A triumph. Like graham crackers to the nose. Tons of Vitamin N. A toast that you almost want to lick off your fingers after a pinch. This is by far one of Toque’s BEST snuffs. I’m loving it! It has climbed to #3 on my list!! Toque Whiskey and Honey Toast. What do you guys think?
I think everyone should have a mason jar of this one!
I agree with you Whalen I’ll always have a jar at hand and its so much better fresh from the jar
One of life’s little pleasures is a hit of freshly decanted W&H, actually it is better after breathing a couple of hours, it stays ammonia fresh in the jar! Actually I hate to broach this subject here, but I will tip back in snuff that has been too long in the box. Then scoop it back first the next time, it is as good as new again. I think this is perfectly acceptable, but I am sure the purists demure.
@Whalen, that’s exactly what I do. Leave the “old” stuff with the fresh bulk and take it out again tomorrow or 2 days after. Batteries charged!!
@pieter - Welcome back! Yeah it works perfect for me. I have so much bulk that I am starting to “obsess” about keeping it, I read somewhere where the shelf life is four years, I think that that would vary by Snuff and the conditions. I am doing my part by snuffing it as fast as I can, but that half price Wilson’s sale put me a bit behind the eight ball. Oh well, time will tell.
Toque Whisky & Honey - to my mind - is probably the finest snuff ever made. It’s absolutely perfect for me, I can quite happily take this this all day every day. Definitely my desert island snuff.
@ Vathek, yes, if you don’t like the fresh ammonia smell leave it open, but keep on checking it. You can easy over do it and end up with dry old snuff with no flavour.
certainly a most pleasant snootful.
Spanish Gem is not a toast, as I recall, but I haven’t been into that one in a long time. I may have to visit the cellar later and fill a box of it. I agree with the consensus on Whisky & Honey. It took me awhile to come around to it, but fluffing it up was what really brought out the scent for me. I had be taking it straight out of the tin, as tightly packed as it was delivered.
I never actually leave a snuff “open”, putting it into the wood snuff box is enough “breathing” I open it enough to get it “aired” out quickly, usually the same day. W&H is a very sensitive snuff.
It’s pretty good. I will definitely order more when I run out, but it’s no Toque Original.
That’s not a fair comparison though, considering Toque Original is an SP…
For example I really like Whiskey and Honey and find Toque Original to be o.k… I’ve never tried another snuff like the whiskey and honey the original is just another S.P. and could easily be replaced (for example if grand cairo and Tom Buch disappeared I’d be fine with Toque Original.)
I agree with bob - there is no real comparison to W&H, it’s a one of a kind snuff.
it’s a favorite.
@bob that’s what I was thinking lol Toque original is great but it’s just another SP. It’s no W&H though
I like the original and the spanish gem but I LOVE the W&H. Its my current favorite, hands down, no contest. I’ve yet to try a snuff that is as flavorful as this. Sweet and pungent and delicious! Perfect balance of sweetness. The stuff really grows on you. At first I wasn’t crazy about it and the more I used it…the more I fell in love. Its all I’ve been using for weeks, besides the occassional O&G to clear me up a bit.
W&H is one of my favorites. Definitely one that I don’t want to run out of. As a rule, one of the chambers of my Patrick Collins double is dedicated to it. I love its wonderful, smokey whiskey redolence wrapped in light, sweet honey. To me its whiskey note is almost a smokey bourbon. I actually get more of a whiskey sensation from this than I do from Toque’s Bourbon.
In the toast/Scotch category, W&H is one of my favorites. It’s one of the few that I enjoy snuffing all by itself. Most toasts/Scotches I prefer to use as blending ingredients.
