A week or two ago someone mentioned wanting to replace his triple tec snuff spoon with something stronger/better. Who was that? I’ve looked high and low for the post but can’t find it. The reason I ask is that I’ve made one and want to send it to that fellow in appreciation for a good idea. So, if it was you please give me a pm with your address, or, failing that, if someone can direct me to that post so I can contact him I’d appreciate it.
I’d love to see what you came up with! Any pics? Wood? Metal? Handmade or machine? I like and chose to use the bone spoons because they are a natural product and are handmade but they do vary quite a bit. Some are too short to even bother putting in these boxes and have to be discarded while others have to be shortened. Also the scoop part of the spoons come in varying lengths and widths as do the handle part of the spoons. And the real wild card is the same spoon may be perfect for one person yet too small or too large for others. I’d hate to go with a mass produced spoon in the tripletech as a standard, but I’d love to be able to direct people to good alternates that work whether they are handmade or mass produced.
I can’t remember the exact thread but it was probably 6 months ago, maybe longer. Somone had machine made with steel some spoons that were custom fit to the tripletech. As I recall only the maker and one other member posted about it.

Hi Patrick, Here’s a pic of the spoon I made. It is hand forged from a piece of sterling wire and just fits in the box with about 1/16" to spare. I am swamped with work so really have little interest in making more of them at this time but they are really simple to make for someone used to working with hand tools… All you really need is a smooth ‘bench block’ of steel to hammer against, a small ball peen hammer with a polished ball end, a piece of wood with about a 1/2" hole drilled in it then sliced longitudinally to give you a dapping block, and some method of polishing–I used a buffing wheel with white diamond compound followed by a tumble in some steel shot to brighten things up a bit more. Oh, and a fine half-round file. As you bang on one end of the wire to flatten it with the ball end of the hammer it will start to dish. If you turn the wire slightly it will dish even more on one side, Then do the other, Lay it in the dapping block and dish it the way you want, file it to shape and polish. It takes about as long to describe the process as it does to actually do it. I used 10-gauge round wire (0.101") for this one. I imagine copper wire would work as well and be pretty too.
Great looking spoon!
Love it! That’s just like my first snuff spoon. And I did use a piece of 10 gauge copper. I’m not much of a metal worker so I just stripped the plastic off, smashed the end flat with a hammer, bent into a cup shape with needle nose pliers and trimmed to size with a regular pair of scissors and sanded the edges with sandpaper. Made a few of them at the time and they were about 5" long so I could scoop out the bottom of an F&T tin.
