I have made two orders of snuff so far, the first being a trial order of toque apricot and McChrystals mild lemon. I found that I liked them both, but could not use the lemon all day, although I did enjoy it. The apricot however, I flew through and thoroughly enjoyed. After looking through the forums and also on mr snuff, I ended up ordering toque violet, coke, and xmas pudding, along with WoS gold label and lemon toast, and lastly Bernard’s magic moments. The violet, Coke, and pudding I’m still not sure about, although I have enjoyed the other three. However, I have found that I cannot use most of these snuffs as an all day snuff, with the exceptions being both WoS I ordered. I was wondering if you all had suggestions for what could be in my third order for something that I could use all day. I thought about getting Viking dark, as that seems to be a common one recommended on here. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Viking Blonde, if you like the Gold Label. Also, try WoS Tom Buck, Best SP, SP100 and Toque SP Extra. If you are enjoying the Lemon Toast, then try the other WoS toasts, and Fribourg and Treyer High Dry Toast. Toque also do plenty of toasts.
Abraxas St. Casura - So easy to use and can be used all day.
Why is preventing all-day use? Is it the scent, grind or something else? I have found that in Toque the one thus far that I can take all day is their SP Extra. While I love and thus ordered 150g bags of Absinthe and Apricot along with 25g tins of Original, at present it’s the SP Extra that works best. Do take some time and rotate your snuffs a bit- another contributor noted that at first they were having a difficult time with some finer snuffs (which my Toques seem to be) but after time passed they found they were easier to take. Sometimes it seems your nose must become accustomed to the cut/scent/brand. I have found that my preferences and even ability to stick to one snuff changes. Presently my desire to take Apricot all day has waned and I am on the SP Extra as the work day and Absinthe at home. But alas this may well change by the time I read my next post.
I would say that the scents themselves inhibit all day use. The scent of violet for example seems to come on very strong, and then the scent overstays its welcome, so to speak. The coke I can use a few times in a row, but after using for an hour or two (i usually take a few pinches an hour) it also becomes overbearing, so I try to just have a few pinches of that a day, and not in a row. Pudding is the same way. I don’t have an issue taking any of them, surprisingly, even though I’m very new to snuff itself. It just seems like the scents are a turn off. I have noticed that with all three toque tins, when i got them they were a little different than the apricot, in the sense that they seem to be a little more moist, and the smell just from straight opening the tins is a lot stronger. It may just be that they are more fresh or something, but I have noticed that difference.
There are several that I could take all day, but I usually carry at least 2 on me all day. ( usually a menthol and a non-menthol.) Funny, with cigarettes it was a pack a day of Camels for 30 years. Never anything else. With snuff I can’t ever just carry one kind!
Why would you want to snuff the same snuff all day?
I usually take 2 with me in the morning, but I go to class every morning from 8 till about noon, then straight to work till about 9 at night, so its not that I want to, but I can’t very well bring all my tins with me all day long, and I don’t get home to swap them out for 12 hours once I leave
Whatever I am in the mood for. It varies.
You can’t beat a toast for an all day snuff. F&T HDT, WOS 22, and Toque Nat Toast. That’s about the extent of my variety. I have a box full of Sps. Fruits, Whites Coffees and flavored toasts, every once in a while, I pull them out and try a few, then fill the carry tin with Toast and I’m good for a while.
I would echo an SP, such as WoS Best SP / Tom Buck etc, Toque Original / SP Extra or J&H Wilsons SP No.1 / Top Mill.
For me, the all-day snuff is a smokey American scotch. I know. I’m weird.
I never do a snuff all day, always have at least three on the go. That said the nearest I’ve came recently is toque coltsfoot, going through a bit of a phase with this one.
Viking Dark, & F&T HDT are my daily go to selections.
looks like my next order is going to be rather large… oh well i can’t complain, more snuff for me
For me the all-day snuff is something fine, dry and plain, usually an Indian White, lately I’ve been using a lot of Madras too and sometimes I do it with toasts.
For me any top quality SP is an all day pleasure…
Viking Dark, & F&T HDT are my daily go to selections.
Same here. This pair will always deliver.
Just got to try some Viking dark from a friend, will definitely be ordering some of it!
SWS Lundy Foot, Abraxas St Casura, Touqe Quit, Viking dark, 41 photo White elephant. My top 5 all day snuffs in no particular order
6 Photo Cheeta, Dholakia Sparrow, Viking Dark, Viking Blonde and Bernard Gekachelter Virginie seem to have become my daily snuffs. F&T HDT is a good daily snuff too.
I would recommend gold label but I see that that is where the thread started, so stick with that. and another vote for Viking dark.
Great suggestions! Just got Viking dark, HDT, and a few different sp’s. I’m in love!
