Well todays the day i will try a drops the cigs altogether. just put out my last one now the wife has removed everything todo with cigs. over the last week or so my smoking level droped from 40+ aday down to 5 without trying. As of today i have a good range of snuffs including a few very good coffee`s and the Viking Brown and dark with high Nic levels. I can see myself using around 10 grams a day for the first few weeks and then get it down to a lower level after that. I just wish i had found snuff years ago althe wasted money now gone up in smoke and the time and money spent on NRTs that never even started to work I must have a bin liner full of the stuff patches mints gums and nasel sniffers.
Well done, I am sure you will succeed. Many here have switched from cigs to snuff, it will improve your health and your bank balance.
Carry on!
Wishing you the very best of success in your endeavor. We are all here for you!!! Hang in there…
I am right there with you along with a whole group in this forum that are or have been right where you are now. You can do it!!!
Well done, @BeeMan! Keep up the good work and you’ll be off the cigs for good before you know it.
@BeeMan I wish all the best to you. When you feel the desire for a cig, reach for a pinch and snuff will eventually take over. That’s the way it happened for me.
Congratulations! Lots of former smokers here.
It can be done…and you can do it!!. Every time you feel like a cig, walk out to your hives and administer a sting or two to yourself in sensitive areas until you ‘get your mind straight’.
Congratulations and good luck, BeeMan. I’ve never smoked but I am puzzled why this wonderful, civilised adventure in scent and sensation we have discovered seems to be hushed up as the best way to stop smoking cigaretes - patches and E-cigs get so much press and attention, whereas snuff seems to be kept off the radar.
I’m a former smoker and it can be done. Keep your mind occupied at all times and it will be much easier, in my experience. Work on hobbies, exercise, learn a language or even work. Those gums have to be the worst, they release all their nicotine at once. So you either have to buy ones that are far too weak or far too strong. They always made me feel sick.
@BeeMan You can do it! The transition will be a lot easier now that you have found snuff. Once you become a snuff lover cigarettes will fade away. It will take some time though! Keep up the fight!
Keep up the good fight. I enjoy smoking so I took up the pipe. Like Clinton I don’t inhale. All that money I threw away on packs I now invest in Pipes and still save money for other vices. Best to you for staying butt free. Cigarettes smoking is slavery !
Well the first 24 hours is up and doing ok so far this morning was the worst as i normally spoke around 5 with the first cup of coffee of the day so i snuffed a large amount of SG Black Coffee that did the trick for me. Thanks for the support most welcome :-j This the longest i have gone in the last 30 years without pulling my hair out and being in a foul mood. Savings so far £15 ( on Cigs) Just had another delivery via mrsnuff today so i will be sampling more ABRAXAS today if no one minds i will up date this thread it may help others
Way to go, @BeeMan! After the first week it gets easier, but also oddly more perilous–it’s easy to start up again as time wears on and you are feeling better. I think having snuff will ease some of that. Be resolute and enjoy the snuff, it will be so much healthier for you. As they say in AA, KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid.
@BeeMan Keep up the good work! You can do this! Definitely keep us updated in this thread.
eventualy you’ll just find cigs lame and weak. Seriousily when I smoke one I find myself disapointed in the cig.
Well done and my congratulations. That first smoke of the day is the most difficult to stop so if you managed that with a good dose of snuff then you are well on the your way. I am sure that having a supply of Abraxas will also help. I am sure that no-one will object to you updating us on your progress and I am equally sure that it will help others who are still in the clutches of cigs.
I agree with bob. Instead of viewing cigarettes as the enemy, I began to view them instead as unsatisfactory. The pipe can mitigate some of the need for smoke. Herbal cigarettes can mitigate some of the need for smoke in the lungs. However, once your body learns to expect pleasure from snuff, having cigarette smoke in your lungs won’t be as fulfilling as it once was. You’ll wonder what you ever loved about it. Anyway, it takes time, and if you relapse, don’t drop the snuff. In time it can still take over.
bob & Xander are correct. Don’t force yourself to quit, it will happen naturally as you find pleasure growing with snuff cigarettes just fade because they can not compete with the overall enjoyment. I also like to think about how I can do snuff anywhere, anytime without anyone trying to stop me
Seriousily I never set out to quite smokeing the cigs it kind of happened slowly but steadily. I first started buying snuff so I wouldn’t have to go outside everytime I wanted some nicotine. It took over with the snus I bought so work would be easier.
