Introducing the Tripletech Snuff Box. The latest and greatest snuffbox creation by Patrick Collins. First there was the “Onefortheroad” single snuff box. Then the “Truedouble” double compartment snuff box. And now, the “Tripletech” snuff box! This is the ultimate snuff box! Tripletech: perfect for the three techniques that most of us snuffers use when snuffing. All with one snuff box. Pinch, Pour, Spoon
PINCH: Would you like a pinch? Just slide open the upper lid and enjoy a pinch of snuff What’s that hole on the left?
POUR: Prefer to take your snuff from the back of the hand or off the table? Slide the compact side edge open to reveal the hole that leads to the snuff storage area and pour some out. Hey, there’s a hole on the other side too?
It’s a snuff spoon! SPOON: Do you like to use a snuff spoon? Slide the side edge the opposite direction to reveal the snuff spoon storage well. Take out the beautiful hand carved snuff spoon. Slide open the upper snuff compartment lid and scoop up some snuff.

More about the Tripletech. Why do I love these boxes so much? Versatility! Dirty Hands?–My favorite and usual way of snuffing is the pinch method. But all too often my hands are too dirty to put in my snuff. I’m always working on the cars, fixing equipment and tools, filling something with gas, painting, mixing cement or mortar, remodeling someone’s nasty bathroom (yuck), building a deck with chemically treated wood, etc. What now? Well, the back of my hand doesn’t look bad. Pour a nice line on the back of my hand, a quick sniff, and I’m back working on whatever I was doing. What if I’m up to my elbows in grease and such and the back of my hand is no better than my fingers? Looks like it’s time for the spoon. Sharing?–What about when I’m out on the town sitting in the local drinking establishment. I pull out my snuff box, enjoy a pinch of snuff, and the next thing you know a stranger is asking about it and wants to try some. I don’t think I’m a germaphobe but I might not want this strangers dirty fingers in my snuff. Is he the guy that’s been coughing and sneezing in his hand all night? Is he the guy that walked right past the sink on the way out of the bathroom? Later on is he going to tell me about his job at chemlawn, terminix, or the sewage treatment plant? If I let a bunch of strangers put their fingers in my snuff box and I end up sick as a dog in a day or two I know I’m going to look back on this moment. No worries. I just put out my hand and show them the various ways you can put snuff on the back of your hand. Then just pour some onto their hand and you’ve made a new friend. Often with watery bloodshot eyes. LOL. Good to the Last Pinch–Another bonus. Ever notice when your snuff box is almost empty it becomes quite a challenge to get at the last few pinches. Sometimes I just add more. If I want a new snuff in there many times I end up pouring the last of it in the garbage. With these snuff boxes you can switch to the back of the hand method and pour out every last bit of snuff. When I first made them I thought they seemed pretty cool. A true one of a kind snuff box. As it turned out it’s become a must have item for me.
sigh Between you & Roderick, just when I think I have enough snuff and or boxes…BAM! something new. Great idea,I’ll pick one up next order. Now how about something with springs or a catapult/trebuchet setup so we can sling the snuff at that guy?
I received my Tripletech box a couple of days ago and it is already indispensable - as onefortheroad says, it’s beauty (apart from the superb craftmanship) is in its versatility. A good size to carry around with you, no leaks, easy to refill, easy to take or share a pinch, whatever your chosen method. I thought the double was the ultimate, but well, this is the new King of Snuff Boxes for me. This is a marvellous box, Patrick, and I thank you for continuing innovation in snuff box manufacturing and for sharing the results with us. I wait with bated breath as to what wonder you will make next.
toffeenose said it better then I ever would have. Everything she said is 100% correct, its a wonderful, fantastic, awesome, marvelous, and just simply a very nice snuff box. My others boxes are jealous because I’m mostly taking triple tech out with me now. I’m sure glad I bought this box, its for sure my favorite as of now and I have quite a few! {the hand craved snuff spoon is nice too} hell, all I can say is I love everything about this snuff box!
I guess the super quad box is next.
