Introducing the Tripletech Snuff Box. The latest and greatest snuffbox creation by Patrick Collins. First there was the “Onefortheroad” single snuff box. Then the “Truedouble” double compartment snuff box. And now, the “Tripletech” snuff box! This is the ultimate snuff box! Tripletech: perfect for the three techniques that most of us snuffers use when snuffing. All with one snuff box. Pinch, Pour, Spoon

O

PINCH: Would you like a pinch? Just slide open the upper lid and enjoy a pinch of snuff What’s that hole on the left?

O

POUR: Prefer to take your snuff from the back of the hand or off the table? Slide the compact side edge open to reveal the hole that leads to the snuff storage area and pour some out. Hey, there’s a hole on the other side too?

O

It’s a snuff spoon! SPOON: Do you like to use a snuff spoon? Slide the side edge the opposite direction to reveal the snuff spoon storage well. Take out the beautiful hand carved tiger bone snuff spoon. Slide open the upper snuff compartment lid and scoop up some snuff.

that has to be one of the best things Ive seen in a long time. you really are an artist! edit: is tiger bone what I think it is? Namely bones from a tiger??

X

Ingenious, Patrick. Very nice. Tiger bone? Really?

O

I’ve been carrying around the prototypes since April of '08. I originally bought the spoons from an ebayer in China. They were listed as tiger bone snuff spoons, hand carved and 30 years old. After that I bought a large quantity from them direct. Very hard to communicate with them and any real dialogue has been nil. They do still sell them but I see they just say ‘bone’ snuff spoons now. They may be avoiding animal rights types or something. They must be from some animal. I personally like objects made of bone. Snuffboxes and chess sets and such. Newer bone chess sets are typically from camel bone and are produced in India where there seems to be a surplus of camels. I suppose one dead tiger would make a lot of these spoons. And from what I know there was a lot of killing of tigers in China in the past. My guess is they are indeed tiger bone. The spoons do all vary to some degree. Some are thinner or thicker, some have larger or smaller scoops, a little curve to the handle, darker or lighter bone etc. Definitely hand carved. I think the intended purpose for these is snuff bottles.

O

Here’s a larger pic of the boxes. Or not. Anyone know how to make the photobucket pic bigger?

G

well I wont get one of them then. The idea to hunt tigers for my snuffing pleasure just doesnt agree with me.

S

Patrick, how many grams will the tripletech hold??? An estimate would be fine doesn’t have to be exact.

C

Same here Goldenboy. The thought of it turns my stomach, not to mention it’s illegal as hell. The idea that a Tiger was murdered for something as trivial as a snuff spoon is bullshit.

O

About 4 grams.

These are definitely the coolest snuffboxes I have ever seen! Amazing design. I do not care if a tiger was hurt in the making of this or not…it is amazing. I’m trying to get to the nicotine rush page, but it keeps freezing. I will have to organize an order here soon. Thanks very much, Patrick. ~Ken

Any retailer that sells this has lost my business. Disgusting.

Im with you on this Cstokes, killing something as fabulous as a tiger for a snuffspoon is just plain evil and Im afraid this particular snuff box maker has just lost my respect and further custom. I think this is a genuinely sad moment that something like this is being offered on this site.

S

You guys need to wake up they are not killing Tigers to make snuff spoons. The snuff spoons are a by product of an already dead carcass. You should be happy that what normally would be waste and tossed is being recycled. Now go picket a grocery store or something geesh.

I

I would have to agree the tigers are most likely not killed specifically for the bones to manufacture for spoons or any other bone substance. The fact that tigers and other animals are being or in this case have (some time in the rather distant past) been killed is wrong but the intent remains. I would be suprized that the spoons were made with tigers killed by humans for profit. Most likely not killed by humans at all. Just my 2cents Vince

A

There is no need to be offensive and I don’t picket grocery stores or go on animal rights marches but this struck a chord with me, as it did with others. The provenance of the bone is unknown and unless he gets some certification from a zoo or something - which he won’t - the tigers were probably shot illegaly for their coats and to serve the market for medicine made from exotic animals. Its quite simple - we don’t get Tiger products in the west anymore unless they are poached and being poached 30 years ago makes no odds.

S

I don’t disagree I would never promote the killing of Tigers for any use. I see no harm in using legally gained by product. Poachers should be shot then we could get snuff spoons made from poachers bones!!!

O

I am sorry that you are offended that these spoons may be that of a tiger. They are 30 years old and I do not believe a tiger was killed for the sole purpose of spoons and hope that they were created from naturally occurring remains and or at least someone made them to utilize every thing they could of an animal. I do not believe that I should be condemned for using the bone as I purchased them with the understanding that they were 30 years old and not something currently being produced. If they are indeed tiger bone I’m sure the person that made them 30 years ago didn’t know that there would be so few tigers left at this point in time. I’m just trying to produce a nice product with an antique/vintage flair. Last year I received a 10,000 year old mammoth tusk ivory snuff spoon as a gift and when I saw these I thought they would be a nice addition to a snuffbox. I have been looking into other material options and hope to have something available in the near future.

P

Very hard to communicate with them and any real dialogue has been nil. They do still sell them but I see they just say ‘bone’ snuff spoons now. They may be avoiding animal rights types or something.” No wonder. Even China has made trade in tiger parts illegal (although some here clearly consider it jolly to slaughter an endangered species for the mere sake of a spoon). Let’s hope no one from the IFAW reads about your trafficking. They might, from your point of view, express a very unwelcome interest .

P

How much are the boxes and spoons selling for?

M

Wow, nice boxes. I hate that people are turning on you Patrick. People are weird.

T

Give Patrick a brake, I can’t believe you guys! here he is trying to provide us with Very Nice Functional snuff box with a little history to match the snuff that we put in them, which he has! and I respect him for that! they sell those tiger bone snuff spoons all day on ebay do u think ebay would have that if it was illegal? and also that’s the same exact snuff spoon in all the china snuff bottles! I thank you Pat for your awesome craftmanship and thought you put in these boxes! and also the love you share for them, I am ordering one tomorrow. and don’t worry your not going to jail

Z

Now I can see why you scoffed at my challenge of making a triple compartment snuffbox. Very nice work here! Also, my personal opinion is that the Tiger is dead, the bone has been bought and sold, carved, sold again, bought again, whether or not it’s 30 years old is irrelevant. My feeling is that if these were made out of moosebone or coyote bone, you’d all feel differently. Tigers are big fuck-off cats that kill people. Moose are big fuck off moose that kill you and wreck your car. Sure, maybe tigers are endangered or whatever, but try as hard as we might, we won’t change human nature. PS: They were likely killed by humans for their sexual organs.

I am no expert in the legalities here but have quickly googled to find that trading in Tiger parts is illegal in Chinese and International Law. I do not have the time or capacity to fully research this but there is sufficient doubt in my mind that this trade can not be allowed to happen on this website. If you look into this more deeply and can find any way in which it is permissable then by all means contact Alex with details who may decide to re-open. However as a moderator I can not let this thread remain open at this stage. Closed

A

Closed because Tigers are not be made into spoons.
