My favorite toast of all time is Pure Virginia Toast by the late, great Chef Dan. However, since I have an order of Toque Natural Toast on the way, I was wondering how it compared to F&T HDT (which I love for its light smokiness and buttery finish)?

Older post but just got the toque natural toast for the first time and if you’re still around I think you’ll like it if you like the HDT. I’d say it’s very similar but more tobaccoish then the HDT though with a bit of nuttiness and butter. The smokiness isn’t initally more present but after a few pinches I’d say it’s a stronger smoke smell more then a greater degree of smokiness.

I like both but feel they’re kinda different. But I must say, if you haven’t done the TNT in a while- it’s pretty amazing snuff. The HDT is classic snuff. It’s time tested and the reference point for a lot of generations so you must compare to it.

certainly, I would be happy with a pile of either snuff. Though the TNT as it is apparently called is my more preferred. As a note it took me a while to try either as I was told the HDT was not for beginners and when I finally tried it I realized no it’s not harder to take then other snuffs if anything a little easier for me. Though if I really have to pick out the difference the smoke in the TNT is more oaky then whatever the smokiness in the HDT. I think the TNT also has more of a bite too it, which only makes sense in reference to the HDT. Certainly my favorite of the two but I wouldn’t question anyone who like the HDT better. It’s really a new favorite to be honest and is a great all day snuff.

My opinion is it is more comparable to IHT 22. I go back and forth between these two everyday all day. I prefer Toque more. HDT is way milder and way less smokey or toasted than either of the other two.

I haven’t tried the toque natural toast yet, but the HDT is what I’ve been using instead of OM PVT. Not the same but still good.

I would also say that TNT is much more like WoS IHT #22 than it is to F&T HDT, I prefer the latter as I find it more mellow but TNT is still a top notch toast and one that I keep in bulk.

Though both great snuffs. I prefer the TNT its just a little bit more full bodied in a sense

Personally I find the TNT to be more similar to HDT than to IHT #22.  (In fact I love both HDT and TNT but am not a fan of the IHT #22; tried it several times but just couldn’t get into it like the others.)  

Just goes to show how subjective tastes are, I guess.