I’ll be treating myself to one for my birthday @Tom502 “The Superfecta” ?Lol
I’ve been using the Padauk Tripletech for about a week now. This is my first snuffbox as I have only been snuffing for about 5 months. I must say, this box is amazing. It is very enjoyable to pull out the box, remove the hand-carved snuff spoon, open the snuff compartment, and lay a nice spoonful of snuff on the back of my hand. If you need to be a bit more discreet, the tap-out method works very well with a variety of snuff grinds from toasts to NTSU to Ozona President. Pinching works great too with a decently sized snuff compartment (holds 4-5 grams easily). I was a bit worried about the wood smell imparting an odor into the snuff, but I have not noticed any tainting at all. Thank you for this creation Patrick! It is sure to be a fixture in my pocket into the foreseeable future. I am taking a spoonful of Toque Lime Toast now to celebrate such a great snuff box.
Just got mine in the mail from tom at nicotine rush and I have to say, it is amazing. That along with my first toque(SPANISH GEM) holy SH*T this stuff is superb. I cannot really tell you how perfect that combination is. The box is just amazing, I am looking forward for tomorrow and packing that thing full of Spanish gem and having the best day of my life. I don’t know why the hell I waited so long to get one of these boxes from Patrick Collins Or the Toque line up. Patrick and Roderick you men are simply snuff gods. nothing more for me to say than that
I ordered mine last wednesday, however I don’t get to open it until Christmas! I guess I can wait. Ive got 100g of Dholakia black to fill it with!
Hi, After a long absence from the forum (health problems, just back from hospital) I found your topic on the Tripletech Snuff Box. I have a bunch of the single ones and love them above all other (except maybe the two I got from Drechselshop - Germany). I don’t seem to find any info on how to order them, can I from you directly or is there a shop like Snuffstore UK where I can order them (they don’t seem to have any for the moment)? You really make very beautiful and good working snuff boxes! have a nice day, Ron from Belgium
Nicotine Rush has them - there’s a link on the left. <–
ok, thanks! Just ordered some boxes along with some snuffs I haven’t tried yet.
snuff-belgium- Sorry to hear you’ve been in the hospital. Glad you’re out in time for x-mas. Hope you’re doing well. Enjoy your snuffboxes, snuffs, etc. I’m all out so until I make more nicotinerush is the only place to get a tripletech snuffbox.
wow! beautiful boxes
Thanks onefortheroad, I just read it here in time then. Ordered yesterday evening and received a notice that the package is already on it’s way, good service! I really enjoy your work, I’ve had lots of snuffboxes in the past 35 years but yours seem to be the best (they really seal off very well) and cheapest (for such quality) I’ve found so far. They just bolted together some disks in my back, so I’m very stiff at the moment. (I’ve had many problems with my back due to parachute accident during a mission). I even have to snuff very carefully because every time I sneeze the muscles in the back contract and hurt like hell Upside is I have lots of time at my hands. Greetings Ron
New TripleTechs are available. My apologies to those that have been waiting or sent me whispers. I’ve had a lot on my plate so it took a while to get them done. Check them out at nicotinerush.com -Patrick
I’m really stoked, waiting for mine to arrive!
Since NicotineRush won’t ship to the US after the 30th, are there any plans for distributing PC snuff boxes in the US? I love these things, and would really like to be able to grab new ones as you come up with more ideas.
I can still ship non tobacco products! They will still be available in the US
Ah, so snuffboxes and accessories are kosher, we just can’t order tobacco products? Also, if I were looking to say, send someone in the UK a large order of snuff as a gift, would that be acceptable, providing the delivery address is in the UK, or can you not take an order if either the billing or delivery address were in the US?
Just ordered one of each, the ones I have are starting to show some wear but then they are used a lot. Get some while you can I think it won’t be long before they are sold out again. still hoping that some day P. will make some for me out of ebony (the ebony snuff boxes I have keep the snuff very fresh) … don’t know if it’s possible, he says it would cost a lot of money to make and might even not be possible as some woods are hard to work with.
I can ship anywhere outside the US
WOW is all I can say just received my new cherry wood tripletech box. I can see this box making me put my zebra wood box on the shelf! Love it, I have always been a cherry wood fan and this is a work of art! Looks like it will hold a day or more of snuff in it. I hope it will last me a long time. If you guys havent got one, get one you will not regret it.
