Good idea or dumb idea?
Old hippies everywhere salute you.
Cool idea - especially if they are dark colors
i got mine from Snuff Store, not sure what sort of hankie it is, however it is brilliant.
I was thinking of experimenting with cotton cloth diapers. I’m thinking they’d be soft, absorbent, and I’m thinking they would take the color well.
Never thought of that, suppose the only way to find out is to give it a go I guess. Let us know how you get on, although they probably be very soft indeed.
White cotton fancy hankys 6 for $3 at Wally world. Great idea BTW. I’ll take 2 one for each nostril.
rdunnion, I’ll have to look for those! I have to use 100% cotton, or else the dye doesn’t take well.
They are in the Men’s section. Apparently ladies have no need for hankeys, they can just use their sleeve
As a born again hippie, I’m intrigued about your idea.
I would prefer hemp hankies.
Hemp hankies, that’s a great idea! We should talk to Peoples market in Ocean Beach.
Carol I’d be down for some all blue tie die and maybe some kind of sandy colored one as well
I’ve only had one tie-dye in my live. It’s one of the few tie-dyes I actualy liked. Though when I’ve been sick I"ve made a few temperary tie-dyes.
I’m thinking green & blue spirals or brown and blue bars. Hemp is not as refined as cotton I think it would be a bit abrasive. The fibers are just too big by nature.
Put me down for a couple at least, Carol. Whisper me if you get er done and want to sell a couple. Brilliant plan, man, I dig it. Outa sight.
I can always use more hankies.
Carol - Made any progress with this I’m totally interested.
these would rock. can you embroider “Wharf Rat” on mine please?
It’s like a 90+ mile round trip for me to get to the store to buy the blanks, so whenever I go is when I’ll do it. I live in the middle of nowhere so I combine trips to buy stuff. Probably in the next couple weeks though.
@ Carol would you ship to the UK when you’ve done them? Stefan
Hi Carol, I’d be interested in a couple, too. I want an offical ISTA logo embroidered on mine.
Um…I don’t know how to embroider lol!
Well, I made an unscheduled trip to town, and picked some up. We’ll see how they work!
Awesome can’t wait!
Saw a pack of 13 for $13 at Kohls buy 1 get 2nd 1/2 off.
My other half twisted some T-shirts earlier. He’s taking them up to a filming of Pinks: All Out to try to sell some. Some of them came up hella loud lol.
@Carol will you post me a couple to the uk though? Obviously I’ll pay for it paypal or any other method you prefer, but I really would like a couple of those. Stefan
Yeah, I don’t see why I couldn’t ship to UK. They are light, so I doubt the postage would be horrid. I have some soaking in the soda-ash prep solution now. I should be able to start dying later tonight.
Started dying the first batch. I’ll put pics up Sunday. The Old Man has the camera with him, so I won’t have a camera till then. There isn’t a lot of material to them so fancy patterns won’t be possible, basic swirls, starbursts, and bars will be doable.
@ Carol: what are the dimensions?
Can’t wait to see them!
@Xander: It doesn’t say on the package the dimensions. I’ll measure them when they are done. Keep in mind, they may be horrid! I’ve dyed tons of shirts, but never anything this small. Also, if they turn out good, I’m extremely open to bartering as well.
Thanks Carol! Can’t wait to see what you come up with. Stefan
Sounds bloody marvellous! Can’t wait to see the results. :3
you could get swaths of fabric maybe that would be easier if this doesn’t work. Then cut it too the right size after dyeing and the sewing the edge should be easy. Just a thought.
As far as dimensions go, they are 16in square, after fixing, dying, and washing. More dress hanky sized than bandana sized. And yes, they are colorful. Pics will go up tomorrow, or late tonight.
Ok, here they are.
wow!!! they’re awesome!!!
Ok, I spoke with my other, because he knows what the dye cost and stuff. I figure that they would probably mail in a normal envelope ok, so shipping would just be a stamp or 2, depending on the how many I put in there. So, is 2 bucks each, plus the price of a stamp ok? Barters are considered as well. Paypal would probably be the easiest way because I have a paypal account.
Turned out great! I fancy #17 myself…
My email is chevyheads@gmail.com That’s my paypal ID also. I’ve paid with paypal, but never sold with them. So is it like easy and stuff lol?
I’ll take 2, 14, please. Let me know where to paypal.
lol. cool. Don’t know, I, too, have only paid. I’m sure we’ll figure it out.
Ok, my email is chevyheads@gmail.com, which is also my paypal ID. Can you leave notes on paypal? Leaving a note with your boardname would be helpful to my spacey self lol.
Love them they look great. Not normaly a fan of tye dyed stuffs but this are the cats knees and the bees p.j.s
my girlfriend would LOVE #13
So far, 1-2-13-14 are claimed.
of course 13 is claimed
Egads! Those are some fancy-schmancy nappies, alright. And of course the most psychedelic ones are spoken for already.
Excellent tie-dyes! You deserve that Stealie in your avatar 100%!
Ok, so far claimed: 1, 2, 3, 9, 13, 14, 15, and 21.
I fancy meself numbers 17 & 18. If those aren’t taken yet.
6, 17, and 18 added to the claimed list.
12 and 22 are tentatively claimed.
Holy sh1t Carol! They are awesome!! I’ll take 20, 18, 5, 15. Please confirm and I will paypal you asap!

Ok, it’s looking like the unclaimed now are 7,10,11,16,and 24.
Wow!-I’m really impressed by Carol’s tie-dye work. Looking forward to trying these out. I think she’ll need to make more soon. I feel bad for scooping up the best ones before anyone else could get their mitts on them. lol
Onefortheroad; Seconded. On all accounts.
You’ll have to make more I really fancy the swirlly ones, but there all gone
And I really, really, REALLY fancy those that wouldn’t feel out of place in the Rorschach Inkblot Test. They are, frankly, unnerving. Which makes them totally, unquestionably awesome
That was my first time dying something that size. When I make more I’ll have more of a handle on what works, so they hopefully should turn out better.
14 works for me, when you make more I’ll take 4!
Iggy, even if I tie things exactly the same, and use exactly the same colors, no 2 pieces ever come out exactly alike. They will be similar, but never exact.
They are all brilliant, Carol!
I’ve tie-dyed hearts on shirts before. Is this something I should do?
hearts and use the color purple, I’ll be buying that to give to my girlfriend
I didn’t do this one, but this is the general idea.
Woohoo! I got my hankies today! They’re even cooler in person than in the pictures. Thanks again, Carol, for doing this! My vote: Tie-dye hankies – Good idea.
Thank you. We are working on a baby onesie project this week. A couple stores expressed interest. Onesies are so stinkin’ cute!
My hankies arrived and so did my Toque order, yes! They look great Carol!