I got some herbal vapor stones for my hookah the other night. Those really hit the spot for my smoking sensation jones.
@Dogwalla, I never heard of herbal vapor stones. How do they work?
Way to go @Beeman. No regrets about the past or what could of been, only the pleasure of a new found discovery and the joy that snuff can bring. I’m hitting my 3 year anniversary of dropping the cancer sticks. I’ve actually only had a desire to smoke one twice during that time, and you know what? I found it revolting. There is no danger whatsoever of me ever returning to them. You can do it!
@stogie I found out after I bought them that you have to use something called a phunnel bowl. I guess there are other brands, but the concept is that porous rocks are soaked in the flavor/molasses and that’s what makes it stay warm and distribute the stuff pretty even over time. in a regular bowl the juice just runs down the stem, so you need one that kinda looks like a doughnut. I found a ghetto tinfoil hack for it on the interweb that worked like a champ. It was far less messy than using shisha too. I picked mine up at my local gas station/smoke shop (also the only place I can get snuff) on a recommendation. It has really helped me curb the sensation portion of my cig addiction. I’m not quite there yet, I just start every day fresh again. @beeman I’m glad you’re going for it. Lots of people on here have done what you’re doing, and many of us have at least cut our intake a lot. Any improvement should be celebrated!
Thanks @Dogwalla, sounds interresting…
Day 2 still ok started with the SG Black Coffee at around 7am this morning Treated my self to 10 x 25gm tins of black coffee snuff today i was thinking af odering the 250gm or 500gm tubs of SG Black Coffee but after the 10 tag box i was worried that the large tubs may go the same way with them being in plastic? the bulk would have been a few ££s cheaper and being a Yorkshire man living in Scotland this would have been better for my soul has anyone tried the large bulk tubs of smuff and how did you get on? £30 not spent on cigs so far
@Beeman Plastic isn’t necessarily bad, as long as its airtight. I’ve you’ve got a favorite snuff, then bulk purchase is the logical progression. Bulk keeps itself fresher as well, and is more economical, which should fit in with your Yorkshire philosophy. If you find the bulk container not to be airtight, then transfer the contents to an air tight jar. Bail and clamp or kilner jars work well. I, for instance was not satisfied with the 1 pound WOS containers, but I was satisfied with the 1/2 pound ones. Your fellow Yorkshireman @ermtony has a number of good blog posts on bulk storage and use here: http://ermtony.pbworks.com/w/page/23670787/Snuff%20Storage

on to day 3 have been chain snuffing all morning going getting a little tough and then the postman arrived with a delivery of snus! WOW popped one under my top lip the nic has blown my head off but all the urges for a cig went within a round 3 minutes the thing that seemed missing if you know what i mean has gone the snus was 16mg nic and thats more than enough for me you can get 22mg but i think i would be flat on my back £45 saved on cigs so far
You’re through the toughest part now (after ~48 hours physical withdrawal has waned)! This will sound odd, but I also found that some cognitive-existential reframing (say what?) has helped me. That is, you must alter how you see yourself; specifically, as a non-smoker. Having done this, the thought of smoking causes a mild existential crisis (subconscious concern that your not being true to who you are experienced as mild anxiety). Sorry to go all psychologist on you on a Friday morning! Keep up the good work, and be VERY proud of your accomplishment!
@BeeMan Days 3-7 were the hardest for me. Once you’re past a week the worst should be over. The snus will help a lot. I regret starting on the extra strong stuff though. It was good to get me over the hump but if you keep at it your tolerance increases. It’s taken me a few months to work my way down to regular strength snus. Good luck!
@crullers what are u on now? is it the 8 / 9mg your down to
@BeeMan Yes, 8-9mg snus now and a lot of snuff :). Still have some Skruf Stark lös though. I don’t think I’ll quit that - it’s too good!
are u in the UK? if so were do you buy from
I’m in Canada so I order online from Sweden.
my problem is there are only a few places that ship to the EU
I’ve heard snusline will ship to UK from Israel. Northerner is another option but they have been having issues lately and people have been waiting a long time for their orders to show up. @Skell18 is in the UK and knows his stuff about snus. He should be able to give you a more definitive answer than me.