I got mine in today. I love this box, especially because I use all three methods from time to time. it is a nice box and I have been showing it off all day, lol.
I really like my boxes, got the double compartment model in oak and the tripletech in teak. I can’t carry them around with me, big disappointment, because of that stuff they call sweat. I get drenched on a daily basis and the boxes tend to swell. Maybe they will fair better in the winter.
Thats good to know because during the summer my workplace gets very hot. To tell you the truth all I have been doing with it staring at it! lol It is really nice and I like that it comes with a spoon too.
Now this question is going to sound amateur, but is there a preferred place to keep your snuffbox throughout the day? I just put mine in my pants pocket.
It SHOULD go in your vest pocket dammit. I’m looking for a belt clip pouch or the likes.
Well I’m not a vest kinda guy so that won’t happen, lol. I belt clip would be nice though.
I have a Tripletech in cherry but want to buy one in Mahogany, Padauk, and Oak but none availble from Nicotine Rush. Patrick can you tell me when there will be more availble and from who if Nicotine Rush is closing down? Can I buy direct from you?
I wonder, do you do custom type work for individuals, Patrick? I mean if someone wanted a Double Compartment or Triple tech in one of the woods that the single ones are made from? Even if it costs more, I’d definitely consider purchasing a “custom” one.
Patrick has mentioned to me that more may be available near the end of October. If he makes them, hopefully I’ll have them.
Glad to hear you like your tripletechs. As hooked said if you leave your snuffbox in your pocket on hot sweaty days the wood will tend to swell and become difficult to open. I don’t carry a wallet and usually have a stack of id’s, credit cards, cash and receipts in my pocket. On days that my money and receipts are damp when I pull them out of my pocket I know it’s not the best conditions for the snuffbox. And there were a few days this summer that the humidity was near 100%. My snuffbox didn’t seem too happy in those conditions. I’ve also noticed it can become difficult to open in extreme cold when I’m out all night shoveling and blowing snow. Not sure if it’s caused more by the cold or the damp clothes. Sometimes I find myself just holding the snuffbox for a long time while watching TV or something and have noticed that the heat and humidity from my hand will make the box feel harder to open. In any case, be careful if your lids seem stiff. Let the box breathe for a while. As the snuffbox returns to normal temperature/humidity so should the function of the lids. @snufkin-I think nicrush will continue to stock them for now. Maybe on the snuffgear site? Can’t say for sure. I do sell them direct once in a while. Feel free to give a whisper or contact me at thewoodensnuffbox at sbcglobal dot net. @matsnuffs- I don’t offer any one off custom stuff at this time. It’s hard to get the time to do these at all and I wouldn’t want to have people waiting around for specific orders to be completed. I would however love to hear people’s ideas of what they would like. I can’t guarantee it will happen but we’ll see. It looks more like the end of November before I’ll have new boxes ready. Thanks again everyone for your support. Patrick
Good to hear Patrick, I love my Triple Tech box and want to get some more in different woods
Just ordered a bunch!
A limited number of PC boxes are now available on SnuffGear
Aah, Fall is in the air! I’m an air conditioning contractor by trade, and even though I make most of my living from HOT weather, I’m very appreciative of the cooler days we are experiencing now. With that I pulled out my two PC boxes and ready to put em back to work. I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to tote snuff in public with me, and with a second look, the TripleTech is definitely the solution with the most class.
New Tripletechs are finally finished. Thanks for your patience to those that have been waiting. They will be available at snuffgear.com in a few days. walnut mahogany padauk teak oak zebrawood
If only I had enough money… And I like the new Zebrawood one, it’s quite unique. Also, the mosaics you add for decoration are cute, but they don’t let you see all the wood, though I guess lots of people prefer the boxes with them. Oh, and one made of heartwood with all those beautiful (and hypnotic) rings (and no added things, only the wood patterns) would be perfect (at least for my taste), specially if it was made of ebony , holy wood, norway spruce wood, padauk or mahogany. I don’t think dislike brown, but they look more “special” if they’re made of wood with a less stereotypical colour. Well, just my ramblings. Anyways, you’re great @onefortheroad . I don’t need to see your snuffboxes in person to know you’re a really good artisan, and the design of your tripletechs is impressive.
