The joy of Vitamin N

Happily going about my business when I started to feel slightly sick. I was on a train going to a meeting. I got off at the next stop and went home. At that point the vomiting, coughing and wheezing started to suggest something distinclty unpleasant - my Doctor (who would not let me go to his office) diagnosed Swine Flu. That was 8 weeks ago and I am going back to work on Monday. It has been - to say the least - a bad time. The most unpleasant part was a secondary sinus infection that completeley closed my nose off. No snuff entered my enormous hooter for several weeks. That was a bad, bad time. I had my first pinch today since God knows when and buzzed like a teenager on his first dip. Moral: have the jab.

I guess the fact that you can snuff again means you are recovering well? I sure hope so, do take are~

Nigel, I’m so pleased you came through. That must have been a really bad experience.

Sorry to hear about your 'flu, snuffster, but glad that you’re on the mend and snuffing again. Look after yourself, mate.

8 weeks? That is the epitome of brutal! What carried you during that time with out snuff?

It’s fortunate that there are several alternatives to smoking other than snuff…I assume you took advantage of one of those?..Glad you are back to good health!! The Wiz!

Thanks so much for the kind comments guys. Im on the mend and with any luck back at work next week. The problem was that I had a real breathing issue - like an ongoing asthma attack, but the doc finally gave me some stuff that knocked it on the head. Wiz; I love a dip or chew so survived as one must! Cheers folks Nigel

snuff helped with my last flu that sucker sucked. Glad you’re feeling better and as importantly able to snuff again (I was mostly off the snuff for a while too from my flu I hate when that happens).

Glad you’re feeling better Snuffster, I don’t think I could go 8 weeks without snuff. Stefan

Thanks guys, 'preciate it. The snuff seems even nicer after that long layoff and as I said I got the kind of buzz that you got when you tried your first smoke or whatever, sadly its worn off now!

Interesting fact! This could just be probability and statistics at work, or it could be true. Since I have started snuffing, I have not gotten sick once! It could be that I have moved out of my house and into an apartment or me being at college, but usually I always get sick by this time. I wish I could do a double blind test to see if the snuff is helping in some way!

My feeling is that it does. obviously I have just had swine flu so it’s not a miracle substance but I do think that snuff in the nose possibly creates an environment that is not condusive to bacteria multiplying. Its been said so many times by different people - and is mentioned in some of the old snuff literature - that there could well be something to it. Swine flu not withstanding, I rarely if ever catch the common cold. Double blind testing would certainly be interesting but I can’t imagine anyone getting funding to carry out. If the results were favourable ‘they’ would probably supress the findings.

Thanks Roderick, much better now. Same for me on those conditions. If we could advertise on TV I firmly believe there would eventually be a national switch to snuff.

Sounds like that sickness came on very fast! The H1N1 must be potent–I can see why parents are so confused when one minute a child is fine and running around and the next he’s laying on a couch blowing chunks—sounds very bad, glad you beat it Snuffster. I do my best to take no medicine at all on a daily basis but last year I kept a bottle of Jagermeister in the basement freezer and a spoon tucked up in the rafters.Every night before bed, I’d go down and take 2 tablespoons.Maybe something can be said for your attitude and whether you get sick or not as well. Maybe it was the MULTIPLE HERBS in the Jager or maybe the snuff as you say, but I didn’t so much as catch a cold! (As a side observation: When I quit smoking and went full time snuffing, the hair in my nose seemed to grow back a bit. I’m being totally serious. Aren’t those hairs job to stop any incoming virus/bacteria as best they can before they enter. Maybe between the nasal passage being moist and hair-lined and the snuff being present, it cuts down on chance of infection?. Very un-scientific, but just my observation.)

No doc either, but I´ve witnessed basically just the same thing at any snuffer I know, and there are quite some around where I live, thankfully. I think there´s a connection with the much higher rate of nose blowing. Bacteria just can´t settle and multiply in your nose that easily, if you keep it moist and clean by taking snuff several times throughout the day. Of course, it´s not of much use if you get the cold by bacteria entering and settling in your mouth or even your eye surface, but still, snuff´s good in preventing colds I´m pretty sure of. Who knows, the Hedges L260 could even kill the bacteria, as strong as it is.

I had swine flu too a couple of weeks ago, thankfully mine was mild, but I went on a “Hedges Diet” and it kept me clear and functioning. It was better than any decongestant or cough mixture going IMO. Stefan

Bart - my brother swears by Jagermeister as a cold remedy. Anyway, I’ve noticed that since I started snuffing/snussing 3-4 months ago, my youngest son (now 16 months) has had 2 colds, complete with runny nose and croupy coughing fits, and my wife has had one near brush with bronchitis due to her asthma, but the worst I have noticed so far is a little stuffiness in my nose and some mild sneezing/coughing. This is the longest I’ve gone without a cold since our first child was born and I had to pretty much stop my occasional cigar. Maybe it doesn’t completely stop me from getting a cold, but for me it seems to minimize the effects and shorten the duration.

Thanks for all the kind commemts. Swineflu should be just a fairly mild illness but I was unlucky in getting two secondary infections one after the other. I got a serious injury some years ago that required several years of morphine use so I also theorise that that has probably depressed my immune system a bit. There are so many snuffers that say it has stopped the getting colds that, in my view, it must point towards snuffing giving some benefit. I think nose blowing and L260 would actually help.

Glad you’re doing better snuffster. That swine flu thing sounds horrible. I agree, if any snuff kills germs it’s L260.

I would certainly agree with treatneggy about it limiting the duration of a cold, I was sick a while ago and hadn’t been snuffing regularly so with my stuffed up nose I hadn’t snuffed in 3 weeks, I took a day with McCrystals O&G and the cold MIRACULOUSLY disappeared the next day. The whole house was still sick. the first sniff I could breath, after about 2 weeks of no air entering my nose it was a relieving feeling. Snuff is medicine.
