Hello everyone, a friend of mine sent me the pictures of antique needle boxes he found in an antique shop. They are 50-70 years old and a little rusty, but they look great. Does rust cause any problem with the snuff?

T

@enfiye personally I would be a little concerned with rust breaking off and getting into my snuff and then getting into my nose. It could cause some irritation. You may be able to remove the rust though with some sandpaper, or some other similar abrasive. Some damp snuffs such as Wilson’s Brunswick, may worsen the rust if it wasn’t taken care of. So there is some potential for it not to work, but if you are able to tidy up the rust you may have a unique snuff box on your hands.

Remove the rust. Chemically remove, sand & polish if on the inside. If you want the vintage look on the outside, retard the rust growth and seal with compatible finish.

So, when i get the boxes, and do the job will send the pictures to make you guys jelous.

I seen sterling silver needle boxes, but I be weary about how well they seal.

My friend says “good enough for a days worth”, we’ll see.

Dates back to WW II and takes like 2-3 grams. My friend exaggerated the rust issue i guess. İt’s almost perfectly clean inside , here it is. It looks more vivid because of the camera.
