Toque fruit flavours

T

I’ve only just discovered the wonder that is Toque snuff recently. I have tried the Toffee, Espresso, Vanilla, Whisky & Honey, Peanut Butter and Champagne (thanks, Roderick!) varieties and am really enjoying them. I’d like to try a fruit flavoured snuff, and as Toque seem to capture scents so well I thought I’d try a couple from their range. Any suggestions?

P

StClements and St Clements and…Pomegranate and St Clements.

P

Sorry, I forgot about Blueberry!! And, of course, St Clements

T

So you’re partial to a bit of St Clements then, Pieter?

J

You can’t go wrong with st. clements. If you would like a fantastic fruit cocktail get the 5 for 4 25g pack with st. clements, grapefruit, cherry, raspberry, and absinthe + some pomegranate. I posted the proportions on the “toque cocktails” thread. You can do it with or without the pomegranate; it is great both ways. It took me a bunch of tries to get it right and I snuff a wilsons snuffbox a week.

S

I love all the natural ones. I have Pomegranate today. Very, very nice. Seriously, just go for it, free post and all. I still have to try the menthol fruities, but I’m not a menthol fan. I suspect they are excellent as well.

T

Blueberry, pomegranate, raspberry, grapefruit are all very good.

T

Thanks, chaps. I was definitely going to try St Clements, but Jarhog’s suggestion sounds good - a fruit cocktail up my nose - mmmmmm…

T

I think I’m gonna stick with the natural fruit flavours before I head over to fruit menthols - I could always mix them with a little O&G or SM if I felt like a little added mentholation, couldn’t I?

A

if you like the toasts go for Toast & Marmelade ! Wonderful!

T

I just got a delivery of Grapefruit, St Clements, Raspberry, Pomegranate and Cherry, which are at home airing (although I couldn’t resist taking a little bottle of St Clements to work with me - boy that’s some tasty snuff!) and I’ll try them all out tonight when I get in. I may well make Jarhog’s cocktail too.

S

Raspberry is one of my personal favorites. I am waiting for my Pomegranate to come in the mail. I have tried all of them (and their menthol counterparts), aside from Pomegranate, and I have to say that Raspberry is probably the best. Just my opinion. =] ~Snuffy

T

They are all excellent so far. Raspberry is particularly good - a really fresh, natural raspberry aroma with a good solid tobacco base. Can’t fault it.

T

I was just perusing the Toque site, looking to get a nice big economy bag of Toast & Marmalade, but it doesn’t seem to be listed - Is this an oversight, do you think?

M

I asked Roderick the same question a while back, he sold me a 50g bag, even though it wasn’t listed. Have you tried the Bourbon yet Toffee? I think it’s my favorite Toque, at this minute!

T

Yes, I have got a 50g bag in my Toque basket as we speak - I love all their toasts. I just emailed Roderick, hopefully I’ll be able to get a bag of T&M, perhaps one of Spanish Jewel as well - that is one fine snuff!

M

I’m jealous, I haven’t tried the SJ yet. I’m waiting for the new Dholakia’s to arrive, then i’ll place an order from Tom or Dave.

T

Just heard from Roderick - it appears that the acid from the fruit juices make the bags used for the economy packages unsound - they swell and split, rather like orange juice expands in a container if left too long. So, he’s going to put 50g in a tub for me, which is most excellent customer service, PLUS he’ll send me a replacement Spanish Jewel 10g tin as my last one was squashed in transit. I cannot stress how brilliant Roderick & the guys at Toque are - exemplary service every time. Thanks!

M

You’re right, i just double checked, I got the W & H in a 50g bag, T & M in a 25g tin. Sorry for the mis-information!

X

Toque Pomegranate: best fruit snuff, hands down! Their citrus flavors rank second, then the berries. Don’t care for cherry much at all.

B

I like the cherry menthol a lot. It wasn’t even my pick, I got it for my girlfriend. Love it though.

S

I agree bob, the Cherry Menthol is one of my favourite daytime snuffs. Didn’t think it would be when I bought it (it was the last flavour I tried from the 10 sample pack I bought). Not so sure of the Raspberry Menthol though.

X

Hmm, I wasn’t including the menthols in my evaluation. I’ll have to revisit them soon.

B

the cherry ment is really very awesome. Reminds me of a dark cherry more then most snuffs do. There is also a very woody scent to it well noticable really not really in the forefront ever.

T

I liked the Blueberry Menthol. I have the Grapefruit and Pomagranite on the way. Usually I like fruit along with menthol. Like Wilsons Raspberry, which doesn’t say menthol, is very good and strong, and has a strong menthol in it. Yet, McChrystal’s Raspberry didn’t really impress me, and isn’t mentholated. I think a grape menthol would be good.

S

The cherry menthol is the Toque fruit menthol that really hits the mark in my opinion. The pomegranate is makes me feel queasy for some reason and it is very sweet . Haven’t tried the grapefruit, sounds interesting, but I recall I said the same thing about the pomegranate prior to ordering it.

S

I like all the Toque that I’ve tried Must say I’ve been hitting the Pomegranate of late, funny because I just cant stand the fruit!

