Toque Rustica vs. 41 Photo WE vs. Taxi Red

As I’ve not tried Toque Rustica, I was wondering if anyone could give me feedback on the Vitamin N content as opposed to 41 Photo White Elephant and Taxi Red. Forgive me if this was asked elsewhere in some form.

I’ve not ordered Taxi Red yet so I can’t speak to it.

41P WE certainly gets me buzzin’.  On par with a morning cigarette when I was a smoker.  Oddly enough, I think my Garrett Sweet hits harder than White Elephant.  I expect everyone’s experience is a little different.  Example: One of the hardest hitters for me is JH Wilson Top Mill No.1, and I don’t think that is known to be a strong one.

That said… Rustica is on a whole 'nother level.  It’s almost a different sensation than I typically feel from nicotine.  More cerebral, less body… and the rumors are true… it’s a crazy dream machine.  I cracked open my Rustica bag for the first time yesterday and anticipated a difficult, stinky snuff-- but it’s actually very pleasant to take, and I really enjoy the scent.  It smells like berries to me.  Perhaps my impression will change over time.

On (my) Vitamin N scale:
41P WE is an 8 out of 10
Rustica is a technicolordream out of 10

Don’t know about Taxi - never tried it so can’t comment, but SHbickel’s ( sorry don’t know how to do that ‘@’ thing) assessment is spot on. I find that the nicotine blast from W.E. to be pretty instant and strong - quicker and more potent than a cigarette. Rustica is somewhat more subte but don’t be fooled. It’s tobacco Jim but not as we know it. Because the first doses aren’t so immediate, the desire for more sucks you in then the cumulative effects of several hits come on with all the finesse of a supervolcano and you end up either couch-locked or going about your business with barely a grip of what you’re doing. Either way the ensuing dreams are memorable and spectacular. Only for use when you know you don’t have to have your wits about you, IMO.

As I understand it nicotiana rustica has some different alkaloids than nicotiana tabacum along with a hefty dose of nicotine. The alkaloids give a slightly different effect when taken as snuff and it will knock you off your feet if you smoke it.

Toque Rustica is plenty strong snuff and I would rate it higher than the other two. I think the fine grind of WE accounts for it’s heavy nic hit. Taxi Red must contain some strong tobacco and its grind/moisture allows for large quantities to be taken so you get its effects that way.

If you want to explore rustica snuffs Toque USA Whiskey & Honey contains rustica and is a pretty heavy hitter. I think some of the Sir Walter Scott’s snuffs have rustica as well.

@crullers I’ve got some Toque Whiskey & Honey, but it’s still unopened. Guess I’ll be opening it today. Thanks everybody for the feedback. Looking forward to seeing what Rustica is all about.

@Tobe: There are two Whiskey & Honey’s. The original does not contain rustica but the USA Whiskey & Honey does. Both are great snuffs.

Bedtime soon, no work tomorrow. Hitting the rustica tonight in the hope of provoking the sort of planet-colliding dreams of last time. Feel like I’m inside a video game already. G’night everyone.

Does anybody know how much rustica as % is used in W&H USA?

I’m curious too

Well Roderick you are the Master of Rustica and W&H USA is one of your bests. I don’t ask you for the exact recipe, just about the average content of rustica in it. I guess it is about 30%

Why is the rustica not sold in smaller sizes?

Yeah that’s also good question. It will be very nice to have some rustica in 5 or 10 gr tins - just to test it.

@crullers I’ve got the USA version. I’m going to be getting some Rustica with my next order. 'Nuff said.

Ouchh that is really problematic rustica is hard material to handle with.

Funny, I’ve always felt luke warm about rustica. It just doesn’t taste like tobacco to me, and I don’t even seem to get the nicotine hit that people talk about. I keep some in an airtight jar, but I haven’t made much of a dent in it. I get a spinach-compost scent from it.

When I was in Hanoi, I tried the water pipes of the rustica they use over there. It made my head spin, which I guess is nicotine, but I didn’t enjoy it. I had to wait about 20 minutes before I felt safe to take a motorbike back onto the roads. And I often smoke strong pipe tobacco and take other strong snuffs. Just something in rustica that doesn’t agree with me.

I think Toque Rustica is very potent. And it’s very pleasant as well, though it really makes my nose run. I only use it once in a while, but I like it as much as the W and H, which I also use only occasionally. They are both great, but I find them a little too strong to use regularly. For my main high nicotine snuff I prefer Taxi Red.
