Thank you Roderick for supplying me with this wonderful snuff. Although I did not touch alcohol for more than 15 years, I can stiil remember the smell of a superiour brandy after it’s been swirled in a balloon glass, heated slightly with the hands. This is the aroma which meets my nose when I open up the tin of Bourbon and smell it. Only difference is the hint of tobacco in the background. Colour of the snuff is blond and the grind is very fine, typical HDT. The first pinch delivers a sweet, almost honey like smell but ,within seconds, the glorious aroma of the bourbon takes over. Now, one must remember that you also taste snuff with the tastebuds on your tongue because the air, which goes through your nose, passes through the rear of your mouth. Be aware of that while taking this snuff. You will TASTE the bourbon! The aroma lingers for a couple of minutes and then slowly fades away like the sun setting over the sea on a beautiful summers day. This is a delicate snuff, one that should be treated with respect. Sit down where you can relax with no interference. Close your eyes and concentrate on what’s happening in your nose, and mouth. Congratulations Roderick, you’ve done a wonderful job when you created this jewel. PS I know bourbon is actually an American Whisky but to me the smell, on opening the tin, is that of very fine, old brandy. It’s only when I take a pinch that I can taste the bourbon.
You are quite right FF. For me, as the bourbon aroma fades, a smokey tobacco flavour comes forth but very faint and not disturbing at all.
PC you have found a way of meditating with snuff. My hat is off to you!
Snuff and meditation go well together.
Agreed this is one fine snuff, I wasn’t getting the bourbon that clearly at first but the more I use it the better it gets. Another must have toast from Toque. There’s a lot of great snuffs coming out lately, hopefully this trend will continue. Toque’s Quit, Bourbon, the FUBARs and hopefully soon Dholakia will release their new line of assorted flavors and a mess of others too lengthy to list…especially from Toque. If the proposed lopsided SCHIP tax schedule gets approved, snuff might even become mainstream with fed up smokers tired of paying everyone else’s taxes. At least they’ll have a great assortment and plenty of snuffs capable of replacing cigarettes. Judging from how it’s laid out now, snuff should increase $1.50 a tin, with no specification on the tin size…
I got some of this, and what do I taste? Bacon. Is it just me? I mean it tastes good, but I was looking for bourbon. I recall people requesting a bacon flavor. It may be close… lol I will let it air a bit and try again. Hee hee, snuff is fun.
Roderick must have mixed up his drink with his breakfast when filling up your tin =) . You should be thankful you didn’t get the fried eggs.
Irish High Toast #22 is what came to mind with it’s smooth mellow toasty taste. The sweet Bourbon scent wins the nose over thereafter. As satisfying as it is to scent my own snuff. I’m happy to know that my sipping whiskey can remain for sipping.
I just got a tin today. It took a few pinches to get used to the different stages and depths of flavour, but Oh. My. God. This is heavenly, wonderful, superlative snuff! First the aroma from the tin is definitely recognisable to me as bourbon. Then, as Pieter says, the first taste is sweetness which is quickly overtaken by the bourbon - it even feels warming, like a shot. There is a definite toasty tobacco flavour underneath and then - the lovely charcoal smokiness to finish, a nice touch as I believe that bourbon barrels are actually ‘toasted’ before being filled with whisky. I’ve never had a ‘smokey’ snuff before, what a fabulous introduction. I strongly urge everyone who hasn’t tried it to order a tin - you won’t regret it. Roderick, you have created another masterpiece!
Just placed my order today for some of this as well as some of the other newer flavors. Looking forward to it as I am a lover of fine Bourbons and Whiskey. Then after reading sprang’s bacon comment I really got excited…I was the bacon snuff advocate a while back hehehe.
Debbie, I agree 100%. Bourbon, W&H and the F&T HDT which I’ve received today are competing with each other to be my favourite!!
I was told the other day to get this. I can’t wait!!
I’m stoked, I just got a tin of this in my recent order, and I’ve found it to be a more straightforawrd version of W&H. Smokey and amazing!
I have mixed feelings on this one. I bought bourbon twice from Roderick, the first time I bought it, it didn’t “WOW” me at all. It had hardly any bourbon scent, and just smelled kinda “toasty”. I just recieved another batch and DAMN SON. I am in love! I get a very peppery hit up front, but after the first nasal exhale I get a very “warming” effect, sort of like I just took a shot! It fades into a scent I remember from working on my grandpa’s farm - We would empty the corn into a corn crib (barn that is filled with corn). I get the same rich scent of corn and a faint scent of something sweet and smoky. It isn’t smoke like any scotch I’ve tried. This snuff is amazing! Hopefully with my next order I get some of th e good batch again, its crazy how different the two were to my nose. GOOD JOB RODERICK! 9.5/10 from me!
I must have gotten an old tin of this. It’s finished now but it wasn’t nearly as amazing as described above. It must have been old because it was tightly compacted in the tin to the point that I had to scrape it out. With my next order I’ll have to get a tin for a second look.
My first tin of this was a 25G tin, it didn’t floor me, but i did like it. Unfortunately it contaminated by storing it together with my violet snuff, noob mistake, rather than save it I destroyed it. I may have to reconsider getting some on my next rder.
I’m a little confused by this one. i get a 100% smokey aroma/flavor. Not sure if I got a bum batch or just have a broken snout. I can get all the other flavors from toques though, so not sure why I don’t get anything but smoke from this one. (like I would name this: so cal beach bonfires)

Hee hee, snuff is fun.
I get a faint bacon scent and a whole lot of bonfire/campfire smoke scent.
I got to say that really do enjoy this one. I feel more like I get aromas of smoke, burning wood, campfire, and some indicators of a Memphis BBQ dry rub, but not so much the scents that I would associate with a bourbon whisk(e)y. Which that is fine by me. Maybe if there were more of hint of rye (which is commonly used in the mashbill on most bourbons) it would be more reminiscent of a bourbon. But aside from that it is some damn good stuff.
Posts are clearly missing in this thread, the second post looks like Pieter is talking to himself :))
