Trying to figure some things out. The theme may change back and fourth. Some icons went odd so I also changed the comment editor. Sorry folks, not sure what exactly caused the issues.

C

Ok… Looks like changing the theme fixed some of the issues. It is possible that the Theme Author changed something that isn’t quite working, we might have to stick with this one for a while. Some of you might have noticed some odd “highlighting” of thread titles and such. Also the comment editing options (bold, italics, etc) went AWOL and looked odd. Just good ole Vanilla.

C

Here is what I am experiencing: Seems that “read” threads now appear as white. Some other functions have either disappeared or changed.

X

This is what I have been seeing for weeks. I’ve learned to live with it, and I blame my browser’s incompatibility with Vanilla.

C

Well, it’s not totally your browser. I see it here at home and at work.

O

I’m seeing it as well but it only started a day or so ago.

B

I don’t like it! The white is tooo bright. Can Vanilla tone it down to Vanilla?

H

In my experience, the white ones are threads to which I have looked at or made a post to some time during the day. It took me a few days to figure that out… BTW: Glad to see that the double spacing is gone! I’m also getting a red “Failed to find discussion for commenting” error message after I edit a post, but it goes away when I refresh the screen. I wasn’t a software tester for nothing don’cha know…

X

@howdydave You are a OCD editor. I have to clean up and dispose of all the edited posts…

J

The light background is really distracting, IMO. You can fix it by editing this line in the CSS file: .Item.Read { background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #F3F3F3; opacity: 0.9; } Just replace the hex “#F3F3F3” with “#000000” (zeros) and the white background disappears. If you still want see the read posts slightly darker change opacity to 0.7 or 0.8. HTH

J

The CSS file being this one: http://autostatic-cl1.vanilladev.com/snuffhouse.vanillaforums.com/applications/dashboard/design/style.css?v=2.1a22 (heh, this editors “code” is pretty much unreadable, but you can copy-paste it away.)

C

I’ve changed the theme. I’ll leave it here unless there are some serious objections.

What can I say… Technical writers are, by nature, editors of their work! If the edit function is giving you grief, can’t you disable the function?

H

I see that the white of this thread (now that I just posted to it) is gone!

On the other hand, this sounds like some work that Vanilla needs to do on their software. Have you contacted them about “lurking pre-edit posts?”

H

Then again… you might want a record of all modifications. See how much clutter the board gets when I don’t edit? In my normal mode these 4 posts of mine would all end up in 1 edited post!

X

Yes, we get a record of the modfications, it is helpful to the moderation team, however, the useless ones can pile up if not deleted promptly. However, you should be aware that many readers may only read the first version. Anyway, you should still be able to edit your posts, there is a little cog in the right top of the text box that only shows up if you mouse over it using this color scheme.

J

I like this theme we have now. Now being 22:35 BST >:)

H

I’ve been using the cog to access the board edit function… I don’t know what to say if you are still being overwhelmed, because I AM using the Vanilla edit method.

S

Like the other sloth, I like the current theme. Looks quite classy, and I also noticed that you can see which users have done ‘like’ and ‘agree’ for other users (I don’t think we could do this before, but I may be wrong).

X

@howdydave. no Its ok that way, I don’t have any today. I think it only happens if you leave and come back to edit later, not if you see a typo right after you post. I fix those all the time and the system just let them pass. @sloth Personally, I preffered anonymous “likes” but I think this is a Vanilla change not our own.

C

Glad there is positive response, seems like the new theme fixed the issues, plus this theme isn’t a drastic change compared to the other. Also, thanks to @Dogwalla for the new banner, quite excellent. Feel bad for the guy though… now we’re going to bombard him with cool banner requests.

D

It’s what I do for a living. I’ve got the vectors that I made, so changes/additions/whatever are entirely simple. Don’t be shy about asking for additional sizes, layouts, or colors. It’s always my pleasure to contribute something to a community I enjoy.

S

The new banner is great, Dogwalla … one question … is that a “tongue” on the “S” ? Or just fancy script? I am perplexed.

S

I always thought it was a tobacco leaf…

S

that sounds like a good answer, @Scurvy. i just hadn’t noticed it much before, this new banner really stands out which is awesome, and I can see it more clearly, which is why I ask the question. I use to think it was just a designer “S” …

G

@cstokes4 : I wanted to know why you delete colors that was a part of my pleasure on “what’s on your nose” ? I think,or see, you like to play with colors too…

D

@snuffbrant I just took the original image, created a vector that matched fairly close, and changed things to a lighter palette so it worked with a dark site. The good part about that is I can change the colors in seconds. Here is the original logo right next to the new one. There are slight differences, such as opening the center a bit which made it a touch more noticeable. If it drives people nuts, I can make it exact since I now have a copy of my Adobe suite at home.

S

@dogwalla … i think it is fantastic that you have worked on this … and the image itself is something i like and am use to … i was more curious as to what you all thought it was/looked like. Scurvy posited that it was representing a tobacco leaf … which i thought sounded plausible. but it does bear a striking resemblance to a tongue, agree? either way, when examining your images side by side, i like the new one. it stands out more and maybe why i am just now really paying attention to it. snuffhouse is fortunate to have you and others on the board working to improve it. many thanks.

X

Its always been a tobacco leaf, even the original. I think Alex the forum’s founder designed it back in 2006. I think also the open left side of the S was supposed to look like a nose in one version.

S

thanks Xander … makes perfect sense.

C

The Snuffhouse “S” first appeared in the banner starting January of 2009, I believe it was on a t-shirt before that. http://web.archive.org/web/20090105222437/http://snuffhouse.org/

S

This new banner, and “S” is looking pretty good. Just noticed. Nice work.

C

That is the “Summer” banner. @Dogwalla kindly made us a range of banners for all manner of seasons/occasions. Can’t wait to put up the Autumn banner, not only because it looks nice… but because it’s just been too damn hot!

F

Is Sauron the new administrator?

C

@Filek: No, he’s always been a mod, he just goes by the name @Xander

X

@cstokes4 He’s talking to you, drac. Some kind of necromancer for sure >:)

X

nice work @Dogwalla. I had a look at the other designs too. I really like the summer one.

B

I like it nice banner/

S

Excellent job @Dogwalla. Fancy!

D

I’m always happy to contribute in ways that I can. I love the site, so it’s fun to be a part of it. Besides, it’s a slow week at work so I had time to use all my fancy toys on it. =D

C

They are all nice additions that add a bit of flavor to the muted colors on here, thanks again @Dogwalla!
