Hey guys, before I order some of the thunder chew of off Mr snuff, I was curious to know how it compares to american dips, such as Skoal, Kodiak, etc. At almost 4 bucks a tin, should I just use my money for american dips or would I be missing out on some good stuff?
Well I am pretty sure it is formulated more as a snus, just their long cut varieties relabeled for the American marketplace. If it is anything like original thunder you might find it enjoyable and able to be used without spitting, particularly upper deck. Thunder is a strong snus, I enjoyed the frosted flavor (mint) when I used to get it, others did not. It is made by V2. In recent years I have heard some say quality control has gone down in their efforts to expand market reach. Also the tin itself was kind of flimsy. Ken
So, it’s a long cut snus? I’ve only ever had snus in pouches. Here in the states, good tobacco products are hard to come by
I really enjoy Thunder. Their loose snus is my personal favorite. It’s a lot easier on the mouth than American dips, but you are pretty much forced to upper-deck it. No spit, and the little tobacco bits are quite edible. They aren’t as harsh on the guts as dip at all. I would use loose snus exclusively if it was convenient and didn’t cost so damned much for shipping. It’s hard for me to justify $5 (+/- depending on sales) when I can get Skoal for $2.69 and I almost always have more $1 odd and BoGo coupons than I can ever use. Thunder is soooooo good though that I spend the money once in a while to get a roll or two in.
I don’t spit from dip normally. Only loose lead and plug. Dip just doesn’t get my juices flowing. I suppose I’ll order a tin of each. Do you know where to find it cheaper than Mrsnuff and that will ship to the states?
i think mrsnuff shipping rates will be less expensive than any other places you can find thunder. the online estores that sell snus, which you would just choose thunder loose snus, ship UPS at no less than $34ish per order. you order from them when you shop in bulk. on the other hand, you may be able to find snus, loose, pouch or V2’s Thunder Chew … at some B&M’s … V2, General, Jak’s and a few others are being sold stateside in places, and the number of places is growing. check here: http://www.snusdistribution.com/where\_to\_buy.php me - not a fan of any thunder, or any V2 for that matter … but like Dogwalla, many love their regular(i.e. unflavored) snus. as far as comparing to skoal, etc. hard to … american dip/chew is typically much sweeter, the thunder chew would be a pretty straightforward tobacco.
Very nice link! I bookmarked it just in case any vendors show up in Wisconsin. I could reach a few of the Illinois vendors within an hours drive…I’ll have to call and get price checks. Probably just cheaper to order online. I’ve had General snus in pouches. It was really dry and crunchy. A few of the gas stations by be do not store them properly.
I use 20% less thunder chew [with pris master and upper deck it] than american dip. You can hardly tell I have it in, unlike bottom lip dip. I don’t use exclusive so can’t tell how long a tin last.
@basement_shaman yea, some people more than others, but you can tell when I’m dipping. Thanks for your help guys. I’ve added them to my cart at Mrsnuff. Thanks for link to dip compressor in the whatcha dippin thread. Very helpful indeed!
@wiscsnuffer you should add a Pris Master to your cart also. Unless you always have clean fingers to hand bake https://mistersnuff.com/catalog/prismaster-p-1089.html
Very interesting looking little gadget! Thanks for all your help!
Depends on what you prefer. I prefer snus to American dip, so I would say from my perspective Thunder chew is worth purchasing.
