As many will already be aware, here in the UK there is no duty charged on snuff. However, the duties on other tobacco products are quite high. As a very rough comparison, here is how much cheaper snuff is compared with other tobacco prices 2 x 50g tins of pipe tobacco = 25.00 1 x 50g and 1 x 25g pouch of RYO tobacco = 27.00 3 packs of cigarettes = 27.00 1 x Montecristo Anejados cigar = 23.00 1 pack of 5 King Edward Invincible cigars = 21.00 1lb or 500g drum of snuff = 27.00 Yes, that’s right! Three packs of smokes buys you a large drum of WoS or SG snuff or one big fat cigar. So how much does your snuff cost in terms of other forms of tobacco where you are?
I live in Pennsylvania-- we don’t have taxes on anything but cigarettes, everything is dirt cheap.
Been awhile since I bought anything at a store for my tobacco needs but… Can of dip is about $23 pack or smokes is $14 or so depending on brand and the one time I bought snus it was $16. Gotta love Canada!
California: pack of smokes $5, american moist snuff $4, dry snuff(we garrrett) $4 for 1.15oz, silver dollar $6, other nasal snuff=does’t even exist.
@codyg140 $23 for a can of dip?! Wow, what is the thought process behind that?scarcity?
Well after the Boston Tea Party we here in Greater Boston just basically decided to tax the shit out of Everything. Good ciggies ( NAT Sherman) are $14, reg cigs $6-$9 a pack. Copenhagen Long Cut is nearly $10/ can. Snuff?? I don’t know, only a few places sell it. I buy everything online, out of state/ country. Last time I tried to buy some freakin Poschl ozona, in Cambridge ( like 6 years ago ) , it was almost $8 for 5gr.
Well I live in PA, Land of High taxes. tobacco may be affordable but healthcare is not. $450.00 a month will get you an average plan with a co pay per individual also a local tax just for living here and school taxes based on your property, weather or not you have children.
Shipping from MS is anywhere from 30 to 60% so a $116.58 order of snuff with $68.23 shipping it’s kind of discouraging. Snus isn’t much better with shipping until you get past the $150 mark then the shipping isn’t so steep.

Seattle WA area: pack of smokes $11, american moist snuff $7, the only dry snuff I know of (we garrett) $12.50 for 1.15oz, silver dollar $7
New Jersey Dip/moist snuff: 4-6 bucks Chewing tobacco: 5-7 bucks General snus: 3-5 bucks Nasal snuff: 5 bucks
In WV, American scotch snuffs average about $6 for small tins and somewhere around $15 for large ones. General Snus I have seen for 2.99 a can. Marsh Wheeling cigars are just about 4.99 for a pack of 5. You might get Tampa Sweets or other machine-mades cheaper.
I’m not really a dip/chew guy, but my general impression is that those forms are available cheapish in WV. Seems like some folks around here will put their Copenhagen ahead of their own proper nutrition, based on what I’ve seen in the local supermarket line.
@chicago_CA dip actually use to be cheap. Then people were quitting smoking and going to smokeless so they jacked the tax like a bunch of A holes. I near filled my pants last time i grabbed a can
In the Netherlands: Cigarettes 6,20 euro a pack Pipetabacco 100 gram 27 euro Snuff 2,20 euro 10 gram of snuff ( Poschl) Cigars Cubans from 7 euro till hundred ? ( very big variety) Snuss not available Chew tabacco 40 gram 6,20 euro ( for de Witte os) So snuff is by far the cheapest way !
I’m in Arizona and haven’t looked at the price of cigarettes as I’ve never smoked them. I haven’t bought pipe tobacco in a long time either as I have a lot of that. Last time I bought pipe tobacco it was about 12-15 dollars a premium tin. 5 dollars or so an ounce of bulk pipe tobacco. Mid level good cigars such as my father cigars about 7 dollars. What I can find in my state so far for snuff is silver dollar 5gm and we garrett sweet snuff 1.15 oz both just under 5 dollars.
To add to Codyg140’s Ontario prices, a tin of pipe tobacco is around $30-$35 although you can get pouched stuff like Brigham’s and Amphora for a little under 30. (this is in Canadian dollars)
^and a Montecristo No. 2 is $36
a can of snus is $17
25g tin of McC snuff is $27
25g tin of SG snuff is $30
Thats right in Canada a tin of snuff is only slightly cheaper than a premium Cuban cigar.
Don’t believe these outrageous prices than take a look for yourself
Try,Australia it’s a joke. 1x25g tin pipe tobacco is $60. And 1packet tailor made cigarettes Is $25. Snuff & postage is about $10 a 25g tin. I can’t buy snuff have to get fro UK I do the same with pipe tobacco, so no contest snuffers for ever.
I live in NE Connecticut and work just over the Massachusetts state line.

I’m in New Mexico (USA).
Snuff is impossible to get here. I buy from Toque and Mr. Snuff.
I don’t do chew or dip and don’t know the prices.
I don’t do cigarettes, but know they are about 5$ a pack. When I used to smoke cigs I was in the Army. They went from 65 cents to 85 cents a pack and I quit them. (The carton rate at the PX back then was 2.35$)
The only place to get cigars locally charges 12$ for a Cuba Libre One and 18$ for a few types of Acids, so I buy from online retailers.
There is nada but OTC pipe tobacco locally, and it’s mostly old and dried out. 4 to 5$ a small pouch. I buy pipe tobacco from online retailers.
At the urging of a friend I recently tried Snus. Skoal Snus (smooth mint) at just under 5$ a tin… over 5$ after tax. I like the idea of Snus, but was VERY unimpressed with the American Snus I tried. My friend gave me a portion of Thunder extra strong and it gave me 20 minutes of hiccups. Do any of yall have suggestion of something in the middle, and where to get it online? I want stronger than this American Skoal, but something that won’t kill me like the Thunder. Fair prices are appreciated.
@moemojo I was in the USAR and a carton of cigs at my Px was $9.99 that was early 90s though. Now they are not even sold at that exchange! Irritating.