Sir Walter Scott’s Quiver
I used to carry around a bunch of snuff, but after getting searched in a courthouse, there was an embarrassing amount of tobacco products in every pocket. So, I just decided to pick one. Not really one particular flavor and brand. But a mixture of all the lemons and limes I have. I think It started with Temptation champagne cola mixed with toque cola and some tiger cola…so I added some lemons and some limes because something was tasting too perfumey. Pretty much planned on adding all the lemons and limes at different ratios so everyday its just a little different. Until, I find the best mix, er one that overpowers them all like some of the fruity ones have the power to do. I really liked having a sp mix on me, but I may just start adding it to the mix, plus I’ve already added some St. Casuras to help take bigger snorts, but would possibly consider using it by itself all day. Its almost wrong feeling to mix it. With that being said, I never snort one kind all day. I like sandalwood in the mornings and patchouli with my kava tea. Sometimes I do a snort of a fruit mix in the evening. As well as a indian white for late at night. But they all stay at home. With so many flavors and choices, it would be hard to pick one for all day, every day.
I carry 4 or 5 round with me. I always considered my “all-day” snuff to be an SP variety - preferably S’Nuff - but what I have found is that I simply can’t go anywhere without sticking FC Bayern in a pocket. If I don’t have this snuff with me, I do actually feel bereft
I carry Toque SPextra …Spanish Gem… and COKE all day but when I’m home…it’s abraxas fire Drac…or Tom Buck or maybe a little menthol…or or or…too many choices …God I love snuff!!!
Lately (as mentioned in another thread), I’ve been carrying a few different snuff’s with me… however, will gladly use anyone of them all day if I had to… WoS Royal George, WoS Crumbs of Comfort, Honey Bee, and Bernard’s Aecht Alt.
Since I started snuffing not a day goes by without at least some Wilson’s Of Sharrow Best SP. Out and about for ease and speed I take a bullet containing Viking Blonde. I find the SP leaks out of the bullet and the method I use to take SP looks a bit weird and is not for public consumption.
Always a schmalzler, and to counter, something like sp. Third one is the surprise factor. No more fits my pockets without making it uncomfortable
ive only been using snuff a short time, and have limited experience of whats out there, but the one im going for regularly is wilson of sharrows camphor and mild. ill be ordering a large tin of this when i finish my current one. i love it.
I use w.e. Garret and sons sweet mild daily. What other types are similar? I hear a lot of people having Toast, and Sp. What are those comparable to?
I do W.E. Garrett daily as well, I often mix it half and half with stuff because it is what I started on and it’s local. Plus it goes really good with blueberry menthol or coffee. I think it helps carry the scent up personally. Plus I like the dry shit
SP in its various incarnations for me.
Here are just a few I could do on their own all day … Jaxons SP Premium Toque Berwick Brown WoS Best Dark/Brunswick Viking Dark/Brown/Blonde (NOTE: The Vikings do well with a little GH cherry or Dry Orange mixed in too) GH Ambasador F&T Santa Domingo M&W Jocks Choice SG Elmos Reserve or Kendal Brown
Thank you all for the suggestions, I have been trying to keep ordering more, and testing all these different scents. Got two rather large packages in the mail now haha
I have hundreds of different flavours and varieties of snuff, but these days I just go for the plainest (and strongest) one–Starr. It’s the one that’s least likely to irritate my nose, it does the job, and it’s got an old-timey container to boot. Sometimes I’ll add a couple of pinches of Lundy Foot for added nicotine pleasure.
The thing about starting out snuffing is you start by ordering a bunch of different snuffs looking for the Holy Grail. After a few years you fine tune your taste some. Like me no menthols or to strong of flavors “perfumes”. I have been on this site 4 yr’s, just change my log in from “magicdust” and notice people come and go but I think everyone has gone through the same thing about there snuffs. My favorite are the dark plain simple snuffs, cans and cans of viking dark and black coffee. I have enough snuff now to last a lifetime but I can’t stop buying the next new flavor looking for that my Holy Grail of snuff…
I ordered a different coke, as well as another floral scent, to see if maybe I just didn’t like the toque ones in particular. It turns out that at least right now I’m just not into florals or cola flavored snuff. I have found however, that I love viking dark to the point where I am flying through the 25g tins, and am seriously considering the 500g from mr snuff. Other than that, the sp’s that have been recommended on here, as well as the toasts have always been exactly what I was looking for. I’m still trying to find new scents to try, but it seems like I have found the general type of snuff I like. Bow that being said, I am definitely still questing for another Holy Grail snuff to order in bulk, besides just Viking dark
since discovering viking dark a few weeks ago, it has become my out and out favourite. nothing else seems to satisfy like it.
Viking dark is a favorite for a lot of people I see. I have to take a photo of all the empty cans, it will be disturbing. Hope you stay with snuffing and the forum.
Samuel Gawith’s Black Coffee snuff takes a bashing from me these days, started out as an evening pleasure and has slowly encroached upon the rest of the day, too. I still like to pinch other scents during the day as well, to the extent that most of my collection goes to work with me in a rucksack.
From all I read about the new Sir Walter Scott’s Havana Toast Snuff, it seems to be The Holy Grail. That or, Abraxas Cafe 11. I have had neither yet. I have a big 4 that I think will be THE best snuffs to me. Cafe 11, Havana Toast, Viking Dark and, Toque Spanish Gem. The only one I am a little unsure about is Spanish Gem. I will be order all but, Cafe 11 on my next order. I hope they will not disappoint. I would love to order Cafe 11 but, damn. $1 a gram is a lot. I’m sure it’s worth it though just can’t get it right now.