B

My favorites of fruit snuff by Toque are the St. Clements and the Cherry. St. Clements to me is the best of the bunch, reminds me a bit of Packards Club. Also like the Blueberry quite a bit. The pomegranite may be my least favorite even though it is not that bad. I have noticed with the menthol fruits, that if you buy a tin of menthol and the plain fruit snuffs you can mix the fruit with the menthol at about a 5 to 1 ratio fruit to menthol and have very close to the same thing as ordering the menthol fruits. Good way to save some money and also have the best of both snuffs.

X

Pomegranate is still my favorite. Seems to be mixed opinions on this. Roderick, if you read this, would it be giving too many secrets away if you told us what the best selling of your snuffs is, and the least? Or possibly rank them all in terms of sales? I’m very curious.

S

I would guess the best selling snuff was Whisky & Honey myself. I have noticed people raving about it on other forums as well.

X

Just to clarify, Pomegranate is my favorite of the fruit varieties, which was the topic of the thread. I guess I should have started a new thread for the more general question. Whisky & Honey…the jury is still out on this one for me. Quit, Natural, Original, St. Clements, Grapefuit, Chocolate, and Toast & Marmalade are all keepers. Peppermint and Xmas Pudding are possible re-orders. Is there a difference between Peppermint and Snus Ice? Also have not yet tried Spanish Gem or Menthol.

B

Peppermint used to be called Snus Ice, the name was changed awhile back to avoid confusion.

S

Menthol is a very good one, but it is just menthol, and I am partial to menthol very now and again. Spanish Gem was disappointing for me - too sweet. But I think Xander you will like Spanish Gem (if you like Champagne, Chocolate or Pomegranate) - it tastes like chocolate, vanilla and honey to me.

B

love the toffee it’s an amzing snuff.

B

Glad to see Quit near the top of those lists as it is one of my current favorites.

S

Industro, welcome to the forums. The Peanut butter and grapefruit are amazing, you will surely love them. You can’t find more authentic flavors than Toque. My favorite Toque is the Whiskey and Honey Toast but I like all I’ve tried except the Espresso, which I just don’t get any flavor from.

T

I like all the Toques I have. Some I like more than others, and certain flavor blends I may like another companies more, but I don’t dislike any of the Toques and I will finish them all. I think I like Toast&Marmalade a little bit more thanWhisky&Honey, and I am really looking forward to the Bourbon, which is on it’s way.

S

The Quit is a good snuff for dealing with nicotine cravings, and I have added a tonka bean to my tin to add some flavour. It has worked out well. Snuff Store (UK) is currently selling tonka beans if anyone’s interested. It has a spicy vanilla flavour.

X

So I’ll have to get another order at Snuff Store and get a tin of Snus Ice for my collection, and a tonka bean! Industro, the ones you didn’t care for I didn’t care for so much either, but I do love Toque. I think 5 or 6 of them are ones I wil always have to have around me. Of course, they are sall still good and I like them enough to finish the tins, its just a matter of refining my preferences. That’s interesting data Roderick. Hopefully when the other flavors have been established a while longer you can give us some more equalized data. Or come up with an algorithm that computes a handicap to compensate for time on the market. Maybe a quarterly trend will give us a better picture than a weekly one. Also are any selling so poorly that you might consider discontinuing them? Mabye the Snus Ice had this issue, so now is why its a limited availablity one? Someday maybe you’ll be a publicly traded company and you’ll have to give shareholders this hard data. (Oh, Chocolate is outstanding. I’ve been recommending it all over the place, so you can thank me for its jump to #3 ;-D )

X

Roderick does it right, that’s for sure. Though one nice thing I can say about Pöschl, is that when I asked for samples, they sent 7 full tins. Very generous, but I guess they can afford to be. So getting off topic a little further (as I usually do) how widely available are the smaller German companies snuffs such as Bernard and Lotzbeck in Germany? Can they be found in any oridinary store, or only at tobacconists, or are they generally only found in some regions of the country?

J

The best Toque fruits in MHO are St. Clements and raspberry. I think I have used more St. Clements than any other single snuff.

A

No menthol in pappermint ? nice i will order a tin soon , i just received a tin of snus ice from Tim and i think the same flavour without mint will be even better!

J

Try releasing another snuff Roderick, and take a look at those sales! No…really, we’re waiting.

X

Just looking at the Toque website. It says over 30 flavours available! I count 25 listed on the main page, then add Christmas Pudding which is listed in the specials for 26. Add Snus Ice from Snuuf Store and you get 27. So what are the at least 4 other flavors that I don’t know about? hmmm?

