Does anyone have any experience with the metal turn tins from Mr. Snuff? I’ve always used either a wooden snuffbox or a Toque 10gr tin, and I’m wondering how well these work.

L

Silver Dollar snuff uses them. Once you break them in they are okay. Not sure how the empty ones from Mr. Snuff work. Only other issue is they tend to leak as you spin them.

V

They are the devil! Damn things get wee bits of tobacco jammed in them…and try as you might…that little bastard ain’t going anywhere! Happened to my silver dollar apricot, I guess not such a big deal as it smelled of buttered popcorn…Ugh.

M

I’m hoping mine ‘breaks in’, too. I filed a little notch in the bottom half so’s I could figure which way to turn it to line up the holes, but it is still a bear if your fingers are the least bit sweaty or greasy. It would help if the top and bottom ridges were milled for better grip.Apart from the mechanics it is a great little container.

S

If you mean this one, yes … i have 4 of them … I like them and don’t find them hard to turn … you can also pick them up from snuffgear.

S

The turn tins from Mr Snuff are a totally different than the Silver Dollar tins.

The only comparisons that can be made are they are circular and hold snuff.

The metal turn tins come apart easily for filling or pinching and do not leak. Snuff stays fresh in them for a long time. I’ve had snuff in them for a couple of weeks and when I cam back to it the snuff was fine.

They are one of the best values available for a snuff box.

@Vepr…you got buttered popcorn scent form SD Apricot!!!  Toque thought I was nuts when I said that. Glad to know I;m not alone.

SD Apricot was the only SD to give me major problems with the tin. The others have been pretty non sticky.

S

I have one and they are tough to turn, hopefully it gets easier after a while, knurled rims would be a great improvement for these.

S

@SnuffSniffer - one of my tins was hard to turn initially. I worked with it a little and it works perfectly now.

S

Yeah I guess if it was easy it wouldn’t hold together, should break in then.

V

@bigmick,

Oh yes, it’s buttered popcorn with this distant almost undiscernable fruit scent. I drove for 45 damn minutes with my husband to pick that stuff up and while driving back through the country we couldn’t help but look at each other asking…“Is that popcorn?”…“No it couldn’t be…wait, shit…it is.”

S

Alright, thanks for the feedback! @Slide so they just pull apart for filling then?

A

They do. They are tough to turn but a very nice size.

H

I like mine a bunch. I’ve found that if I only put a day’s worth into it and wipe it clean in between every filling, that it turns much easier.  Or I just take it apart even with snuff in it, and wipe off the two sides that slide against each other, snuff does get in there. It’s hard to learn how the grip it without squeezing it too much, which is making me work for it.

S

@SnuffinClown - yes.

I adjusted one that was tough to turn by gently squeezing the top of the inner portion. VERY gently. First try made it a little better. Did it again and that did the trick.

Both of mine are tight and leak proof but turn easily enough.

B

I find that I don’t have to turn the outer hole much further away from the inner hole. Just untill I feel a little bit of resistence. Keeps it from sliding open accidently while also making it easy to turn. Also keeps snuff from getting gunked up in the works.

I have one from Mr. Snuff, It was a gift from a user here and I could never thank him enough, It is my absolute favorite device to hold a days worth of snuff, but apparently a lot of people don’t like it, which is why it was gifted to me in the first place I think. I am going to order a few more as back ups. I work labor jobs and some of the lifting and stuff i do might crush the tin if it happens to get in the way of somthing somehow, i know that sounds vague haha. Always make sure you fill the insert half of the tin or the ‘male’ part, this will reduce the amount of snuff that gets caught in between, which will inevitably happen but is usually not a problem, at least for me.

B

I don’t get it cause I’ve had no problems with mine. Then again I never even thought fine fine snuff should go in it. Just medium ground fine snuff.

S

Mine work perfectly. I had to adjust one on mine when I first got it. But after that no problems.

S

Mine has loosened up nicely now.

E

I have three of them–they work well using the hole or, as is more common in my case, removing the lid to pinch.

B

I have no problem with mine. Love it in fact, it is always with me. Works flawlessly and plan on buying another! I do have a friend though who I share my snuff with once and a while. He can’t open the thing to save his life. I always have twist it open and hand it to him. Cracks me up every time because I have never had a problem with it.

B

I wonder if they’re grabing the outer part that sticks out?  Cause that is the way to do it. Since it doesn’t add pressure but gets traction. I imagine they’re trying to open it from the middle which is fine if you have a gentle touch.
