Hello all ! I am sure most of you are familiar with it. The thing is , I still dont understand it. I am already half a can in , and I wonder if I am doing something wrong. The scent doesnt last too long at all (3-5 minutes) , and seems to hit my throat frequently. I refined my technique abit ( inhaling VERY lightly from back on the hand ) , but any other method seems to hinder the scent (cant really smell it at all ). Ayone else ran in such troubles ?

I use Spanish Gem as an occasional snuff (like a fine white chocolate I think) and I pinch it. I think its quite good, I havent experienced any problems and I find the scent quite long lasting. Have you tried pinching and holding the snuff between your fingers to warm it and rubbing it slightly?

F

never had any problems with it. Its one of my favorites…mmm think ill have a pinch now!

I

I love Spanish gem!! I usually tilt my head back and and put a massive pinch in each nostril then pinch my nose closed for a few seconds then breath deeply. then flavor will usually last for 10 minutes or so for me. i have gone through 3 25g tins in as many months. I just got a new tin recently but I’m forcing myself to use it more as a special treat and not so much an everyday snuff now.

I

I think Ill join in a pinch now tho lol

G

I tried rubbing it , still the same ! I just tried your method , I will see how it goes ? Is it normal for the scent to disappear after a few minutes , becoming very mild ?

I

As I said, for me the flavor last a good 10 mins or so then tapers off. then pinch your nose closed again and give another big sniff

Some people find it difficult to perceive certain scents. It seems to be a genetic quirk. Another possible explanation: are you new to snuff? I’ve read that for some snuffers, certain snuffs don’t “blossom” until one has been snuffing for at least 6 months.

G

Im somewhat new , I think I might need a Neti pot soonish , to help breathe better

S

Personally, I find that Toque snuffs don’t have much staying power. That is, the scent will dissipate very rapidly. Whilst I find Spanish Gem delicious, 3 - 5 minutes is about on par with the time I’d expect the scent to remain.

B

Me too! I’m lucky if I can still detect a sent 2-3 minutes after use. This is true for pretty much any snuff (except for WoS Extra Menthol!), and is entirely down to my crappy olfactory apparatus…I have a family history of nasal and sinus trouble!

P

I sometimes prefer the sent to disapate faster, sometimes when they linger the get nausiating. As far a Toque goes, i have never tryed Gem, but, try the Champagne! Its more of a sensation along w/a sent and really quite a joy.

I’m a big fan of this snuff. Being newbish, I also find that I overshoot from time to time and get a bit too far back, however, this is usually after a pinch has been in for a few minutes and not immediate. Luckily, this is not a snuff which leads to a terrible drip. I am wondering if you live in a drier climate or spend a lot of time indoors with AC. When I am at work, the air is circulated and very dry, leading to a less perceptible scent. When I step outside, into the Florida humidity, the flavor increases substantially and lasts much longer.

S

… jaysnuffy … with all snuffs, i get the same reaction … the minute i step outside, no matter how much time has passed since i felt the scent had dissipated, it magically reappears outdoors. quite nice.

B

I also get the same effect when stepping out into the cold air here. Snuffing indoors before a stroll always feels good.

G

While I love spanish gym , it dissipates in 2-3 minutes. Other snuff lasts a while longer. The ones I have are MCCrystals Menthol , F&T Princes Special and Poschl Gletscger Prise

B

i noticed more natural scents don’t last very long. Natural as in more tobacco based. Not a hard and fast rule but. One of my favs is toque natural and that doesn’t last long. Which is odd to me because in most snuffs when the scent wears off I always smell the tobacco scent. Then again scent fatigue is how your body works. Any scent will get weaker the more expoused you are too it. This is how when you visit the atlantic ocean you smell dead fish in about an hour or so you don’t smell anything odd. This is another reason to switch through your snuffs. Also why a snuff can really expand and show a diffrent side after snuffing all day.

S

@Vathek … by all means … send me your Toques, mate!!

G

I think I solved the riddle . I moistened the Spanish gem abit , then started using Menthol in between as a palate cleanser ! The only way I found that worked is the back of the hand approach for some reason ! Anyone else moisten their snuffs?

I

Nope. Not I

M

If they are dried-out more than they ought to be

T

@Gax1985 I like to moisten mcchrystal hop just a little.

G

It seems if you moisten it it would less likely hit the throat !
