Snuff is the only product where I’ve seen this happen. You get a new snuff say Dholakia Sparrow Cool 1st try “what is that stench” 2nd try " I can"t get this disgusting smell out of my nose" day 3 " maybe it’s not so bad" day 4 " where did I put that Sparrow I could really go for some" This is an extreme case but I’ve seen varying degrees of this in my short experience with snuff, that I’ve never experienced with another product.
Hm, it was a bit like this when I started smoking cigarettes. Maybe the brain switches to like-mode as soon as it notices there is nicotine in it? :-? However, there’s something more about snuff I think, the way more and more of the aroma is discovered over time, but still… many or most things one can enjoy about tobacco have to be aquired with some effort.
I’ve done that a few times also but sometimes I’ve binned it after, so a sort of double reversal? Then sometimes I carried out a bin retrieval, looped through the intial proceedure and then bined it again making sure to emppty it out of the tin this time. Haven’t so far tried to retrieve that. Own up, who has? Confess…
Maybe it’s just my lack of patience, I just try to find a happy home for a snuff that rubs me the wrong way.
one dose of Dholakia Plum cake will turn any don’t like snuff into plum snuff. except D rose chocolate nothing can tone that down :-t
@otherwheres, I think you might have some thing, the brain wants Nicotene, the smell is associated with N, so now the brain likes the smell. In the case of Sparrow it’s not quite there yet but it’s getting there.
although sparrow is a plain snuff i can get a deep sweat musk from it from the first time (this is the second day i pinch it)
Yes, Sparrow is like that. I hated it the first time I tried it. What I did was empty the 25g “tin” onto a paper plate and just let it sit there for about a day, stirring occasionally. That weird musty smell doesn’t ever go away but it mellows enough to let the tobacco come thru. Some of these just need to breathe a little. Have patience. Who knows what conditions these things were kept in for who knows how long (or short). So Sparrow, I almost tossed now I’m on my third re-order. Recently I received FUBAR toasted, which is not a toast at all imo, and it was literally wet with ammonia. Well, out onto a paper plate it went and sat for about a day…didn’t magically turn into a toast, but it is something I really really like. My point with regards to the FUBAR toast, is that it’s easy to get irritated, disappointed, put off, or whatever initially, but sometimes the snuff just needs to develop. I think it has to do with perception or anticipation: I had high hopes for FUBAR toast cuz I love toasts, especially HDT. When it didn’t quite work out that way, I admit it was a little disappointing, but ultimately found it was something nice in a different way. Conversely, some just smell like vomit initially and stay like that. Just give those away. One mans garbage is another mans treasure, right?
@Chicago_CA Toque Almond Toast is excellent.
Wow! Good thread necro work there buddy =D> I hated my first pinch of Berwick Brown, tried it again a few days later and found it tolerable, but it wasn’t exactly winning me over. Now it’s my No1 snuff. I couldn’t imagine being a snuff user and not having a stash of Berwick Brown in my array. It’s magnificent! They haven’t all worked out that way though. Some have been thrown out, but many have been recycled - mixed together with other snuffs I couldn’t get along with, until I generated a blend that’s better than all it’s constituent parts. I have three “reject” blends, amounting to about 650g of snuff. Show me any other product you can recycle like that!
