A little over a year ago I had a crazy notion to set aside one-eighth teaspoon of every snuff I buy into an airtight glass jar and leave it to mix together. That is, 48 different snuffs constitute one ounce (there are six teaspoons to an ounce). I decided that this snuff concoction would be complete once it reached the 5-ounce mark, i.e., a blend of 240 different snuffs. My only rules were no repeats (one spoon only of any type of snuff) and that I will not try even a pinch until the mixture is complete and left to age for one year. Well, today I spooned in the 240th and final portion. This behemoth will now age undisturbed until 10 January 2011. It will either be the snuff equivalent to Willy Wonka’s Everlasting Gobstopper or the worst snuff in the history of snuff. Time will tell, indeed. What is in it? Virtually every snuff I’ve ever tried is in there: the complete Toque line, every Wilsons of Sharrow/F&T, every American scotch and sweet, Indian snuffs, Chinese snuffs, German snuffs, toasts, Schmalzers, you name it. It’s all there, all in equal proportions. If it’s a snuff, 1/8th teaspoon of it was added to the jar. No exceptions. Why do this? Er, why not? Fun and curiosity. No other reason. I expect that it will be rather potent and flavorful, although quite awful, I’m guessing.
Absolutely wonderful, insane idea! Just donate the jar to Smithsonian or something.
Sounds like the free gratis box in our local pub. Myself, ermtony and a few other snuffers tip our bottom of box left overs into it. Crazy snuff!
Did you at least stir it?
Pieter did this last year, I believe. He tried it and said that it tasted different every time. Actually, I have a tin of it - I must try some when I get home!
I’ve got a jar going myself. It’s got to be a bunch of snuffs in there now. I stopped putting Indian snuffs in there because I just don’t like them and I have not put any SP’s in there. I have a separate jar for SP’s. I call them my mongrels. They’re only a few months old but I got the idea from Pieter. The SP mongrel ROCKS. It’s very very good, in fact I have a small tin that I keep in rotation. The plain mongrel is still maturing. Right now it smells like paint before you put it in your nose. It’s a decent snuff but it’s missing something that would make it ultimately satisfying. I like how you’ve standardized yours. Mine has different amounts of each in it.
kjoerup, I called mine a Mixed Grill.
I call mine Bitzer.
@ Juxtaposer I’m always stirring it Lol!
I have a very good SP toast mix that includes some F&T’s Seville. Still need to name it. Right now it’s just “the Wilsons SP box”. I keep it hydrated in a crock with a tobacco pouch moistener. It could use a little stirring.
@Juxtaposer: I would shake the jar every time I added to it, so, believe me, it is well blended.
I have one too. Its called “E Pluribus Unum”. However, no menthols or oil based snuffs may go into it. There’s actually not much in it at this point, just the leftovers when there’s not enough left in a tin to get a proper pinch.
I tried mixing Railroad Mills Maccoboy with SG KB Special once, but the grinds were all screwed up and it didn’t toot well.
I am a snuff newbie so I have no idea what I am doing, but today I mixed Grape Concord because I love the smell, with some Toque Quit It turned out pretty nice, still has the wonderful grape scent. Seemed to do very well with the nicotine content as well.