Have just had an order from snusline only took 4 days have heard of the issues from Northerner It was just when you mentioned Skruf Stark lös a recomendation is worth more than just trying pot luck
Another day clear £60 saved on cigs so far this morning was a little harder even with the snus but now my Nic levels are up the need to kill everyone has subsided used a couple of portions and using SG Black Coffee , Viking Dark and Celtic Talisman. The + side is my chest is a lot clearer today and the death crakle when breathing has gone. Will be running a Bee keeping course for beginners sunday so im hoping i can keep a snus under my lip while doing that as i don`t think i will be able to to be snooking up snuff all day as i have found a lot of people look at me like im some sort of mad man taking snuff as they trot off for a fag. A chap in the pub wanted to try some of my snuff last night found it funny as he put a very large pinch on the back of his hand and snoorted it like Coke ( it was extra strong menthol) The tears running down his cheeks had everyone in fits i did tell him how to take before hand but he said he knew better his grandfather had been taking snuff for years and thats how he took it.
Everytime I have given someone snuff no matter how much I emphasize NOT to snort it but to gently sniff it they always just snort it right back like a line of coke 8-|
@BeeMan, both you and the course are going to do well. Sounds like you are handling things great so far!!!
Well done and good luck with the course.
Here i am 7 days clean £105 better off 280 cigs not smoked it soon adds up The mornings are still no easy but after i shovel snuff up my nose stick a snus under my lip its only takes a few minutes before the urges dissapear. I have been trying this week to get a few of my pals on to snuff and off the cigs but most think im mad and refuse to even give it a go. This is the longest i have ever managed to not smoke i have spent £100s even £1000s on NRT in the past only to fail a few days in. It seems madness that more people arnt made aware this is a good way to stop smoking and its still over a 1000 times better for you than smoking but as its a tabbaco product its a big NO NO as a quit smoking aid
@BeeMan - Well done. You will soon get over that first smoke of the morning problem and it sounds like you have already basically beaten it. Re your other points I have to agree with @lunecat about the knee jerk reaction. Also the NRT is produced by big pharma companies who have serious budgets for lobbying politicians, health services, doctors, etc. The snuff producers cannot afford to do that. I have been discussing this with a doctor recently and he was initially very averse to the idea of suggesting to patients that they should use snuff as a way of stopping smoking. But whenever I see him I add some further facts and research into the conversation and he has started listening - so who knows. Looking at a lot of the comments on this forum it is pretty clear that a large number of people have used snuff to stop smoking so it works.
Congrats @BeeMan we are ALL rooting for you!!!
@BeeMan - congrats! Keep it up! And you are inspiring me, as I am ashamed to say I have fallen off the snus/snuff wagon pretty hard since early December. Been primarily smoking … and finding the will to just wake up, pop a snus in and sniff a little Toast & Marmalade instead of lighting up, has been difficult. Your success is enough to motivate anyone. I have done it multiple times before, now I need to find the will to do it again. And for me, there is no “dabbling” in any smoked tobacco … once that rock rolls, it goes on and on, and picks up speed. learned my lesson this time around, there are no “just a couple” smokes for me.
pipes the occasionaly pipe or cigar works for some. In fact it may help with the no cigs. kind of a crap shot though.
@snuffbrant the most important thing from all my other attempts is when you think " i will just have one and then thats it" thats the one that starts the smoking ball rolling again. Every day this week i have thought about just having one and then i think about all my other failures and its that one cig that caused it!
As a very wise man on this site, Pieter Classen, once said,(which I think about often), “Your a puff a day from a pack a day” . Dwell on that, brother…
Very good @BeeMan I am proud of you! You got this!

That is a most important thing to keep in mind. In AA they have a saying that pertains to alcoholic relapse: “It’s the first drink that gets you drunk”. And for alcoholics it is true, probably the same for cig smokers who are having a hard time quitting.

