Toque SP extra

C

Just received my fiirst toque order in a year. Not because I don’t love toque, along with Wilsons it’s my favourite. I simply has so much stock I had to work through it to make some room. Anyway, two new tins alongside my favourites, Violet, which is superb and SP extra which is also great but has a distinctive taste I just can’t place. I am sure folks on here have tried this one so what should I be tasting?

J

Everyone’s nose is different, but what I get from Toque SP Extra is a great deal of bergamot - it’s what is used to flavour Earl Grey tea, if you are trying to place the scent.

C

Thanks Justin. Now you mention it that’s definately something I’m picking up. Maybe a little ammonia too and unless i’m wrong it’s got a good NIC hit too.

S

It’s bergamot, huge great whacking amounts of wonderful bergamot! I love it! You always get some ammonia with toque as it’s always fresh as can be if you get it direct from toque, oddly I like the ammonia scent mixed with the bergamot.

J

If the ammonia is obscuring any of the other scents and you want to get rid of it, just leave the tin lid open for a few hours. Ammonia is quite volatile and will evaporate quicker than any moisture so you don’t need to worry about your snuff going dry.

C

Thanks all. I’ve been on this all day today and I really like it. Thanks for the advice re leaving the lid off for a bit. Did this in the am and it’s mellowed nicely. I always buy direct from the supplier, their service is excellent.

I detected bergamot/citrus. The latest order from Toque came via economy bags that had a slight ammonia odor, but after putting a day’s supply into my expedient “snuff box” I let it air for perhaps 15 minutes and that smell is gone. I do think the scent is a bit lighter in this batch than I first experienced when I got my first taste via a bullet, but I still very much like this one. I have used it in a 50/50-ish mix with Toque Natural.

K

A Toque masterpiece! The bergamot and citrus balance perfectly. For what it’s worth, I find that after going a few hours without snuff, SP Extra smells like Froot Loops cereal.

C

It’s becoming a new favourite with me. That and Toque Violet which is fantastic

I don’t get any other citrus than bergamot in SP Extra, I do however notice a substantial lavender component which I do not detect in Toque’s regular SP, Original.

S

I think a lot of people confuse the bergamot with another citrus scent, that’s what bergamot smells like it is an orange after all. @Xander I get lavender as well but not huge amounts, just a background element with the bergamot at the front. Original is just a biscuity bergamot to me and that’s it.

I

I confuse bergamot with lavender all the time. Ever time I smell Earl Grey tea I smell lavender. I do get orange from my sp extra not just bergamot though. Really great snuff though. Best of the SPs I have tried so far.

The aroma from this scent is really nice. It’s just a little too finely ground for my nose. I can only use it comfortably if I already have a coarser snuff in there, which means it’s difficult for me to truly enjoy it as a stand alone snuff. Even though it’s one I can’t fully appreciate myself, I’d still recommend it for everyone else to try.

My favorite true SP by far … @Roderick has the bergamot just right
