Would be a compact four compartment snuff box which is what I would like, even a triple compartment would be a start but I can’t find that either. As an engineer I was thinking of designing a four compartment prototype, what are your thoughts?
@ShaunS Can’t wait to see what you come up with .
Good idea. I like the sound of a snuff assortments box.
rectangle with a sliding top or circular with a rotating top and a secret compartment in the 5th segment? metal, wood, plastic? Just wondering…
I saw one for sale on Ebay (antiques). Round with four hinged compartments. Made of brass.
There is a Willsons of Sharrow double compartment pewter box. Made around 1910 I’d guess. Ebay auction, ends soon.
I have a nice modern double snuff box that I got from eBay. The supplier is still doing them here Mine needed a few coats of tape on the underside of the lid to make it ‘toast proof’ but they good boxes. A quad like this would be very nice.

This is the problem though, there few and far between, old and antique and usually expensive. I’ve seen some double compartment boxes on ebay which are new but still not quite what I was after. It’s a idea to design and 4 compartment rectangular each compartment just big enough to get your pinching fingers in but it’s early days yet

Funny enough thats the only one I really found on ebay, its a smart looking box.
@ShaunS - They are good. Like I said earlier the lid on mine was a little loose for a fine grind, like toast, but with a couple of coats of tape on the underside it’s worked very well for over a year or so. I like the look of the antique doubles etc. but as @logicalfrank says; these are a bit Stella (reassuringly expensive + rare). I saw a nice antique double recently, but it was £600/$950 - This is way too much for most people I reckon if you could engineer a triple or quad you would have a captive market here. Variety is the spice of life after all! :)) If you project get off the drawing board let me know; I’d be interested in buying one for sure
The cheaper antique ones are not likely to be practical. They have been battered about and usually do not close properly. However, they can be used as a basis for design. A reproduction of a classic design might not be a bad idea. The Chinese make thousands of reproductions of their snuff bottles, not for snuff users but for idiot collectors who do not take snuff.

How about a design like two of those back-to-back? Each lid could be slid to either the left or the right, giving four individually-accessible compartments.
