So I noticed that there are three different writing systems on the tins of kailash. I was wondering if @sixphoto could enlighten us on what these are, what languages they’re used for, etc.

@horus92, I did Indian and Indonesian studies at university, so I pounced on this to see if I could show off a bit. Unfortunately for that plan, I’m stumped. I could see the Devanagari script, which is used for most Indian languages, including Hindi, the national language. I couldn’t see any other script except Roman, familiar enough to you and me. Kailash is the name of a holy mountain in Tibet, getting Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Bon pilgrims at the same time. So, it might be Tibetan. I should keep my mouth shut and see what 6_photo says, before I make an idiot of myself. I just couldn’t resist.

I have a tin of Royal Frontier Mail, red in color, with English, Hind, and what appears to be Arabic script. From the location of India, close to Pakistan, I am guessing it is Urdu, which uses Arabic letters, like Farsi, which uses Arabic script, but is another completely different language. Rather confusing since I can only read English. Does anyone know if there is snuff in Iran?

Does anyone know if there is snuff in Iran?

Before the revolution, pipe smoking was quite common, but I don’t know about snuff. I went on a trip there last year and smoked my pipe a lot in public, I often got old men walking past smiling at me and saying “Captain Black!” (It wasn’t, by the way, but that was the brand of tobacco that they remembered from the old days).

The 41 Photo tins have writing in English, Hindi, Urdu (I’m guessing) and Tamil (I’m guessing)