Oh my sweet goodness! I’m going to snatch up a handsome padauk Tripletech ASAP. Should be next week. Thanks for your hard work, @onefortheroad !
This thread convinced me – when I start lobbying for my Christmas snuff box, Tripletech is going to be my choice. What beautiful work! Can’t wait to get my fingers and spoon into one.
Hopefully, I’ll have them here by Monday afternoon. Should be up on site by the evening. Tom
Hopefully Tom I’ll come back by soon and snag another. I’m really looking forward to the nice Cherry Tripletech that’s already on its way. That is great service! Thanks so much.
The new batch of Triple Techs are now available on SnuffGear and I have to say, they are absolutely the best work from Patrick to date. EXCELLENT! The pictures do not come close to capturing their superb quality. NICE job Patrick!
Hoody hoo! You can sure as heck bet that I’ll be grabbing another handsome padauk. MmMm!
I just now realized my Triple tech that was sold to me as a teak(last one he had left) is really a walnut. I was just about to order the walnut when I noticed it looked almost identical to the one I already have, then I looked at the teak and mine was way too dark to be teak. Good thing too because I find the teak box to be the least appealing of the bunch.
My collection of PC boxes has just increased by two. I’m up to 6 now, once the new ones arrive. I’m sick for these boxes.
@n9inch: Yes, there was a little confusion there a while back. Glad all is good.
INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: I can no longer accept Master Card as a payment option for international orders. MC is now requiring 1000.00 per year, (for international orders). Something I can’t afford. Paypal is available for non tobacco orders. If you wish to use paypal, please contact me for details. Tom
@n9inch: Your box is very likely teak, as this is the first time I made any tripletechs in walnut. I think the confusion is because I used a different inlay. I’ve attached a photo (grainy phone pic) so we can see the progression of woods/inlays that I’ve used on the tripletechs. The inlay on the new walnuts was the inlay on the teak last time, and is the same inlay on the original oaks. The inlay on the original mahoganys was then used on the padauk last time and is now on the new teak boxes. The new teaks look lighter than the last ones because, well, it’s a different piece of wood, from a different tree, and likely a different forest. The last ones were darker and had a lot of dark streaks in the wood. You’ll also notice the new mahoganys have a nice orange hue compared to past mahogany used. Again, just a different piece of wood. The hardwood supplier explained to me one day that there are about 140 varieties of mahogany. I have 4 different mahogany’s on hand right now. I try to keep changing things up with the woods and inlays. Everyone has different preferences. Just like snuff. What I love, another may hate. Some want extravagant, others insist on simple, basic and clean. Another thing to note is that woods will darken with time. And wood with clear coats will yellow with age. I’ve also noticed that the boxes become buffed and polished in your pocket the longer they get used. I have been carrying the same teak tripletech nearly every day since June. This box is so smooth and glassy it’s hard to believe that it was finished the same way and at the same time as my boxes that haven’t been used as much. Thanks again everyone. I do hope you love your tripletechs as much as I do.
Thanks Patrick for filling us in, its good to know what box I actually have, though its beautiful nonetheless.
Seeing the different inlays here makes me curious as to which one will show up in my mailbox.
@rhs - my last post may have been confusing. I’ll try to clarify. The top row is a pic of the four original tripletech types that were available (cherry, oak, padauk, and mahogany). These are all gone. When they were gone I made the “second generation” tripletechs as shown in the second row. (cherry, oak, padauk, and teak) These are all gone with the exception of a couple cherry. Now we have the “third gen.” tripletechs as shown in the bottom row. There are also oak 3rd gen not pictured in the bottom row. They are just like the oak in the second row. So available presently we have oak, padauk, mahogany, teak, walnut and zebrawood, as pictured in the bottom row. So as of now, for example, if you want or ordered a padauk, it will be the one on the bottom row since the paduaks shown on the top and middle rows are long gone. As you may know Tom does a darn good job with his sites. If you order a snuffbox you should expect to get the one shown in the picture at the time you place the order. I think I’m making Tom nuts by changing up the woods and inlays all the time since he has to take all new photos for his site everytime I make new stuff. But I think it’s a small price to pay to keep new variations coming. Hope this helps.
