I have just spent an evening with this snuff and wondered to myself whether anyone does not like this Toque offering? I say this because I just can’t fault it. It’s like velvet, with just the right proportion of whisky, oak, vanilla and honey - never cloying, just very relaxing and easy on the nose. It also got me interested in just how you can capture this essence so well. Is the tobacco infused with whisky and honey prior to grinding, or is it added afterwards? I am assuming the vanilla, biscuity, oak flavours come from the process of toasting the tobacco. It must be a very pleasurable job making snuff like this - perhaps one day I will have a go.
I am now inspired to dig out my W&H tin.
I don’t like it. To begin with I loved it and bought a bulk amount then just went off the stuff. I would still categorise it as an extremely well put together snuff though, despite my contrary palette.
I like Toque W&H very much. I was using some just yesterday and thinking what a good snuff it is. I’m sure it will become one that I re-order. I also have Toque Toast and Marmalade, and Bourbon, which I also like. The issue I am having with ALL snuffs is that I find the full, true flavors are best appreciated out of doors but the high temp and humidity in Florida seems to ‘put a damper’ on my olfactory sensors. Inside my air-conditioned ( de-humidified house ), and work environment, many snuffs loose their scent and it’s frustrating. Things may be better in late Fall and Winter (if you can call 70-80 F @ 50-60% humidity Winter).
I like bourbon better. I got a sample of if from Nicotine rush and liked it. I’ll probably order some to have though as the sample is now gone.
I mixed my Toque Whiskey and Honey with the Dholakia Brandy and Maple and found myself a winner. Might get you interested again snuffster.
Toast & Marmalade gets top spot from Toque in my nose. W&H is very nice as well, just not quite as good.
Toast and Marmalade has just a bit of an edge with me over the W&H, but it’s just a slight edge. I love them both.
Yea I really like both W&H and Toast and Marmalade. I also like the bourbon but to me the name is unfortunate. To me the bourbon is really close to an American Scotch (and a great intro into the Scotch snuffs IMO). I think when people order it they are expecting something along the lines of the W&H. A name like “Scottish Plain” might more accurately guide their expectations.
yeah you re right Leman W&H is nice but Toast and Marmelade is so much better. And i agree with you Sniffs i think Bourbon is similar to the American Scotches.
I find the Bourbon similar to High Dry Toast, the Marmalade better than the Whiskey and Honey, and that American Scotch has nothing to do with scotch the liquor.
Now if someone could make a snuff that smelled like Laphroaig I think I’d cover my body with it.
“Now if someone could make a snuff that smelled like Laphroaig I think I’d cover my body with it.” Rather like the unusual funeral arrangements of famous snuffer Margaret Thompson, whose will requested that she be buried with ‘such a quantity of the best Scotch snuff (in which I have always had the greatest delight) as will cover my deceased body’. Her request was granted.
W&H is in my all-time top three snuffs - it’s a winner on it’s own, and mixed with F&T HDT it is superb. I love T&M & Bourbon as well, but the subtlety and juxtaposition of the flavours of W&H is what gives it the edge over those two for me.
@ wickedkitchen: "Now if someone could make a snuff that smelled like Laphroaig I think I’d cover my body with it. " LMAO… OK, Cartman, I think you’ve had enough.
I love the Whiskey & Honey when the mood takes me i think its the honey that gives the velvety softness to this snuff and i would love a Toque Honey snuff without the whiskey.
Toque Honey would be great. I love the Whiskey & Honey. I have some 90g of it. It’s a wonderful soft toast. One that I enjoy when drinking a craft beer or some Apfel schnapps.
It’s one of my least favourite snuffs at the moment, though that’s not to say I don’t like it (F&T’s Kendal Brown is the only snuff I’ve got that I can’t stand). The Toast and Marmalade is much, much more to my tastes.
It’s funny how everyone’s tastes vary. The Toast and Marmalade is quite good, but a lot of citrus snuffs can develop a wet dog aroma for me. The honey in Whisky and Honey is so natural and convincing for me compared with the Samuel Gawith Honey and Wilsons Honey Menthol. I like the Bourbon as well, but being a non meat eater, sometimes the initial smokey bacon smell can be a bit off putting.
I love how this one tastes, but it never fails to clog me up. Which is weird, because with other Toque snuffs I can just go on and on, shovel down, shovel up.
