TOQUE TINS

I discovered something which I’d like to share. Some of the Toque tin’s lids tend to “slip” and cannot be closed tight. I was on the point of discarding two of these tins when I decided to swop the lids and whalla!!! Both lids close properly now and are perfect.

An old problem, the aluminium is just to thin and you get warping. I found the old style tins just about un-useable, but the new twist tops solved a lot of that. Just proves the value of a good snuff box…

Yes Two of the old tins jammed on me, so I had to use grips to open them and of cause ruined the tins altogether. The new tins are a lot better.

Agreed, the new tins keep the snuff in good shape, are secure in the pocket, and you don’t lose snuff when you open the tin. Hopefully the coating flaking will be fixed somehow as well.

I’ve only had about 4 tins with this problem (slipping lids). The main benefit for me is the fact that one can open the tin without spilling, even when it’s full. You try open a McChrystals or WoS tin without spilling and I will show you a dollar. If I get another tin with a problem like this, I’m going to try the super glue trick like with the Patrick boxes. I’m going to place a tiny bit of super glue in the threads and see what happens. Roderick, can you tell us how far you got with the Toque “snuffboxes” please?

Hi Pieter, if you mean about the flaking, I’ve only had one, because I was doing some work with the tin in my pocket. I think the flexing and crushing twists the tins and makes the laquer chip off. If you don’t carry them in a tight pocket you probably won’t ever see this happen. But it’s a shame, because the tins are so nice and make it easy to carry Toque.

>>I know this is probably more info than a private company needs to say, but I would rather we were too transparent than hide anything. @Roderick.Because of this I’m going to scrounge up some money and place another order and distribute it among interested friends even though i have plenty of toque snuff for myself. If there’s anything other than good service that i like in a company , it’s transparency. Having to deal with nothing but bullshit from the companies and people around me all of my life has made me really appreciate such things.

The Toque tins are a lot better than any of the other brands for the simple reason that they keep the snuff very well. The old style other brand tins are next to useless, so even with a few fails you are ahead of the game. Personally I would like the packaging to be simple poly bags for all weights and the introduction of the heavy duty embossed can you mentioned (the Toque ‘snuffbox’) I remember people using the same old tobacco tin for years for pipes and roll-ups and just re-filling, so would bags not be a viable way forward?

i just wanted to say i give the toque tins an A+ compared to other brands, even considering the occasional tin that doesn’t want to thread quite right.

Roderick, I love your snuff so much, any tin issues is just not gonna interfere with that love. Keep up the great work.

Just to chime in, I’ve only had threading problems on the 10g tins. The 25g ones work perfectly every time for me.

I’ll add my voice to the general choir of approval - I’ve hard one Toque tin that arrived crushed and I reckon that was the post office mishandling the package. Even then very little snuff was lost. No problems otherwise at all.

you’ve got a better post office then me! I never get an uncrushed tin :(. I imagine a gorrilla squezing my deliveries to check the content.

I use a small Toque tin, with label removed as a cheap it doesnt matter if I lose it box for work.
