Note: If for any reason you do not find this thread topic “stimulating”, please click the back button on your browser. Personally I find the uniqueness of Indian snuff warning labels fascinating and makes for quite stimulating conversation. Am I the only one who hates the disgusting photo of a man’s bleeding destroyed jaw and bloody gaping hole in the side of his mouth on the side of 6-Photo Kailash tins above the “Tobacco Kills” warning? It pisses me off, because the tin is otherwise so awesome with all the cool 6-Photo logos and pretty images of Indian landscapes, I want to show it off but instead I keep the tin hidden because of that hideous image. On my first 6-Photo order, I bought a 45g tin of Kailash and a 25g tin of Super Kailash. The 45g Kailash tin had the disgusting photo, while the 25g Super Kailash tin had a cool scorpion image as a warning label, so I assumed it was only the 45g tins that had the gross photo. On my next order I paid full price for 2 25g tins of Kailash rather than buy the 45g tin that was on sale, in the hopes that the smaller Kailash tins would have the scorpion rather than the grotesque bleeding image. Unfortunately my hopes were dashed when I discovered the 25g tins had the same nasty image too.
My solution has been that I ended up googling an image of the 6 Photo logo, cropping and resizing it, and printing 3 of them out on glossy paper. Then I taped it over the nasty image with clear Scotch tape on my 45g tin and 2 25g tins. Not an ideal solution, you can see the tape on the jar, you can clearly see parts that it is covering up some other picture behind it, and the image is identical to the 6-Photo logo printed on the can right next to it, but at least I no longer have to look at a bloody gaping hole in the side of a man’s mouth, and I’m not embarrassed to take the tin out. Has anyone tried anything else? Does anyone else have any better suggestions about how to cover up the image? Now of course the funny thing is with 6-Photo snuffs is that their warning labels are all different, and seemingly random. Some actually have the cool warning labels with the scorpion image. Others have disgusting bloody images that make me sick to my stomach. I also have a 30g bag of Super Chetak and a 25g tin of Super Kailash: both have the scorpion image. But the 5g bag of Super Kailash I have for some reason has another gross image of bleeding destroyed gums on it. Seems totally random. You can see them all in the following image, and the two tins on the top left are my taped-over Kailash tins:
Then of course you have the 6-Photo Medicated vacuum sealed tins, no grotesque images, they use the standard European warning message. In fact the warning labels on them are tiny and inoffensive, written along the bottom of the tin, and fit in with the colour scheme; actually much less of a bother than most European snuffs with their big black-on-white labels that take up half the can and can ruin an otherwise beautiful label.
And just for reference from another Indian snuff brand, Dholakia prints regular European-style labels in 3 languages, I’m assuming these are intended for European markets rather than India…oddly they chose English, German…and Polish? Is Poland really that big a market for Dholakia? :-/
Anyway, Sixphoto has said on this forum that all the 6-Photo snuffs will soon be available in the plain vacuum sealed tins like the Medicated ones above. How do people feel about that? My feelings are bittersweet, since although I hate the grotesque bloody warning image, I otherwise love the uniqueness of the current 6-Photo tins, with the 6-Photo logos, Hindi script, and images of Indian landscapes surrounding the tin. On the other hand, the vacuum sealed tins have a very inoffensive warning label, and probably are better for maintaining snuff freshness. I love 6-Photo snuff, and while I hate the grotesque bloody warning images, I suppose the varied warnings label do give them a uniqueness worth talking about- and it gives them an element of surprise. When you order a 6-Photo snuff, you never know which warning label image you are going to get! >:)
I would love new vacuum-sealed tins, the Indian style tins are crappy to pinch out of same as Fribourg & Treyer (am I the only snuff-user in the world who doesn’t like F&T packaging?) Best tins are vacuum-sealed Sammy Gawith type tins.
I agree the F&T tins are not good for pinching but i do like the look of them. and i usually use a spoon at home anyway and put some in a snuffbox for on the go.
F&T tins are a nightmare for me, especially with how easily their snuff compresses. I end up tapping some into the lid and pinching from that. As for all Six Photo snuffs moving to vacuum tins, it’ll be a shame to lose those unique tins with all their little quirks but if it means the snuff inside lasts longer then its got to be a good thing.
The F&T 50g tins are much better for pinching from than the 25g tins.