without question, this is true. I knew it, yet my hubris got the better of me after a golf weekend of smoking and quitting easily again … thinking i had converted to a “social smoker”, yet quick to find out, after testing the theory again on a second golf trip, i am a “sociopath smoker” … insane … and the “oh tomorrow i will get back to snus and snuff” never comes … now i have to go through the mind mess that comes with quitting smokes … 1 day, 1 month, 1 year … all from 1 puff, which is what Bartman stated via Pieter, one puff becomes one pack a day. ~X(
Might I suggest, if someone does smoke a cigarette, try just holding the smoke in your mouth and slowly exhale, it works like a charm with cigars, it seems reasonable to me that it should work with cigarettes. I keep suggesting it to cigarette smokers but they look at me like I’ve lost my mind! Could someone try it and let me know back if it works? Keep at it @Beeman, you ARE a non-cigarette smoker. I’ve found the best snuff delivery system available, in a foot pump. I’m not kidding. It has increased my snuff consumption but it also delivers way more nic to the system. I got 3 quart jars of McChrystal’s O&G that I haven’t been able to handle for 6 months now, but with the pump, it doesn’t burn and delivers the taste like nothing else. It may be helpful to get one to tie you over til the sticks quit calling your name.
^^ The problem with that is cigarettes taste like shit and no one wants to hold that nastiness in their mouth, that’s why God created Havana
I have to second the comment by @n9inchnails. In the old days with Turkish and Oriental cigarettes they had decent flavours like blends of pipe tobacco using that leaf but after they all disappeared we were left with mass produced cigs. Even the most expensive of those tasted of nothing that you really wanted to taste. By then I was addicted so I carried on for years but eventually saw the light and gave them up 6 years ago. Since then I have had 1 cig simply to see what happened and I could not believe how awful it tasted. After only smoking cigars and pipes it just tasted really stale and disgusting. I put it out and would never bother to try another. Now Havanas - that is a different matter!

Honestly there is no way I can see this working. Back when I was smoking cigarettes if I drew the smoke into my mouth it is only natural to inhale. Also it would make it even harder for the smoker to go through the ritual and then try to just puff it and not inhale, would be like giving a double cheeseburger to an overweight person and tell them to just hold it and smell it.
Maybe with some strong cheapo cigars, inhaling those isn’t pleasant. I’m not referring to those cigarette- like cigars, but just some potent, factory second, real cigars. If you have a good place to smoke at any time that is…
It would definitely require some training, I like the phrase ‘pull a Bill Clinton’, except that I would never forget to inhale on some things. Now, the taste of a cigarette, it seems that if they were stored at 65% humidity and with cedar and other flavorings that they could be greatly improved. Good point @Mr O, it’s getting where it’s going to be illegal to put fire to any tobacco in public.
^^That would work if cigarettes were naturally aged but mass produced cigarettes aren’t aged at all they are sprayed with countless chemicals so they taste like aged tobacco. When you smoke a cigarette you aren’t tasteing the tobacco your tasteing the chemicals they spray on the tobacco. These chemicals do expire and the cigarette goes stale so aging cigarettes will accomplish nothing but make them go stale and taste even nastier than they did before.
Except for the natural ones: American Spirit, Nat Sherman and maybe a few others. I heard most of the premium RYO’s are additive free. Just pop 'em in the humidor, and come back to the experiment in a year or two. Actually maybe I’ll try it myself in a while. A few years ago I had a pack of 20 year old 555’s, the first drag was a bit harsh, after that they were perhaps the smoothest thing I’ve ever smoked- except for shisha.
Well not updated for a long time but still not had a cig but have changed a few things. still snuffing the SG Black Coffee and all the other snuffs but i have dropped the Snus just could not get on with it. So i have started Vaping its just like smoking V good nic hit and loads of flavours but without all the nasty stuff Over 1200 cigs not smoked and over £600 better off even with what i spend on snuff and vaping.
I’ve been really luck this time around, no cigs in 2 1/2 weeks and really not even wanting one yet. Snuff has definitely taken care of the nic fits - and I just got to the point where I really would rather have a snuff or smoke a pipe than a cig. I hope you continue to have good luck!
@PeteTschantz well done the first 2 weeks are the worsed so keep it up and if it does get hard you can try snus or vaping but snuff is best and only use the others to get you past the hard times
thx @Beeman, like I said this is the best time I have ever had quitting. Plenty of hi octane snuff and Pipe 'baccy if needed
