They make a good point when they say they’re the first business to ever be forced to “shun their own products” however I can see where the FDA is coming from. People who like to smoke will still buy them. Images will do NOTHING. Smokers KNOW what smoking can do to them. The FDA spends way too much time telling people things they ALREADY KNOW and CONTROLLING THEM. I’m also sick of the FDA telling us what not to put in our bodies but then they PUSH poisons and pills that KILL as an alternative! I remember the day that “FDA APPROVED” actually held some weight. It used to mean something but now I don’t care in the least and I do my own research. If you still smoke, the only thing I can see this doing is “yeah I’ll take a pack of Camel Lights. The one with the dead, black baby on the front of it…” or “the bleeding set of lungs, please…” Save the whales. Collect the whole set.

J

cant buy lights anymore @transistor called blue now

S

Hmm. That’s an interesting point, transistor. These could become morbid historical collectibles some day. I’m still holding on to my Iraq’s Most Wanted playing cards.

B

Lol the only time those get sold are when yellows are out. Anyways good article, it really doesnt matter to me if they put warnings on the pack. It has no impact on my habit.

J

…and that’s why I snuff. I don’t want a pack with: TOBACCO USE CAN MAKE YOU IMPOTENT Cigarette use decreases blood flow to the penis - yeah I feel for the guy that has to carry that pack around all day. What’s next? Pictures of brown boogers on a snuff tin? It’s bad enough I have to peel off the warning labels.

B

Well I think its nicotine in general that causes impotence.

B

it’s vascular. Which sucking in carbon monoxide is terrible on the cardiovascular system. Carbon Monoxide bounds with the blood where oxygen normaly does. This forces the system to work much harder which messes up the blood vessels as well as the heart and isn’t so great for the lungs either which have to work harder but with decreased oxygen. If you want to know what that is like for your heart and such, trying jogging while you’ve got the worst cold possible. Nicotine may have an effect on impotence but nothing compared to the definate factor of inhaling lots of carbon monoxide.

My neighbour smoked a packet of good cigs until the age of 96 when he died (i asked him of course what he smoked) , was still looking for a girlfriend at the age of 80. After switching to snuff, i feel pretty safe

W

We’ve had large health warnings on fags for about 8 years now. We also have ghastly pictures on the back of the packets, they’ve been there for about 2 years now. Stefan

P

A french woman who lived till 122 gave up smoking at 119.

M

Rob, I love your little rant. I agree completely. Hippocrates! And actually it is the smoke that causes the impotence. Jrabevill is correct.

B

I also have to say just cause someone lived untill 90 doesn’t mean much. We all have diffrent bodies. For example the damage caused by what I was talking about is largely due to the increased pressure and work wearing down the smooth lining of the vessels (not only but a big part of it). Well some people that doesn’t happen so much cause they’re lucky.

I know my wife will kill me for saying this but, it’s late, I’ve had a couple of good malts and I think I should share this with my fellow snuffhouse members. Unlike cigarettes snuff has the exact opposite affect as discussed above. Snuff has been proven to help slow the onset of Dementia, Parkinsons and Alzheimer’s, athletes now use it as a stimulant as it is one of the few stimulants to pass drug testing and it actually helps with blood flow and stimulates the parts other beers (sorry tobacco products) fail to reach. Even more amazingly it is used as an aphrodisiac in many cultures, and is even rubbed on certain parts of the body to stimulate arousal. Even I thought this was far fetched but, sure enough if you google it you’ll be amazed. I know I was.

B

what’s your wife have against you admiting it’s late. I mean not to judge but that’s a little odd.

T

She’s a little old fashioned and anything of a … well you get my jist. PS love your mind Bob!

B

I definatly feel healthier after having snuff then after smoking. I really think if they want to slow the use of cigarettes instead of using late stage horror which is what they do. They should use immediate benifits. like you might be able to run away from gangs of snuff users.

B

thank you. love your snuff especialy the grape (really it’s a great snuff). My suggestion is to get her to be even more old fashioned, like medival.

A

I am quite bothered by it, if they are known to be that bad for you why not ban the sale of them completely instead of sticking stupid pictures all over the packets. Either let them sell them without caveats or ban them completely.

B

@ Ansel, they(politicians) can’t live, they think, without the taxes. Plus the smuggling and black market would make pot look like childs play.

F

This reminds me of the old thought that the Camel mascot looked “cool” and made kids want to buy cigarettes…what?? Teenagers try tobacco out of curiosity, just like alcohol and drugs. What idiot really doesn’t know that smoking is bad for you? Come on, people, if we want to indulge in something that’s not healthy, thats our prerogative (sic)…spare me the dead baby pics…

T

@jpsks I wouldn’t know. I don’t smoke anymore. But, my mistake. The problem with all of this is that you’re telling us something we already know. Everyone knows smoking is bad for you. Yet people do it anyways. The only way you’ll make a big difference is to offer them AN ALTERNATIVE to smoking, and educate smokers on the BENEFITS of quitting and other “here and now” reasons. Smokers are used to the instant gratification of smoking. Unless you can match that, a smoker is rarely going to quit. The closest thing to any of this I’ve found is electronic cigarettes. And even those don’t work for everyone. They worked for me though. Paired with snuff, of course! I’ve been smoke free for a year and a half now and can’t stand the smell of smoke. I can’t stress enough how well both of those work if you’re trying to quit. Of course, the FDA doesn’t really want smokers to quit. They want you to use their deadly pills and patches that have a what… 14% quit rate? Woo hoo. I don’t know ANYONE that has quit with any of those. I know 6 people that use ecigs now. Just saying… they can really work and snuff makes it easier! One might be able to quit with snuff alone, but for most smokers, the hand-to-mouth fixation is half the addiction. YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE DESIRE TO QUIT. I mean, REALLY WANT IT. Being able to blow out a big cloud of flavorful vapor is a great replacement. IMHO. The word needs to be spread!

Over my life time a heck of a lot has been learnt about genetics. Some people are now saying that nutrition during the first two years of life plays a heck of a big role in being able to tolerate certain things. I’m waiting for the Doctor who will tell me with some certainty that smoking my pipe will NOT kill me. A medical science that tells you before you embark would be really more useful than one that tells you you’ve ‘had it’ later on. Agree that snuff seems to be good for the little grey cells.

P

The label on the futuristic box would read: ’ You are advised to receive full genetic/physiological testing before using this product’.

P

So cool when you guys trundle out the First Amendment

B

You know when I was a kid and before I started smoking I used to think people who smoked where not really aware of how bad it was. Kind of like if I saw one you guys trying to put your right hand into a meat grinder I would assume you don’t understand the princaple of a meat grinder. I think these people think in the same way they don’t realize there is benefit to nicotine. Which then when I was a teen I thought wait smoking must be pretty great if people still do it and everyone knows how unhealthy it is.

B

@bob thats exactly how I was too. I started because I thought “hey, if so many people smoke than there has to be a good reason, I might as well try it”. However I have been cigarette free for a DAY AND A HALF. Even in a house full of smokers.

B

awesome. Here is one thing I noticed after I finaly stoped smoking cigs my nose reacted more kindly to snuff.

B

Well I’m still smoking a pipe. I have asthma and I decided inhaling smoke wasn’t working any more.