Even then it’s tough after you’ve had half imo
- Yes the photos are disgusting, and have nothing to do with nasal snuff. 2) I think the F&T tins are cool looking, but are hard to pinch out of. Neither of those things affect me much, though, because I seldom take a pinch out of a 25 gram tin. I usually load 2 or 3 snuff boxes, and pinch from them all day. The tins don’t get opened as often, so the snuff stays fresher, the boxes are always easy to pinch from. It’s a win/win.
I like the gothic letters on F&T tins, it’s totally unique tins
I got one of the new 6 Photo tins (Anarkali). They’re the same basic type as FUBAR SNAFU uses. Cool logos. It’s not the same as the little tins but very attractive and retro. I don’t usually care too too much about how a tin looks but I’m very happy with this one. It should also keep the snuff much fresher than those dinged up metal tube things.
I recently received 200g of super kailash and was compelled to transfer it to a different container due to that nasty image. It’s a shame because I agree that the art is quite attractive aside from the cancer image.
I was decanting snuff from tins into jars last night, a long overdue process for some of my Indian snuffs. Funny, the ones I picked up in Tibet (they are imported from India) don’t have the warning signs on them at all. I don’t really care about the graphic images that much. I care enough about my empty tins to try to keep one from each brand and put them up in a row near my pipe shelf, but it’s a pretty minor issue. Mainly I like to keep the tins for the information about the snuff (eg. Where in India is it from?). I don’t snuff from cans in public, and anyone who makes it inside my house better be prepared to put up with my eccentricities, or they can get their hat and coat. I do have trouble convincing some people that I don’t think snuff is really a deadly drug and I wouldn’t want to give them ammunition by showing them a tin which shows someone with a gaping wound in their jaw. If you were really concerned about it, I think covering the graphic up with shiny black electric tape would work. It’s pretty low down on my personal to-do list, though. Much more important than the logo and graphics is how airtight the tin is – and number one is how good the snuff is. Nice packaging is just the icing on the cake. Abraxas packaging screams high quality and style. F&T is great. Toque is so-so in terms of design and logos, but works for good storage. I don’t really like the Quit branding. Who the hell says you have to be trying to give up ciggies to enjoy snuff? But I see where Roderick is coming from with marketing and branding. I don’t like the military stuff with Fubar, but it’s kind of so over the top it becomes a parody. Bet the guys in Afghanistan feel roughly the same way.

So far I’ve only gotten the 6 Photo Cheeta, and it barely has any warning label on it. It also doesn’t have cool Indian landscapes. ;\ It’s still great though! I’m getting some Super Kailash in my next order so I hope I get one without that gaping wound lol. I do really like the tins though; they’re so unique. I used to collect cigar boxes, but my new obsession is snuff bottles and containers! I put some Cheeta in the Chinese bone bottle. It might not be too easy to see but that one is NSFW! ;p Putting your snuff in a container might defeat your purpose, but that’s one option. I know you know this though. ;p If anyone is wondering where I got those bottles, from left to right: Glass bottle from a store at the mall that carries clothes and random items Glass vial stolen from the high school lab back in 2001 >:) Clay bottle from the Renaissance Faire a few years ago Chinese perverted bone bottle from ebay
Not sure I’d call that “perverted,” but I’m a (reasonably) healthy man, so… :-P… Me, when I got the 200s, I immediately decanted them into rubber stopped glass jars. That much tobacco is going to last me a LONG time, so I need to make sure it’s safe. I love the different jars, though. Mine are so prosaic.
Mine are so prosaic.
Prosaic, schmosaic, so long as they are air-tight.
“and Polish? Is Poland really that big a market for Dholakia?” I can’t compare this to other countries, but I think so. One can sometimes buy Dholakia’s snuff even in shops or newsstands. And every polish internet store with snuff has Dholakias as well.

Ok so I guess it’s not really perverted, I was just being cautious. ;p Thanks, I plan on getting some really cool ones soon on ebay. I’m looking at a Japanese inside-painted glass bottle and some other goodies. Update: I just got in my snuff order! Actually I’m blown away at how fast it came. I ordered it Wed/Thurs and it came today! My Super Kailash tin has the disgusting, gaping mouth wound but only the bottom part of it since it’s cut off at the top of the tin, so it’s ok. ;p I also got the F&T Santo Domingo and wow, it’s wonderful. I can’t really describe the smell but it kinda reminds me of a certain cologne my dad used. Edit: The Super Kailash does have the landscapes.
Zombie thread.
I’m reporting, 10 years after OP, Kailash 45g still has this grotesque image on the side.