X

Yikes, would the Germans and Austrians have a fit if Toque made a schmalzer? Well, they call one “snus” though by the common definition its not really snus although I guess it it by the literal definition. I’m sure Roderick would do a good job of it if he wanted to make one though. Have we exhausted the possible fruit flavors? What about Apricot? Everybody seems to have one. Is that a reason not to do it? I suspect he’s going to do some florals (as he has none!) or vary the grinds a bit more to compete with F&T and Frederick Tranter. Or maybe he’ll do a Scotch! Roderick is a known Levi Garrett lover. A Scottish Scotch! What a concept! I understand how it must be in your business, Industro. I suspect it must be the same here, except that I don’t think the distributors try as hard to push snuff. Also the Americn snuffs don’t have a lot of variety, most have a similar characteristics with a handful of exceptions. Lets face it, the English have better snuffs than either of our countries, though the two Bernard’s I’ve had were fantastic. Kostlich means delicious, right? They’re not joking. So there’s plenty of demand for them in this house!

S

It’s obviously a labor of love for Roderick and that’s why we love him!

P

Roderick, if you ever decide to drop St Clements, please notify me before hand so that I can order enough stock to last me a lifetime. I’m into that lovely stuff right now and will be for the rest of the day!!! I love it more than any other citrus flavoured snuff.

T

What about using or making a smaller tin/can specially for samples, like the little McChrystal’s Raspberry tin? or even a small plastic smash can? Something simple, cheap, and small enough, that would be used up quick, and have the user wanting more, have a small printed name sticker on it too. I personally don’t care much about samples, as snuff to me is so inexpensive as it is, I just buy it. But for those who see the need of samples, I think a specially used, smaller container would be best. Not a special manufacture, could be any small container that gets the job done, and has an area for a sticker. Just my idea, but like I said, I just buy the stuff myself, but the sample container needs to be really small, so it empties quick.

B

I second what Pieter said. If St. Clements is on the block I need to order a bunch. Let me know. My snuff drawer is a bit light right now. I have 2 Wilsons varieties, 1/2 can of Fubar and 11 Toque tins. Roderick hooked me with the free sample. I have tried probably 50 types of snuff so far, and Toque is the one company that I buy from consistently. I honestly feel I don’t need any other manufactures. Yes, I like having options, but with Toque I don’t need them.

S

Industro you would be surprised, some of Roderick’s best customers and strongest advocates are old farts. Don’t count the old timers out when you are talking about snuff- it’s a traditional product, not something new. Young may work with McDonalds but look to the old guys when you start talking snuff!

S

The other thing about growth is quality invariably suffers. I can’t speak for Roderick but maybe he would be happier with making the best snuff possible and having more money than he can count than he would mass-marketing snuff and having more money than his accountants can count. A lot of tough choices for every growing business. Doing expansion wrong has killed more businesses than almost anything else.

B

Roderick wrote: Regarding the over 30 flavours we will be launching four more flavours next week and another four, depending on what the tasting panel conclude, late next month. This statement has caught my attention…really looking forward to this as I was planning on placing an order next week anyway as I am all out of Quit.

T

Many labels have a lot of variety. Dholakia seems to have many more than anyone. And their various label names. Kinda confusing to some, but still all good stuff.

J

Roderick - I am trying to convince a tobacco shoppe here in Garland TX to stock yours instead of the wilsons they have now. They don’t have any of the wilsons that I like and I told them I for one would buy from them if they had Toque. It would be so nice to be able to drive 20min and restock my supply. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

C

I’m interested to see what these new flavors are. I’ll have to wait to make my order.

S

Roderick, that’s what I thought. I wish you the best and hope you make a great business and never stop supplying us with your fantastic snuff!

S

Industro it would be interesting to see the actual stats. Snuff has been made for probably 500 years and some of the companies in business today are more than 250 years old. I would bet their average customer is over 30, but I have no way to really know. Old snuffers never die! The few old firms don’t seem to worry about staying in business. Ask the guys here, anybody who does business with them directly is treated like they’re doing us a favor! I guess they figure it worked for the last two hundred years, it will work 200 more. That’s not how I would run a business, but that’s pretty much the way they do.

P

As long as we have Roderick on OUR side, we have nothing to fear. We will ALWAYS have the best snuff available at our doorstep. And I don’t think he needs advice from any of us as to how he should run his business. It’s clear as daylight that he is a successful businessman, a Master Snuff Creator - MSC - and totally devoted to his job and clients.

T

I love the Toque snuffs and am eagerly awaiting my mail, even though I already have a bunch now. I am think I am more addiected to buying snuff, with so much available than I am to the snuff itself. My top 2 company snuff makers I have bought of, are Toque and Dholakia.

S

I too love the st clements, both this and the grapefruit actually make my mouth water, this happen to anyone else i wonder?.As for the free samples i think the 10 tins for the price of 9 is more than generous and i think there is a 5 for 4 on the 25g tins too. Sadly in this day and age the ‘free sample’ phenom is open to abuse and i think roderick has already had experience of this?. Keep up the great work roderick and looking forward to the new ones. Simon

T

Samples should be like 1 gram, a sample. Enough to know you like it and will buy it, as 1g will not last too long. A 10g can lasts me a very long time, esp since I switch off snuffs all the time, and with so many I have, it lasts a very very long time.

C

I can’t wait until these new flavors hit, I’m going to make an order the moment they do.

X

Roderick, don’t you dare cancel St. Clements!

B

Hehehehe I bet next weeks number show St. Clements as the #1 seller…

X

ok, I bet you a tin of st. clements

T

LOL!
