I don’t know about how busy most are but I am just as active as I was when I was in my 30’s. One of the things I starting doing is what is called the “Power Nap” I learned this from some trucker friends of mine that did long hauls. They told me that a 15 min nap could easily amount to an energy charge that could hold them for several hours. I used to try this when I worked long hours between jobs and it is almost a daily routine when I leave my regular job and have jobs to do that evening for my graphics business. Anybody out there “Power Nap?”

P

Yes, power naps are a beautiful thing !!

caffine helps with power naps. Seriousily it takes about 15 minutes for caffine to “wake you up”. Like a cup of tea or coffee not a jug of coffee. I forget the science behind it but it works.

My wife laughs at me when I say that I am going to take one but is always amazed when I get through a lot of work

T

My mom takes power naps, especially before working 15 hour shifts in the psych ward.

I need one of these today but there is no hope for the next several hours

I can fight sleepiness all afternoon at work and not get anything done, or I can take a 15 minute nap and rock the rest of my day. In our department, you just say that you’re going to take a conference call and shut your door. My boss is a believer so we get that luxury where others don’t. We are getting moved into a glass palace when our new building is finished which may squash our ability to do it. If that happens, I may have to skip lunch to nap every day. It was a great thing to nap between classes when I was in school too. It let the info set in and I was awake and ready for the next session. Lots of naps = huge GPA I guess.

I have my own world too but when duty calls for you to bust your butt, you hit the ground running

I found a lovely little Italian delicatessen near where I work about a year and a half ago, had a few tables in an out of the way corner for coffees and paninis, and I started going there for my lunches. I loved it as there was no music (I work in a store where there’s music on a loop, playing all the tine) and even the coffee machine was quiet. I’d have a coffee and sometimes a lunch, and often fall asleep for ten minutes or so. The first time they woke me up to make sure I wasn’t dead (“in the street is ok, but not in the deli” they said… :)) ), but after that they left me to it unless they thought I was going to be late back for work. Always felt great after the great coffee and little sleep. Sadly it’s closed now due to an increase in the rent that they couldn’t afford, and I miss it.

It those chem trails making everyone tired. Cold water splashed in the face is better then 5 hour energy or some other stimulant drink. and there is no crash

I often take power naps, but they usually last about three hours.

Yoga Nidra - the yogic sleep, either 15/20 mins or 45 mins - amazingly rejuvenating. Works for me!

I find when I partake in pipe tobacco or snuff it makes me fall asleep. Only enjoyed pipe tobacco once every couple of years and snuff even less till very recently. So for me at this point it’s part of the process. Weird? Or normal for a body not acclimated to tobacco? p.s. I just enjoyed a pipe full and a little Torque. I’ll probably slip into a coma after that.

I remember trying to sleep in a 1961 GMC cabover semi truck when I rode with my Dad picking up chickens as a little boy. A 6-71 Detroit Diesel underneath you doesn’t allow for much sleep… @-) I gave up on power naps long ago.

M

@Bart I could take a power nap in the middle of a war if I needed it.
