I started researching something to take the place of paraffin oil and I kept coming back to Vitamin E. Several sites talk about healing & moisturizing the inside of the nose with it. The other day when I got out of the shower I decided to give it a try before using it in an experiment. I put a small amount on a cotton swab and coated both nostrils. In very little time my nose was clearing itself and after about 20 minutes I blew everything out and my nose felt like new. Totally different than using a neti pot or saline spray. It also proved to me that Vitamin E is a better product than paraffin oil
That sounds like a good way to shmalz the Scotches. The shelf life of vitamin E would be around one and a half to two and a half years. Very long but not as long as paraffin oil in which manufacturers rely.
I can understand that @Juxtaposer but I work on recipes that require one small can of American scotch at a time. I have no plans that far in the future (laughing) But seriously, @Juxtaposer is one of the best in this forum that studies ingredients and affects
I find my morning walk ~4miles always clears the old nose out like new. Maybe its the cold Scottish weather?
Hmmm, vitamin E or an 800 mile drive to Scotland and back every day… Tough choice.
I may try that on some of the Sternecker’s Dry Schmalzler I have left.
@Faust Be careful on the amount because a little goes a loooong way. The stuff is like clear axle grease (laughing)
@MattheFox: I agree that when it comes to vitamins that a little goes a long way. About twenty years ago, back when I smoked, the buzz was that smoking damage could be mitigated, if not stopped, by mega-dosing on vitamins A,C, and E. Then, a few years later it turned out that the people who were megadosing on these vitamins actually increased their chances of health problems. My guess is that the human body simply didn’t evolve to handle these vitamins in massive quantities. I’d say use vitamin E, but in moderation.
@MattheFox Been recommended vitamin E in a different thread, is it oil or cream that you used?
@Bizzle Pure Vitamin oil is the best (IMO) If you can’t find it local, try buying the vitamin in the capsule and put a pin hole in the end and squeeze it out (costs a lot more that way) With the Orioles image I believe you are from Maryland? I got mine at Food Lion but I am sure Walmart has it also
@Matthefox You’d be forgiven for thinking I’m from Maryland, but actually I’m from the UK. Just one of the few British baseball fans! I should be able to get the oil online
Damn, I thought I had a brother from another mother (laughing, a related joke) I grew up in a neighborhood called Westport in Baltimore. Before you waste good money online, go to your local drug store

Actually, there is no way a person could overdose on vitamins. The body will simply use what it needs and eliminate the rest through your waste (urine/stool). It does not overwork any organs in filtrating them through the body so there would be no undue stress on the liver, kidneys or digestive tract either.
@snuffnpuff Actually… http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2010/11/30/can-too-much-vitamin-d-be-hazardous-to-your-health/ http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/features/effects-of-taking-too-many-vitamins http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/can-much-vitamin-b6-vitamin-b12-6060.html Found these by a quick google Not my opinion but a quick search
Now Vitamin E facts (not my own but it was one of my sources to use it) http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/ART02813/facts-about-vitamin-e
@Matthefox Thanks for pointing that out. I was just going off of what my college professor in serology/immunology told us. She may have been wrong though but I do know it would be very difficult to overdose due to the body constantly trying to balance itself out and eleminating the excessive vitamins.
