. It transformed my snuffing experience. I found I could take much bigger pinches using the middle finger which made taking all the very fine, harder to sniff snuffs very easy to take. There isn’t a snuff I don’t take large pinches of. And you get so much more nicotine. One of my pinches is equal to about 4 snuff spoons worth. Pinching makes snuff so much more enjoyable.