@onefortheroad - Thanks a bunch for a prompt and clarifying update!
My beautiful cherry wood tripletech came yesterday and I couldn’t be happier!
Lucky dog, Dave! I’m hoping to have my padauk beauty waiting for me on Friday.
I like the two on the right. If anyone is completely insane or my mom is reading this forum for some reason the two on the right would make a great christmas gift. Very pretty boxes (something I don’t get to say enough of.)
Does anyone know where you can find these Tripletech boxes these days? I’d like to get another one.
I’m sure hoping there is a re-release too! I’d definitely be in for a few.
Gah, you guys got me all excited by reviving this thread.
Has anybody tried any of the wooden snuff boxes they currently stock at mrsnuff, like the Heartwood Padau. If anybody has one I was wondering if they are airtight, close securely something that I can leave in my pocket? The two snuff boxes I have at the moment are 18 and 19 century antiques which are great although theres no way i’d chuck one of them in my pocket due to the cost.
@Aamon I have one and use it regularly. They work great for me, though I have only used them for toasts/scotches and oil moistened snuffs. The only complaint I have is that with the teak boxes, if you lose it and find it again a month or two later, all the snuff inside will smell like teak lol. But that only happens if the same snuff sits in there for weeks on end.
Wish I’d bought more of the Patrick Collins’ boxes while he was still making them. Even if you don’t use them all, they are beautiful little things. Perfect for Dholakia White or HDT.
@Aamon You can get them here http://www.heartwood.com/boxes/secret-box-sizes/2-quot-x-2-quot-flat-box.html. I use Paragon Wax [You can use bee wax] on my boxes inside and out twice a year. It seals the wood and lubes the sliding lid, keeps them from swelling due to too much humidity and keeps them shiny.
I use plenty of the 2x2 but I also have deeper and wider ones I use. They have all sizes and in different woods. And they ship from the USA so you don’t have to wait weeks.
@basement_shaman yeah I’m looking for a couple I can take out with me all day with enough room easily for a days supply. I live in Australia I typically have to wait around 2 weeks for UK and around 3 from USA, its a bit of a pain since I’m waiting for my last order from USA, going on 4 weeks, only due to it being stopped at customs for tax and after paying it seems like Australia post possibly lost it. Does the Paragon wax have a scent to it? as in is it fine to keep snuff in it for a while if I’m using other snuff boxes without the Paragon wax contaminating the scent?
@Aamon I never detected any odor. I use the small 2x2 although my snuff habit may not be like yours. If your a big pincher a longer box may work better. I don’t have a problem with them my fat thumb and fingers fit fine they travel well in the pocket and the thin profile, don’t look like your carting around a bar of soap like those larger deeper boxes. I wear a leather zippo lighter holder with a metal button snap that keep it secure and they fit in them quite well.
I use my antique boxes often I just don’t go near water with them or do anything too physical. They seen plenty of use. My fine silver box, I carry in a soft cotton drawstring bag so my keys or other pocket clutter don’t scratch it.
@basement_shaman that’s a nice set up, so that’s just a zippo case? If so I need to get one. I had a thought about the Paragon wax, could I apply it to the inside lid of a Wilsons of Sharrow tin to stave off rust from forming on the lids, or would this just fall back down into the snuff?
@Aamon I never use it on metal. but if you want to, try it. I would suggest you heat it up first in a toaster oven ,This will open up any pores in the metal and help hold the wax better. Just apply wax with a Q tip when it comes out of the oven. I have a feeling that wax on metal may take several days to get dry.
If it rust protection you’re after, I would use clear nail polish or a spray paint.
Hi, does any one know where to get these now a days ?
http://woodensnuffbox.com/ Site been down for some time
Does anyone know if these boxes are currently for sale anywhere?
Not sure about those specific boxes but here are some I use from Heartwood Creations: Choose from 15 sizes – Heartwood
